That was my thoughts Down.
As far as "with enough power anything will fly"... I had a off-brand V-Max .46 on mine and it flew great with it. Keep in mind I didn't know much 3D back then, but for a Fun-Fly/Aerobatic plane it was awesome. And yes, I've flown others that I can't say the same thing about.
I've looked at most of your posts lately and they deal with the Wild Hare Extra... please tell me you're not comparing the $99 Twist to that $400+ aircraft!?!?!?
I spend quite a bit of time on RC Universe and RC Groups and browse a number of threads where my fingers reach the keyboard to do something like you did here... then I think.... and hit the BACK button and get out of there and let the people have their party without me pissing on them. See what we're getting at here. Besides, 208 pages can't be wrong. Like you said, it's your opinion... but I don't think you've told us if you have even flown one yourself. I take it that you've SEEN them fly but not with your hands at the controls of your own Twist?

People who are fanboys of this plane seem to think anyone that doesn't like it is only here with the intention of pissing on your party... this is not the case. The intention is to hopefully educate people looking at the thread from making a horrible choice for a 3D plane.

I'm one of the persons in the Pic stomping the plane. I personally would have preferred lighting it up and then flying it but thats against the AMA regs, its wasn't my plane, and it was daytime.
Its all about "expectations". My opinion (and thats all it is...and we are all entitled to that on this thread) the Twist 3d just needs to be renamed the Twist FunFly...well unless your expectations for 3D is 10,000 foot up and hovering like a top for 3 seconds until the nose falls over because the momentum on the plane stopped. We all know what kind of 3d that is---"Its Not 3d" However if thats your expectations --- its great.
Now if your able to get better 3d out of the plane than that...then more power to it..but there are certainly lots of easier ways to do it that would be more fun and less like work in trying to accomplish something the plane is really not good at.
As the guy who owned the plane that stomped it said, "Life is too short to fly crappy planes". Actually that was what I said--but he agreed.

I would agree that it would more correctly be called the TWIST FUN FLY than a 3D ship. No argument there. I've said (and most of the regulars here would agree) that since day one, or at least from the time where I was comfortable enough with it to try 3D. I can fly circles around most people with my electric powered foamies so 3D isn't a strange style of flight for me, so I would have to say it is the plane or my setup... or a combination of both when regarding my Twist.

Ghee upon looking at your posts it would appear you are most definitely into the H9 Twist and HL Yak. That said have you ever considered a Profile. A Mojo perhaps or if the ARF price is to steep for now perhaps a Zero Gravity by Cedar Hobbies. If kits float your boat than most definitely consider a Chinn Yak, Williams Extra, or OMP Fusion. Sounds like you like to flex the thumbs and if so these particular airframes will put a grin from ear to ear. Check em out and give them a consideration, I don't think you will regret it. If you like your foamy than move to the next biggest thing to it........Just putting it out there...............

Sounds like good advice! I would like to try a Chinn Yak especially. I've met Jeremy Chinn at Memphis E-Fest a couple times. He's a cool guy with some good designs... electric and glow.

Trollers,
This is a T_ _ _ T forum after all. Where else should people discuss it? Maybe we should all take your advice and buy what you deem appropriate? There's alot of people that enjoy this plane simply for what it is........for some a trainer.....for others a blast to fly...........why do feel you have to educate anyone about what they feel is "sliced bread" or not? Like I said before I question the motivation. Enough said....troll on, dude.

Shoot the man is a 3D Jedi.
Bit of a tougher build than most but still within the realm of a guy whom has built something in the past. I would recommend reinforcing the fuse with some carbon for dorking purposes. Give it a shot and see what you think. There is plenty of help on RCGroups and the PB site to get out of any building pickle you might get into, including help from Chinn himself. Git one on order and make it a winter project. I guarantee you will end up with one of the loosest, most versatile 3D weapons ever made.

It remains the same........
A person can't get on a website and post his opinion without some others wantting to turn it into a storm. Not casting any stones at anyone in particular but this is EXACTLY why I don't post much here.
It appears that if you don't share the popular opinion then you are a storm starter. Oh Well, so be it. I posted my opinion and if it steps on toes, I apologize for that but not for having an opinion and posting it.
I have flown a T***T, Now I'm gonna catch it from some other people, and to say the least, it is an agile airplane that will do all sorts of crazy stunts but people who believe they are 3Ding with it need to build a real 3D airplane and experience first hand what it is truly all about.
Now I'm going back to where I belong and probably won't be back for a while.

