Roger, sorry for your loss. Remember the doors of the Ministry are open in your time of need. Let us bow our heads in a moment of silence at this tragic time and also remember past incidences as well. Joe

Roger, sorry for your loss.
Who lost what? Jeff, one other thing. The remote glow only helps when starting the engine. After you remove the glow starter from the remote glow it serves no function. It's simple a power relay to the primary on the engine.

autoguns - I fuel proof the inside as well, but still don't like exhaust going inside the fuse. Get's everything all oily inside over time. Like you said, to each his own. That’s one of the things I like about RCU. You get different options from many different people. Then you have to select the best for you. We all learn from these discussions.

I have to admit that I'm not as concerned with the weight thing that some of you are. I don't want a tank in the air either, but then I don't like foam wheels, plastic spinners etc. Trade offs with both approaches. You just have to assemble to suit your specific wants and desires. As for the mount, I purchased a mount for this engine and not real concerned about it being used with other engines. Then again, the fit is perfect, tight and no slop. I have seen guys use both. It's all a matter of what you want.

I don't know what kind of pressure the pump is putting out ,but it will turn a sq tank into a round one ,It did split the tank that came with the UCD3D, I found out when the engine didn't want to run right ,,Then I saw the fuel draining from the fuse....Glad I fuel proofed the tank area and radio bay.....Now it has a seamless tank ...Once I un-hooked the fuel line at the ez-fueler on my test stand ,WOW that fuel shot across the shop and the front of my pant's were soaked , man that Nitro is very cold....LOL....JW

Dave, no CG concerns with mine. It was right on the nose with my set-up. The sky blue stripe does not align well with this mount. I mentioned this in a previous thread way back. I had to cut new strips and positioned on the fuse to get the alignment right.

It's not that I haven't ever used silicon adhesive to seal the opening , I have used it on a couple of plane's...On this one I have the problem of the tank expanding & contracting because of the pressure the pump put out ,...I'm sorry if you were offended by my comment's, that was not my intent ....I also use alum spinner's ...Like I said in my last post ....To each there own......Some like chevy ,some like ford ......And some even like dodge...LOL.....JW quote

JW, no way my friend. I don't get offended on these sites. Too easy to misinterpret when only using the written word. I wasn't offended at all, and hate that my response suggested such. I really appreciate good feedback and a different POV. Like I said, this helps us all to think more about what we are doing and why we are doing it. Jeff has already made me think more about weight than I have before. Thank you though for being concerned enough to respond as you did.

Guys...
Right... Quick recap over what i hope everyone conciders a reasonable standard of build commitment for this airplane...Hang on though, this realy is a first class kit by GP..Even though it cost over $100 more in U.K. I still think it's well worth it.
OK.91FS II P on the front..to start with..YS later ..or, as and when neccesary, Neat and tidy O.S tuned pipe to suit, bottom exit...
New tank, same capacity.. but fits exactly betwee the two formers above the wing..
Hi-tec servo's all round, torque values to suit, low profiled in wing, Irvine 3mm carbon rods with double-lock ends,
Beefed up landing gear bay ( Done this allready... 'Voltwatch' covering acces hatch )..
Fixed stab. Gp mount ...needed the length..for flexi pipe exit off header.
Du-Bro heavy duty horns..
O.S remote glow, GP easy fueler.....Futaba ..Tru-Turn..Zinger..all have a part to play...Sullivan Tailwheel ..
Lastly, Im sure the stock hinges are OK in " Fit,Form,& Function...so lets have faith in 'em..!...all the surfaces they are to fit to were cut and slotted ready for them anyway.
So ..here we are ..ready to go to build ..! any last minute ' fine tuning ' ? shout up chaps..!
Oh, Roger,Joe,JW.. Thanks for suggestions, tips, hints & well... loadsa fun..! This is the best . Couple of photo's ...Just for fun..! Oughta go cover the Exta's wings realy but cant wait to get going with the UCD...
Again , many,many thanks.."Lets go Girls..."...!

Dave

LL if you have any doubt about the CA hinge's ,Get some clear monocoat ,cut some strip's out of it ,place over the hinge line.....Just a little added protection.....do the center first at low heat....JW ....PS... sound's like you got the base's covered.....JW

Dave, your on your way to a real thrill. The only thing that I could add is I'm really impressed with the Dubro pinned hinges. They fit in the same slots. Never had a failure on the stock ones, but these are slick. Where did you get the fuel tank? I posted in the other UCD thread a while back and with no response I just cut a little off the former to fit the stock tank yesterday, a day late and a dollar short. The build is easy and goes well, but I don't know about the stated 10 hour build time. Joe

Is the tank a seamless? ...As far as the 10hr build time...Well when you work for GP's and have a crew to build you'r plane's ,I can see that time being a real time frame......JW

I'ma goin ta da field ,we got some snow ,so I gotta go plow .....[&o]....But I'm takein the cub on ski's.....

Joe.
Are these the flat dubro hinges then ? I went looking at those round thingy ones ..that fit in a 1/8 hole... silly me ! Any more details ?
The tank.... cant for the life of me remember what make /where i got it from... its a v.good quality job...but i'd have doubts about its ability to support a YS fuel system ... you dont see that many YS's over here ..! If you want one holler, i got a couple, your welcome to one, free gratis... Dave.

Whoa...Tanks that is ..not YS's...!

Dave, yes they are flat. I hesitated on previous builds thinking that they were overkill and hard to use. By no means can you blow through them like CA hinges, but turned out to be very easy to use. 30 min. epoxy lets you move them around if you need to. The hinge line is perfect, the resistance is zero with more servo torque going into movement of the control surfaces instead of fighting the stiffness of the solid plastic CA strips. I don't want to sound like a product spokesman but these hinges are worth the effort. On those hinge point things, my concern is the 1/8 diameter of the probe that goes into the TE and control surface. Thats a big hole. Okay the stock on the wing is thick but the hor. stab. is only 5/16" that does not leave much. If something is going to break it will be at the weakest point. To me that 1/8" hole is it. The stab couldn't take the hinge point type. Here is a pic of the little buggers. Joe

Thats what was buggin me.. that 1/8 hole in your woodwork!...did they do a 5/16 one as well ...?..plus, if you wer'nt spot on with your hole centering/alignment ,with large throws you where heading for trouble.
O.K ordered two sizes of Du-bro pinned higes this afternoon, from down " The smoke..." should be here tomorow...did you use the 'small' or ...well ...not 'small'..?
The big fellows with the cotter pin i thought would definitely be overkill... seeing your photo there has slightly tipped me over the edge on this.. Dave

Hello all, stole a little time today for some serious stuff. Got my tank mounted on the CG. A little brace work, new throttle servo tray and a dirty used velcro strap. Thats gotta go. Ordered some "Ernst thrust plates" from Quantum Models and some HD servo arms for those JR digi's, oh yeah, also the fuel regulator from Cline. Ouch....$60.00 From what I'm told, aside from the one way valve, its just a diaphram from a carb. Put it in a case and market it for a special application like RC and there you go, sixty smackers.

Dave, it just goes to show, a picture is worth a thousand words. Joe
