Hey CeeGee... Sorry about your mishap, But glad she's all back
together... On your dead stick.... Are you sure it was not to lean??
It should have started bogging down somewhat if it was rich, with
more of a smoke trail than normal... Make sure your plug did not
go out.. Anyway just a thought...
Yes it is funny how other things somehow have a "little" less
meaning when you get hooked on this hobby:-) Hope you
enjoyed your trip.. Now get to flying:-)

gjeffers, After looking at your 60 in the picture, I think I can repair that prop. It would be a challenge. Yous is far worse than mine. What did you do, run over it? It's gonna be a little while before I get my 46 converted to the 100 because I'm getting busy at work. Probably a week or two. But I'm looking forward to it. I like the way my 46 flies better than the 60 also. However, I was really starting to enjoy the 60. It's the plane I'd been flying for the last couple of weeks. But the 46 is much more precise and it does those marveleous flat spins. Rising flat spins. Wow. I can hardly wait to try it with the big block. I was looking at it tonight. I think I can get it in there pretty easy. Thanks for the pic of the blind nuts. Man, I got to get me a digital camera and figure out how to post. There's a lot of pictures I'd like to post. But most of them are still in my head. Thanks,
Barry

sctcrash, I've flown one with a 46 in it. Flew good but I missed the pull of the 4 storke and the extra power of a bigger engine. However, I feel the best maneuver this plane does is the inverted flat spin. And I could do them just fine with the 46 although I couldn't make it rise. However, it will do the inverted flat spin landing as good as with the bigger engine. They are so cool. Thanks,
Barry

raideron, Sorry but I better not trade you for your Yak. I'd like one but I decided to try one of the new Showtime instead. I'm waiting for it to ship. It will be interesting to see if it ships before the Yaks do. Oh, I finally got some satisfaction out of my Funtana. Yeah. It was great. I gave it away to one of the nice older flyers in our club. He loves to tinker and he's a good guy and he promised he wouldn't hate me no matter how it flew. Best day I ever had with it.Thanks,
Barry

Liberator, I have a son who lives in Linden. Maybe when I visit him we'll have to get together and fly. That would be fun. Usually they only let me fly once as a guest. After they see my style they ask me to "just watch". Do you ever get up my way? Thanks,
Barry

]It did act like it leaned out before it slowly crashed. It seemed to be running funny the first flight so I landed. Second flight, it just shut off. [X(] It's ready to fly again though............

Barry,
Sounds great, and if I have any prop issues...well you can handle that when we get together.
I only get that way as I travel to Jellystone National Park to see Boo Boo. My uncle lives in Shelly though and I used to make the trip to see them once in a while.
I fly at the Ute Field in North Salt Lake so if you are coming down on a weekend give a holler.
I have my plane in the truck as we type. I told my Boss about it and we are taking an afteroon "route audit" to let him see how things go.
Below are some pics of what a chrome U-Can-Do might look. Also a Pic of the tail wires.

Hey Barry... I was looking at the showtime, and still at the others
mayhem, F90 etc. something my other 110 will fit into... I was
going to ask about your F90 on your retry of it.... Guess you
answered that:-(
No I did not want to swap my Yak.... It's a keeper for me, even
if I have not flown it yet
I was just looking for another sweet
deal... It's funny I have been looking at the planes above and
more along with maybe another UCD 46 or the 60, but you all
said the 46 flies better.... And I end up getting a profile... So
much to get......
Windy.... :-( So playing on the puter... and getting more great
money saving tips from ya'll... Have a Great Day!!

Thanks for all the great information.
EL ****CANO - Thanks for the pics, its good to see that the cowl will fit on ok with that big P-Box muffler. It looks like a lot of people have added a lot of weigh up front, how much did you have to add with the 46 AX in there.
gjeffers - Love the pic, my Somethin Extra looked pretty similar after i collected the debris into one pile. I took a picture of the crash site with my phone camera.

radieron. I must say there are a lot of airplanes out there. And part of the fun is to build one and get it as good as you can and then do another one. It's part of the diease, eh, or, a, hobby. Anyways, I consider you a friend and I couldn't recommend the F90 to anybody, but least of all my friends. I know there are a dozon threads telling everybody how great this plane is, but if you read deep enough you will find that nobody is flying it with the recommended engine and it is pathatic how overweight it is. And if flys like crap or at least lands like crap. I'm not the best pilot but I can land all my planes pretty good. This is so far off it is joke. After all the extensive work I put into this plane. I lightened it almost 1/2 lbs, went to the YS 110 engine, reinforced the landing gear, reinforeced the tail feathers, changed the tail wheel, and the landing gear. Went to high torque servos, rebalance to the perfect 7" recommended spot, introduced a lilttle down thrust with the engine. After all that I couldn't tell any difference. And all the video I've ever seen of this plane shows flying and then some sort of harrier landing. I didn't give up on it easy. I flew this plane for over 50 flights. I didn't have one good landing. I flew it with a Saito 150 early on and then retired it because I hated it. Then I rebuilt it with the 110 and still hated it. Anyways, you've all probably read all my posts elsewhere on this plane. And I don't want to bash it. But I have an honest, objective opinion and I have several same class planes to compare it to and I couldn't recommend it to anybody. Life is too short to fly that plane. And it doesn't do anything better than other similar planes. There is a lot out there that is good. Why bother with this pig.On a positive note, I can whole heartedly recommend the Mayhem 3D. That is one of my favorite planes. Mine weighs 7lbs 10oz with the 110 on board. It has a wider wingspan then the F90 and it flys better and lands, lands.., lands...well it lands just like a UCD. Need I say more. I would recommend the Mayhem over the UCD 60. I think it flys better, but in fairness, I think the UCD is just as "fun" to fly. But the Mayhem does everything better, cleaner except for hover where the UCD is better. The Mayhem is kinda of a sleeper and not to many people have one. And if you buy it from Tower you usually can get the price down to $189. And get this...they actually have them in stock.
I have high hopes for the showtime, but obviously I don't have much of an opinion yet.
Anyways, sorry for the F90 bashing and sorry to make so many posts. I know most have more to offer than me and I can be long winded and passionate about things.
Thanks,
Barry

