WOW. After reading the reviews on this plane here and seeing one fly at our field (it only had a 60 size engine), I bought one from a fellow locally and put my Saito 91 in it. I have a small (very) field I mow at my house (farm) and have flown my Magic, Twist and Matrix there. It balanced perfectly, came with the splitter for the elevator, and after a brief taxi I thought, "Why not?!" Although my landing area requires some skil and proper wind conditions I was a little concerned with how slow I could get it for landing. Well, with the 91 just a hair above very low idle it just floated in for a very short, smooth landing. I haven't mastered hovering yet and even on my maiden flight I hovered longer than with any other plane with no fear of getting out of trouble with just a bump of throttle. I can't wait to take it to the field.

Well lets see if any body else has had as bad of a week as I have. wanted to go flying the ucando last Saturday, but got sick going to the air Field. went home, got sicker and sicker all week. When I could not take it any more, I went to see my doctor, She thought I had the flu, so did some test and well I did not have the flu, I had walking pneumonia, strep, and I have an ear infection that has made me loose the hearing in my right ear. Doc says it will come back, but not sure when. This sucks. But I did get the monocoupe done and the engine broken in.

Man oh man, you are the walking wounded. I hope going to the field to fly my U Can Do doesn't have the same results. If it does it would be a very weird and rare disease - U-Can-Do flying flu - [:'(]Let's hope not.

Get well soon and back in the air where you belong.

goldenclan,

There's some mean stuff going around.... My pops, and myself have had an upper respitory infection for weeks.. I'm talking FIVE WEEKS... He's old, so we force him to the doctor every week... checking for 'walking pneumonia'.... What's weird, I just read a story about the actress who played in 'meet the parents'.... She died, after being misdiagnosed several times... Same as my symptoms.... Take care of yourself...

Hey guys, Great thread going here. I have a UCD 46. My 70 surpass is now riding in my cap 580. I have a 90 surpass sitting around. So the question is, does anyone currently have a 90 four stroke in theirs? Has anyone had any airframe failures becouse of it? Which prop are you using with it? Thanks for any help.

You just have to remember that speed is a killer of the u-can-do. keep your prop pitch low and manage your throttle and you will have a ball with the plane.

I have a magnum 70 rfs with a 13 x 4 prop APC 3d

Hey guys, Sorry to hear about the sickness going around. I've been very fortunate not to get sick at all this year. Gotta love that........ >>>>>>>> Warning >>>>>>>> The following picture is graphic in nature. Veiwing it could cause nausea, vomitting, and headaches........... Keep small children from veiwing it.

I took the UCD out for a spin after work today and the spinning never seemed to stop. I had done a few laps and some hovering and went up for some inverted flat spins [8D] and lost all control. [X(] I took it up high, went inverted, and it started spinning and spinning but then it got faster and nose down wouldn't respond to my inputs. [>:] It actually had a pretty good spin going untill the earth got in the way. [&o] Well, when I got home the look on my face must have said it all. My wife said "what happened to your plane today? Did you crash it?" Yikes!! I think crash is an understatement. I think aliens abducted it and decide to use it for a Kamakazi experiment. Fortunately my wife is the sweetest lady on the planet and she said "just buy another one." I take my marriage vows seriously and happen to remember "Obey" as one of them for this instance. Gotta start checking around for a deal on a new UCD.............

The picture was taken after I started taking it apart.

Gjeffers, Sad isn't it. They get a mind of their own and look what happens........ Airplanes are no good on their own.... Sad thing too is that Tower hobbies site is messed up right now. I might have to call them and order. Dry lake bed flying? Wow! That would be cool. I did some high power rocket launching on the Blackrock dry lake bed. 40 miles long and 10 miles wide or something like that. Lots of fun..........

Spud37, The 91 should work fine and have lots of "pull out of hover power". With a 91 I think you would have success with a 15x4w APC prop. Under normal use the 91 shouldn't cause any structural problems unless you are diving fast and pullout fast. They are pretty much a slow flying plane.

CEE Gee, That's the inverted flat spin landing I've been learning so well myself. I am soooo sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you will jump right back on.
Thanks,
Barry

Hey guys, gals, I have a video of a OS91FX powered UCD46 if anyone wants to host it for me.

