Another thing I like to do with 3D airplanes with a rearward CG is set up radio programming for flaps/spoilers. The 9C does this easily. What I like is to add about 15-30 degree spoilerons when I land. This is especially helpful on windy conditions. This lessens the lift on the wing, and makes a quicker more predictable, nose down approach. It really helps quite a bit. The guys in the pits are all screaming "Did you see that? He landed easily with all that wind. I can't believe it". Of course after touch down I dial the spoilerons back to level then taxi into the pits. No one is the wiser.
Thanks,
Barry

Spoilerons also make hovering much, much easier, and flat spins much easier and tighter and faster, and is a great advantage on harriers. But I don't want to give away to many trade sercets. I've done enough just letting out my secret on prop repair. Next thing ya know everybody will be doing it.
Thanks,
Barry

Thanks Barry for all your efforts. I took out the Y harness last night and tried to get the second elevator working by using the 9C manual. No luck. The manual mentions something about using the program mix for channel 5 but doesn't detail how to do it and I couldn't get it to work. I'll diddle with it some more or just get an 8 channel receiver. Thanks again.......

CEEGee, Give Futaba a call. They can help you work it out easily. I think it has to go in channel 7. You can put your battery in channel 5. That will have no difference. But call them. They will help, I promise. They did me.
Thanks,
Barry

Barry, That's a good idea. I'll call them before I spend another 80 bucks on an 8 channel. I can't use channel 7 since I already have it tied up with an aileron servo..............

Hey CeeGee, You could set up a programable mix to do the twin elevator system. I did it with the futaba 7 cap, the only problem I had was if I adjusted the trim for the elevator, only the master would trim out and I would have to use the subtrim for the slave. Try this link [link]http://www.futabarc.com/faq/faq-9c-q512.html[/link]. It shows you how to set it for channel 2 and 7 but I think that you could use any open channel.

Thanks Goldenclan, I was just looking at that page from Futaba and printed it so I can check into it when I get home. Great minds think alike. The FAQ page seems to have more indepth info. than my manual. I saw some other info on there about mixing and printed that so I'm getting closer. Yippie!! [8D] I'll get this electronic Rubics Cube figured out........

CeeGee... It'll work, you just have to diddle with it some what.. But once you
have it setup... You'll never go back:-)... You can do so much with a computer
radio, and in return it'll make a few things a lot eaiser!!!... Plus as Barry said
once you get one plane setup you can just copy that info for your next plane
setup, Then you'll forget how you did it, but you can continue adding planes
to your radio:-)

Well my YS is not running great on the ground, But she does the job in the
air... Got 4 flights this morning and she ran great, just does not like to idle
to long:-(... Guy's at the field asked me why was I running to get my plane
after I put my radio on the gate radio stand, I told them I'm getting tired
using all that fuel just on the table, so I have to hurry to get it up:-).. I
guess the AZ heat is getting to the YS, But it is idleing better with the cowl
off.... She flat spins great now, Hovering is lacking pull out in this less dense
HOT air:-( She still floats good, but not as good as in the winter..... I'm
thinking of switching props to get a little more bite...

Well, I called Futaba and he said it should be easy to set up with the 9C. He said to set up the ailerons on 1 & 6 instead of 1 & 7 and then to set up the ailerons as flaperons then to set up the elevators on 2 & 7 having the 7 be the slave to 2. Can't wait to get home and try it out. Then I'll have the flaperons for the wind like Barry was talking about....... [8D] OH YEA BABY!! I'll be able to bring it on down in windy situation.... [8D]

Hey Cee Gee, Spud here I have mine set up that way and it works great . You'll like it. The reason chan.5 doesn't work is because it is just a on off switch activation. Chan 2&6 are used because of the flaperon relationship. You should be able to turn that feature on and be set as far as your ail & flap/spoil functions covered. Also check out your 2to6 & 6to2 functions out for tight loops. Hope some of this helps. Withthe 6to2 funct. you can zero out the chan2 and with a flip of a switch you'll deploy your spoil.

Raideron, I know we may have discussed this earlier, can't remember, but if not, make sure your couwl is cut WAY open. I always cut the entire bottom out, sorta follow the channel under there and have about a 2 1/4" square in the front. I also cut a 2 1/2" long by 1/8" slot about 1/2 way on each side. This keeps it open and allows the air to get out which keeps it cooler. One of the problems is the ambient air around the engine gets hot and then you change the jetting because the engine is sucking hot air. If you can get that hot air away from the engine it will run much better. It sounds like that is your simptions. Anyways, I always am very aware of an open cowl. They run so much better. The other thing you can do is move to Idaho.

CeeGee, I'm glad you call Futaba. I know your radion will do all the stuff you want, it's just getting it programmed. You mentioned flaperons, don't use those in the wind, use spoilerons. The spoilerons go up, the flaperons go down. You want the up for landing in the wind. At least I think that's what I do. Oh yeah, and don't tell anybody. I want to keep that a secret.
Thanks,
Barry

I managed to get in two flights (the second and third flights) yesterday and I must say that I'm really liking my new UCD 3D 46. Question: I noticed that the outer axle hole in one of the wheel pants is starting to get hogged out from vibration. I don't know what to do about the vibration. I double checked the prop on my magnetic balancer and it's perfect. Since the first flight, I've replaced the stock plastic spinner with a 2" Hobbico aluminum spinner. I'm guessing it's a good quality spinner, but who knows. Anyway, this particular engine (Super Tigre G.61) ran well and smooth enough for years on my Super Kaos. Maybe I should replace it with a 4-stroke .91...