It isn't the point if the plane can or can not fly 3D,, I don't believe anyway,, to me the point is can I have a good time flying this plane? Can I do Anything at all with this plane and impress myself,, My Answer is YES,,, I have a blast with this plane and I have flown Countless models of all sizes and shapes, Hell I'm from the old school where you just glue anything together and then see if your experienced enough to fly it, I always welcome criticism or negatives about anything, it just adds more incite to my knowledge base for when people do ask about the planes pros and cons. all information and aspects from others are great..
As for me,, no one will ever convince me that this isn't a great plane to have a blast with, it is, and as far as the 3D stuff goes, I love the challenge of making this plane do all the 3D things other crafts can do with ease, try doing a few hovers with the Kadet, Cobra, Piper cub, Corsair, Ultimate Bipe, Ultra sport 40, 4 star 40, or the Eagle 63, just to name a few, then tell me your a 3D pilot, Not that I can do it either, but I sure try like hell, Anyone can buy a plane made for 3D and learn how to do it, now try doing 3D with DownT's cast iron Tub ,,, That would impress me....
I never answered the throws setting question for Naswifty,, I set my throws all the same,, low and high to above the high rates,,, and 0 Expo, Just in case I hit the switch by accident.
but thats just me.... [>:] I suppose I can be a little stubborn or perhaps cocky about things, but thats why I buy lots of glue[8D] after all,, this thread is a blast to be a part of as well, I thank you all.
I say bring on everyones 2 or 3 cents worth, it all just adds to this long, beautiful, humorous, intense thread, Whats a good thread without a little controversy anyway.

First off you sound like Bro material on the inside, Second If you put the controller in my hands I will try and 3D it, and Thirdly you can try and try and try to 3D anything (which is fun don't get me wrong), but flying a ship built for 3D is a beautiful thing.

I have a Quique Yak, a Goldberg Ex-treme profile, a Funtana 100x, a U-Can-Do, a 1/3 scale Cap, and several electric foamies. I also own 3 Twists. I will be the first one to admit that the Twist is not the easiest plane to 3D. That is exactly what I love about the Twist, and why I fly it more than any of those other planes.
You see, the Twist takes a good 100 flights to figure out how to hover. It does want to drop off one way or the other without perfect rudder and elevator management. Once you get it down, it is a real thrill to hold a 30 second hover no sweat. It is much like flying a heli, tiny movements when needed, and drastic corrections when needed.
I almost feel like I am cheating when I take out the Goldberg profile and hover it almost hands off. It get's boring after a while. The same holds true for other manuevers as well. It takes some mad skills to pull of a pretty knife edge with this beast of a Twist, but it is quite a thrill when you learn to pull it off second nature.
The deal is we like flying the heck out of our $90 planes, and we make them look like $300 3D machines. There is a novelty to it. It is great to hand the sticks off to a guy who is a whiz with a Mojo, and watch him try and hover my Twist (personal experience).
I have to admit it hurts my pride a little to have you guys come in to a thread where we we are singing the praises of our favorite plane, and have you say it is not even a real plane. There is a real tone of talking down in your posts. I am not sure you guys are intending it, but cheering on the destruction of a plane we own and love, and saying it is not even a real plane right here on a thread made up mostly of people who like them, seems like a slap in the face. I think that is why you are seeing the responses you are out of guys.
We are not all beginners who foolishly think this is the best plane since sliced bread. I personally have logged hundreds of flights on many planes, and several guys here have been flying for 20 plus years.
I can tell you for sure if I went on the Funtana 100x thread and said the plane sucks, is a trainer, and wasn't a real plane, there would be some angry guys over there. I would never do that because I respect those guys, and their choice of a favorite plane. You guys have hurt some feelings here, and I just don't see why you chose to do so.

Yeah I can see the guys face when you ask him what he thinks.[sm=52_52.gif] Dude 100 flights to get hovering down ROTFLMAO, dude the learning curve on a Twist must take forever. You do realize that 95 of those flights you could be working on rollers, and what not. Dude fly what you will, and I never said the Twist was a POS but from the sound of it you just did. Life is to short Bro time to go back to my side of the net. Sorry for the intrusion, but that is one of the better laughs I have had all day...........[sm=lol.gif]

ghee,
Now that you mention it, I think Jack would wait silently for the nay-sayers to leave or perhaps mention that they are akin to a fart in church (loud, startling, and forcing everyone to turn away in disgust). They're good for a chuckle as they profess their ignorance, but after that it's just stink. Just a guess.

Well I have owned one, and it was a stepping stone to other planes that do 3D . I can't tell you how many times people with Twist have asked me to 3d their planes. People do buy them thinking they can learn 3d.
This plane will be fun, but it will not last long down on the deck doing 3d : I don't care how good ya are.
A good 3d plane will do every thing a foamy does.
I now fly a Chin Yak, while It wouldn't be 1st on the list as a 3d trainer ( a little loose for learning) It is the plane for the 3d MASTERS. A lot of my flights I won't go higher than 30' and no more than 50' away from me. There are others that are good 3d'rs , but not the twist.
.... If I read this thread and ran out to buy one thinking it would 3d , I would be back here pissed that no one had told the truth.