Thanks Barry.... I watched a few, and have seen the landing problems,
I flew a 40 size and tho the member had the same "floating" on landing
I thought it landed good for me with a little down.. but could not get
anyone to let me try the 90.... I was trying to get this one off of a club
member.. The deal was getting close, But he wanted to try one more
flight before talking...(he loves to fly with the throttle wide open(OS-108)
serveral members told him about 3D planes and speed... Long story
short... Wing came apart... History!! But the Kyle vidio keeps coming to
mind, Knowing I could get somewhat there:-)... Given the same amount
of stick time..... Yeah I wish....
OK, Back to the UCD 46..... Sorry guys.... No landing problem with it:-))))

Britton, One thing you can do to keep weight off is to omitt the blocks that the cowl screws go into. Just mount the cowl in the normal location and drill into the side of the firewall area. You can see from the picture that you'll end up drilling into the corner blocks that are behind the firewall. ( this idea is thanks to Kokamo) Also, I used a Hitec Hs 85BB servo for the throttle. It's about 1/2 the calories of a regular servo.
If you get a line to some aluminum axles I like to know. That sounds like a good idea.

SCTCRASH,
I DON´T PUT MORE WEIGHT TO THE PLANE, I MOVE THE THROTTEL SERVO FOR THE FRONT, I HAVE TO CUT THE COOPIT FLOOR, BUT I PAINT THE CANOPY, AND THE BATERIES IS UNDER THE FUEL TANCK.
THE CG ITS 6"

raideron, Yeah the Kyle video is what made me retry my F90. I thought if he could do it so can I. Ha Ha. Anyways, that video is some of the best flying I've ever seen. And the fact that he did it with a Funtana is what made me come back to it. However, I'll bet he'd do just as well with the UCDs. Maybe better. Anyways, you'll notice that he does a pretty cool spining harrier landing with his. But it still is a harrier landing. And it's much much worse in the wind. Here in Idaho we have big wind. Anyways, that's my final comment about the F90. On to better things, like the UCDs. Thanks,
Barry

Britton, A wood prop helps with weight a little bit although I don't personally use them. Too hard to repair. But you can save at least an ounce, maybe two. Also, I always look at the tires. I can't honestly remember what tires come on the UCD40. I put the super lite DuBro tires. They weigh about 3/4 oz for both of them. Mine weighs 5 lbs 14ozs. That's the best I could do without going to light weight servos. I use metal gear servos. But I think the plane flys good and is very responsive at this weight. I use a Saito 82 but soon to be 100. I think anytime you are under 6 lbs with this plane it is fine. But I agree, lighter is better.I read a pretty neat saying over on the pattern thread. "Nose heavy planes fly bad. Tail heavy planes fly once." I thought that was pretty good.
Thanks.

man CeeGee, the 21st ive got to go fishing with my bro-in-law in his new camp trailer, what a bummer, but im gonna do my best to keep in touch with the real world also, like you a real trooper! DANG IT,[&o]
hope my firewall holds up,maybe ill go pour some glue in there and do a little sewing
learning alot on this thread about repair.
Barry, dont send us a pic of your head, it probly wont fit, youll have to downsize it,just kidding
here is some more pics, the little brown spots areeeeee, oh there where the old blind nuts went and i pluged them with dowels. when you go to mount the mount(nothing sounding right today)mine is 3/16in higher than the old thrust line as you can see in the pic,(the two little black marks just left of the hole. and you can see how close the screw on the carb and the screw on the mount are, about a 16th in.if you need any more pics i can get them.

Hey guys, Spud here-well I'm now a certified UCD driver. Finally took it out today with 15 knot sustained winds. The 90 never made it past 1/2 throttle. Up up & away. Did my first ever actually flat inverted spin. Here in Homestead, FL we are at sea level, so there is no lowering the field. Pulled out before the landing, sorry guys no inverted landing today. Tried some hover but to windy for a novice like me. Tried out a couple of my P-mixes all was working well. Turned for home throttled to just over idle into the wind and spot landed some ten feet away with no roll-out. Had to call it a day because of one of our S. FL afternoon showers sneaking in & for some reason my muffler shook loose- I balanced the living dog-P out of the prop and spinner. Maybe I drilled the hole little off center, who knows? I want to get a tru-turn 2" wide cut and some apc 15-4w's. But after the 9C the wife says I'm done for awhile. Well I have overtime Fri & Military next weekend soooooooo maybe she'll budge just a little. Besides this weekend is her day anyway.

Gjeffers, Glad to hear you'll be a sport and go camping. Tough isn't it. I think my lip was dragging the whole trip. [&o]
Somehow I managed to not let it show.... We had to come home a day early though....... major bummer......... NOT! [8D]
Well, after last weeks deadstick after take off and the repairs I had to do I was a little hesitant to fly the UCD but I took it out and had an AWESOME afternoon of flying. I set it up on my picnic table at home and checked the tune and found that somehow the adjustment on the needle was way off. I adjusted it with my tach and got it running perfect again.
It was windy at the field so I flew my 4* 40 around for a little bit. It was OK but not anything like the UCD. The wind died down and it was time for some UCD action. I cranked it up and it flew just like it always had..........
[8D]
PERFECT!!
AWESOME PLANE............