If you are taking off from a grass strip, the wheel pants probably won't last long. I left mine off. One reason for it was if the landing gear breaks off, the wheel pants will punch some nice holes in the wing covering.

Ron,like Barry said you need a lot of air flowing through, here is a pic of my cowl i just finished and flew today at 90deg here in trona(just as hot here)and it ran nice and cool, it wont be long and me and you will be flying in 110+.

Kaos, if you insist on keepin the pants on (no pun intended)you can jb weld or 30min epoxy a washer just inside the hole to the inside of the wheel pants that fits the axle and it will keep from washing out the hole.

awe what the heck, here is some more pics

CeeGee,here is a pic of your idea to repair my lg,worked great,Thanks

Guys, you will not believe what happened to my plane. Flew it three times Saturday and I am loving it more with each flight. Did a Harrier type landing, plane was slow crawling along and finally touched down so sweet. It was a lot of fun.
So I get home, and I am walking down the stairs to my shop and I have the plane in one hand and the wing in another. Somebody put some junk on the stairs. Long story short, my foot slipped and I fell over the edge of the stairs. I landed on an antique screen and a 27 inch color t.v ...and my plane. So I am traveling out of town for the whole week, and I have to repair the tail and the wing when I get home Thursday. The wing is very simple, the ca hinges on one side pulled out and I think I have a tear in the covering. The left side stabilizer broke and I am thinking that I will need to do the wires. I cant think that I can repair it and have it be as strong as I want it to be without the stabilizing wires you guys have been putting on. ANy idea where I can get those?

Thanks

Tom

gjeffers, Did you realize you are flying upside down in that picture? Great job on the cowl. Mine looks pretty much like that only I opened it up even more on the very bottom. 110? I thought that was a speed limit not a temperature.
Thanks,
Barry

Hey guys...I just read where the new Futaba 14MZ can be programed to control to receivers at the same time!!! Wow. That would mean, if I put 1 receiver in 2 different planes I could fly them both at the same time?!?!?!?!? Wow! Now that would be cool. The would make for some serious formation flying. It would also give me some practice on prop repair.
Thanks,
Barry

Barry and Gary... Hey, that kinda has a ring to it..... My cowl looks like Gary's
in the front, But not quite as big, I was going to open it a bit more, my cowl's
bottom is open clear to the ramp... Not sure if that sounded good.... I really
did not want to cut the sides, I thought I'd get enough air with the bottom cut
out... It's getting air now with the cowl off:-).... Gary on the 110, I've been
past that on the freeway:-).... And at the field, I'm home before then.. As
they told me when I got into this a year ago, You have to be here just before
sun up to fly in the summer..... I told them you gotta be crazy!!!.. Let's see
I was at the field at 5:50, sun up was five mins. later... Well Guess I'm
Plane crazy:-)... Gary great pics!!
Ahh heck, I haven't posted a pic lately...

raideron. That cowl looks just like mine. You shouldn't have any airflow problems with that. Should be as good as it gets. Maybe start flying at night. Cooler then. Less crowded. Quiet. Better air density. I can't think of a reason not to. Usually no wind also. Maybe I'll start flying at night.
Thanks,
Barry

Hey Ya'll, Great pictures Gjeffers!! Awesome inverted pass....[8D] Now stop doing that, you're making me look bad...[:-]

Well, I got my elevator mix figured out. Works perfect. All it took was some programming and lots of smoke pouring out of my cranium. I tried to set some spoilerons but it got too late and I had to get to bed. It doesn't say anything in the manual about spoilerons but I talked to Futaba again and they are basically backward flaperons.......... It's getting there.[8D]

Barry, im surprised a seasoned inverted flyer like yourself didnt notice!!! im setting up for a inverted flatspin landing in that pic cant imagine doing it with two planes

Ron, it didnt sound good, and im up at 500am to fly in the summer also[&:]

CeeGee, before long you will be doing that inverted flatspin landing, just dont drop that radio, you might lose those settings.(and that cowl pic does look good huh!

Well, I'm back. And I got my new wheels! Pretty sweet hu? Drove like a dream on the way back to TX.
ANYWAYS.....I should be getting to the maiden early next week. since I got this truck, I have to get it ready for state inspections and get the $$$$ together for registration. Also for the inspection I have to get all new exhaust for it. Oh well, at least I got a good strait sruck to drive to the feild now.

HOCKEY!!!!!!........I think the 10 hour drive from New Mexico was enough driving for me. For a while anyways. Don't worry, I'll get the maiden out of the way soon. I'm pretty excited to get that thing in the air tho!!!!

Good pics gjeffers. The inverted pass looks great! How many flights you got on it so far?

See ya!

Joe
