Awefully good offer there Zonk, but I guess I'll pass. I hope I don't regret it later. Thanks for the pointer to radio south for the hinges.

RE: UCD
Does anyone know if the 460cc Tettra tank will fit at the CG location? (this tank is just under 16oz.)
|
RE: UCD
you got a link to it????
that would help Wade!!!![&:] |
RE: UCD
Zonk,
PM me with all of your information and I will get you the $75. Thanks a lot, I have a new YS110 just waiting for home. |
RE: UCD
Jim, Several places sell them but specifically I was looking at radiosouthrc.com. I know some are using tanks other than stock but I'm not sure which ones. I'm looking to upgrade for reliability against YS pressure.

RE: UCD
Zonk,
Never mind just checked my email & tower has them in stock so I ordered it. |
RE: UCD
JIM Tower Hobbies sells (Radio South hinges) As well>

RE: UCD
( HELP ) I know , I saw somewhere on this thread , there was carbon fiber landing gear for the 60/90 that was a direct replacement for the stock gear . Thanks, Butch.

CF main gear
I got mine from http://www.graphtechrc.com/Secure/mall/maingear.asp

RE: UCD
Dubro 16oz with minor widening of fuselage formers fits perfect.

RE: what the heck is going on???
Balance at 5" to 6" behind leading edge no fuel in tank. Also even at less than 3D control throw settings you will need some expotential rate on the elevator and rudder. On low rate my elevator throw is only about an inch up and down 2 inches total and a quick shot of full up at half speed will stop it in mid air. The long fuselage has alot of leverage on the pitch moment(up and down) I would suggest to ask a more experienced pilot to help with the set up of your aircraft. In all this would be the quickest way to enjoying a really fun airplane.Good Luck

RE: what the heck is going on???
Chief Aircraft has the carbon struts for 25 smackers.

RE: UCD
You can use the CA hinges from Radio South, the 1/4 scale ones. Or you can use pinned hingepoints. Either way, make sure you can seal your hingelines, both sides preferably.

RE: UCD
Hello everyone,
First time poster here. I am thinking about buying the UCD 60. I am open to suggestions on engines. I am serioulsy considering the Saito 100. Cost is a pretty important consideration for me. I know the Saito isn't the cheapest route. I definately want four stroke, unless there is a very compelling reason not to. This will be my second plane. I have heard that if you dial down the throws it will be a good first aerobatic plane. I am also REALLY open to suggestions on the transmitter. I am currently considering the Futaba 6exa, mainly for its cost ($179.99). But I am not tied to this. Also a suggestion on what reasonable priced servos for whatever radio you suggest. About the only thing I am sure of is the desire for a U Can Do 60, everything is is up in the air. Thanks in advance. Eric Phoenix, Az |

Here is my setup and I find it to work good for me: Saito 100 Futaba 9202 all around except a Hitec 5645mg on the rudder Radio is the old Futaba 6da soon to be replaced by the 9C this january good luck with your setup matt |
RE: UCD
Good choice in planes... I LOVE mine. I will say that I have the Futaba 3004 servos everywhere except the rudder which is a 9202. Mine reponds VERY well, so well in fact that I have to be careful if flying at moderate speeds. Even at low rates it will really turn ona dime. At high rates Im not sure what my roll rate is but its darn fast, I can get it spinning almost too fast to count. FUN=UCANDO!

RE: UCD
I too found my setup perfect.....until I switched to digital servos. JR811s These things are sick! Centering is like 1%. I did like it just as much with the Hitechs 405s which I think are now discontinued. I still have the Hitech 645 on rudder in a pull/pull configuration and as soon as my hobbyfund recooperates I will switch that out to digital as well. Can't see the difference untll they are side by side. They are much quicker and crisp!!!!!! Saito 100 is the way to go. Lighter than the OS 91 with a lot more bang. 15/6 prop, CG at 5 5/8" You will love this plane. It lands like a Senior Kadet, which should be illegal.

RE: UCD
Supereri,
The choice of the Saito 100 4-stroke engine for the UCD 60 seems to be a popular one. I'm currently removing an OS 91 2-stroke from a UCD 60 and installing a Saito 100 4-stroke with a 15x6 APC prop and I cannot at the moment confirm that this will be a better setup. I hope it will be. I'm using only Futaba S3004 standard servos on all three of my UCD's (two 60's and one 46). I thought I'd give them a try before buying fifteen $100 servos for the control surfaces and so far I see no reason to replace them. And yes, those S3004's with their puny little 44 ounces-inches of torque will crank that big rudder over and do knife edge loops, blenders, etc. |

I had did a forum on it months ago i think its called u can 3d w/120+ size engines. I love to fly this one on an 8oz tank for an easy 15 minutes. it will do the waterfall and t-roll very well. I have never been able to do a blender or elevator with this set up. I am 8 3/4 lbs with a pitts muffler. I am not sure what the weight will be with the tune pipe. I have unlimited verticle. I could never get the RCS 1.4 to have unlimited verticle on the pervious planes (DP ultimate and a DA Funtana). I figured what the heck why not try that baby on this kit. The rCS is right at home on this set up. I am running a 18 x 6W apc that works great! The balance works great by sifting my servos in the rear (3), and the reciever battery. I should be able to use the cowl this time around and it will all hide in that long sucker. |
RE: UCD
Krayzc, Thanks for the response. I'll look up that thread. I was thinking about sratchn' a scaled up UCD for a gasser. Maybe I can get away with your setup. I read about some other guy mounting a chopped down G23 or 26. on his. The cowl will fit? (length) Did you use their motor mount or the GP mount that came with it. Any mods to the firewall? What about a dead stick landing, seems like it would just point straight down with the weight. Thanks, Joe
Looked for the thread under that heading, nothing. |

I did no mods to the plane to make it any stronger. I went it with a laid back altitude. I did not pin or glass anything for strength. I think if a plane can achieve balance with in the spec it doesn't realize that it has a heavy or light motor on the front. I am with in the spec by relocating of the servos and receiver battery. Plus the motor is very smooth my satio and ys engines shake more than this engine. I did not get the 1st batch of u can do also, which means I may have a stronger kit. The first batch I heard a few people pulling off the landing gear. Mine has held tight. I did use the mount that was supplies I had to take a drimel and grind out some off both the inside to allow the motor to sit in there. This is a quick to put in the sky kind of plane.....I did have to put about 4 degrees of right thrust to have the kind of up lines that I like... I will show a pic of a u can do with the covering striped off |
RE: UCD
Hey krazyc, what's your new covering scheme like ? Interesting pic of the ucd stripped.