I have to admit that I never thought much about hovering a Airplane all these years. And I also have to admit that If you want a plane that will hover all day the T---T is not what you want to get. I will admit that the T---T is the funnest airplanes that I have ever had and will do just about everything you are capable of doing & in 30 yrs I have had a few. But what ticks me off is a statement like this (How much does it take to convince people that the T***T is NOT a real airplane?). If they think a real airplane is one that hovers all day long they are sadly mistaken. That is called a Helicopter.

You can tell the ones that haven't read the whole thread from the ones that have. It's been said on here time and time again that this plane isn't the best choice for a 3D ship.

Then WHY is there 209 pages worth discussion about this plane?????????[sm=confused.gif] And *** is with "T****T"? or however you do it [X(]

Like I told the gentleman earlier in the thread; the Twist is what we have, the Twist is what we like, and I could give a damn if your plane flies better 3-D than my Twist. No purpose is served at all by bashing it in this thread. Go over to Club Saito and start ragging on their choice in engines ( or any other plane or engine specific thread). You will probably start a poop storm.

LOL I know there is a lot of pages to read through and I'd have to say almost 1/4 of it is us repeating to the new people all of our antics & reasons behind all the madness,, all I can say is print it out,,, or not,,, but you have to read this great book...... and then it will all make sense, maybe not,,,, thats whats great about it.....
Imagine coming into the movie The Great Waldo Pepper just as the dog fight ended,,, to see ol Waldo and Ernst flying into the sunset would make you scratch your head too.
Maybe a bad example,,, Maybe not.... again I say,, read the story before you analize
I don't know about ye'all,, but I'm laughing my butt off at all this...

Like many of the regulars on this thread we all read and write about the fun, the things we accomplished, engine and prop combos we tried, disasters, and repairs we experienced with this plane. In all of the 209 pages on this thread, no regular to this thread has said this is the "ultimate 3D" plane. So I am not sure where all of that started. The only place I have seen anything that comes close to saying the T***T is the "ultimate 3D" performer is on the Horizon web site. Maybe that is where these folks saw it and were expecting more and were mislead, but definitely not on this thread.
and so the saga continues......
and so the saga continues......

Guys,
I have been on RC universe for about a year. This site has replaced TV for me. At the end of a long hard day I sit down in my chair with my laptop, and enjoy discussing my favorite hobby with a bunch of nice guys. I have to say that 99% of the people that I have met on here are good people. When I went to visit Downtrodden in the U.P., we had a discussion on that very subject. People seem passionate about this hobby, and it is fun to discuss a common interest with people from all around the world.
Thank you motorhead, I3DFU (charming name), and JimRoss for coming on in and expressing your opinion. We welcome your opinion. I am sure the Chin Yak is an great plane. It is not so much what you say, it is how you say it. If you were to come in and say something like FYI guys, I have flown the Twist and other 3D planes, and the Twist is not that great of a 3D plane. You may want to consider the Chin Yak if you want a serious 3D machine. Just my .02.
That would be a nice way to come into a conversation. Offer your opinion in a decent way. Coming in saying "I can't believe it took 208 pages to figure out this not a real airplane," just makes people defensive. No one wants to hear that something they love sucks. If you think it sucks, that's cool, either keep it to yourself, or say so with some tact. I think we welcome all opinions, we just don't want to be made to feel like idiots. Make sense?

OHhhhhh,,,,, I'll Admit openly,,,,,, I AM an I D I O T ..... just ask my wife.. LOL,, and you know what??? I think I like it that way,,
After all,, what idiot would pile drive a plane that costs $99.00 to buy, and 1 long evening to put it together, and rather then go buy a new one, spend 3 to 4 long nights gluing splinters back together, in hopes of it flying the same way again.... I wish I had a picture of me to put right after this... LOL
Someone from our club sent me a link to a T_ _ _ T crash,,, the wing came off in mid flight and that plane was toast, He was very, very, upset, yelling and swearing as the wing took about 2 minutes to flutter all the way to the ground. I have it at home on my other computer, I will have to post the link here. He obviously has never read anything in this thread, because we have all been there, you'd think he never crashed a plane before (maybe he hasn't) But I know I would have been cheering on the wing as she glided like a butterfly all the way to the ground, I don't think any damage was done to that at all,, but the fuse looked like,,,, how shall we say,,,, hmmmm,,, like a busted box of Beebe's all over the ground.... I wouldn't have even repaired that one. Maybe he has a cheap wing for sale
LOL

Hold on folks you are about to enter the Twistlight Zone, This is the entrance to another world (pic #1), as you enter the door you will see the stairs to another dimension (pic #2), Stairs creaking on your way down you get a glimpse of the Horror (pic #3), You here a loud SCREAM [sm=eek.gif] there it is the DREADED TWIST [X(](pic #4), You run as fast as you can up the stairs (pic #5) slamming the door behind you (pic #6) & bolting it shut hoping no one ever has to see the horror you just witnessed[X(]. My son keeps asking me why we do not go down there anymore. I just say some day son, some day.[sm=what_smile.gif]