Since alot of people are talking about the OS91 and wondering how well they do, I thought this would be a good video to share. He does alot of hovering and it shows how well the pullout is. It also shows the slow flying capabillities of this plane. I really don't think many people have seen this one. This is a guy is at a feild about two hours away from my local feild. (I think, not real sure)

Joe

BTW, It's about 41 Mb

CeeGee, sorry to hear about your loss, your wife sounds alot like mine, I went thru a rash of plane crashes, only 3 were un-repairable. Then I got the u-can-do and have flown the heck out of it. Still haven't had the courage to flat spin it. I have tried every think else that I can this of and some stuff I have no idea what it is. Good luck on the next one.

CeeGee......what the heck happened???? That was a purdy plane man!! That bites dude. Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully that won't happen to me. To be honest with you, I like the knife edges, hovering and inverted flying. I just haven't been too turned on to flat spins and blenders and whatnot. That will prolly change once I get it in the air tho. I don't know exactly how this whole thing is gonna feel when I get to it but I will soon find out when I get to maiden the UCD. Good luck with your purchase. And you must have a verrrrrry understanding wife. WAY TO GO!!

Now I gotta go clean up my vomit off the computer screen, take some asprin for my headache, and now I have to get my girlfreinds daughter out of the closet and explain to her that the plane is in U-CAN-DO-3D HEAVEN. (thats gonna take a while)

See ya!

Joe

P.S. I got my UCD at my LHS. The y had 139 marked on it and since I have been such a good customer in the past and promoted soooo much buisness for them, he gave it to me for 120. GOOD LUCK!

Wow CeeGee.. Sorry about your mishap:-(... Sounds like you have
a great Wife!!.. I say this and that about my other half.. But she's
the greatest!!!..
On your misfortune, You say it was nose down spinning.. Not sure
if you had time, but did you just release control inputs to get clean
air on your surfaces before trying to regain control.. I was told that
when I did the same thing on my Dazzler, It does help, if you have
enough time...
Windy today:-(... It's been over a week with no flying:-(.. I think I'm
going nuts...

goldenclan... Hope your better!!... Keep that away... Hate to be sick
when it gets nice out....

Thanks to all the guys with the help.

to Fred Dings, II- I have read the majority of the 54 pages of this thread. Your right there's allot of info. Sometimes if you throw a question out those in the know will give you an answer instead of passing it on.

Again thanks to those that shared their experiences with me.

I just put a Saito 91 in U-Can-Do 46 and what a fabulous result. Does anything on less than half throttle and balances perfectly. Enjoy.

Thanks for all the condolences. Donations can be sent to..... Oh! just kidding. There wasn't enough time to pull it out of the spin. By the time I knew what was happening it was too late. Chalk it up to experience. Fortunately I had my U. Stick in the truck as well so I cleaned up the carnage and got right back up into the air. One of the instructors there said the same thing had happened to his 4*40. ........ I got on the Tower site and ordered a new one. I see that they have gone up to 149.00 but found a code for 20.00 off on another thread on the forum. I plugged that code in and got the 20.00 off. Yippie!! Another UCD build coming up. I learned some things on the last on to incorporate into the new one. Looking forward to getting out flying again.

CeeGee - Sorry to here about your plane........

The build on my new UCD is going well. Installed the OS 91 earlier today. Hopefully, I can maiden it this weekend if the rain dosen't show up that's predicted.

Heres a few pics......

OHHH, hey Fred,, thanks for the info earlier this week. Thats an interesting concept on the gyro on your buddies UCD. I have never heard of that to be honest. I'm wondering if the guy would mind me emailing him to find out more details?

I'm still learning how the font, etc. works. I'm anxious to see what this looks like.

To answer your question...I'm sure Dave Quatse wouldn't mind talking about his gyro, and his e-mail is [email protected] does really well with his O.S. .91 4C and a 14-6 prop.
From flying with him and watching his hover and tail touching I can tell you that the gyro only helps... you still have to use the rudder stick. Mike McConville of Horizon Hobby 3D fame, advocates the use of a gyro to help learn the hover manuever.

Something I keep forgetting to mention, maybe you guys do this, but I reflex my ailerons on most of my floater airplanes. For example...landing into a strong headwind the UCD and other floaters don't want to land, so I flip a switch to make spoilerons out of my ailerons and you can put it where you want it ... with a little practice. I do this with my Twist, UCD, Piper Cub, and some of my other planes. Sort of the poor man's Harrier.

Regards, FRED
