I know the flaps should drop 1 1/2" down during crow, but how far should the Ail move up?

With that kind of power high torque servos should definitely be on your elevator and rudder.

It has been covered before, but to save a fella some trouble here it is again....Reinforce the landing gear block and surrounding balsa, or be prepared to end up with a belly landing. I greased my US60 in and just as it was settling in anddecelerating she hit a molehill rut and ripped thelanding gear right off and tore the balsa back past the wing mounting bolt block. It also helps if you mount the servos in the tail, but that is a personal call, I chose not to on the third one.

The US 60 is a great plane! I learened to fly on it, did a carrier landing with it, set it up for skis, tricycle landing gear, etc....I am now on my third one. I jus wish H9 would get rid of that awful covering so I can stop recovering it.... The pictures are L-R my first US60, the landing gear torn out, and then the second stick recovered. I would not reccomend a GMS engine, thats the .76 in the third pic. It acts as a paer wieght now. I never used the crow feature, although a fella has a video of it somewhere here on RCU..way cool!

I have purchased a ultra stik 60. LHS recommended a supertigre g90 2 stroke. After reading some of these threads, I'm a bit worried that since the instructions show a much lower range. I also, put about 8 ozs of wieght in the tail. Can someone let me know if the engine is too much and if it isn't, will the extra weight of the engine and the compensating added tail weight will overload my plane??

Thank you

The extra lead will raise the wingloading but it will still fly fine. Did you mount the servo's in the tail? That and moving the battery back might balance it without so much weight. Your 90 should be fine just don't use much pitch on the prop to help keep the speed down. I have flown mine a few times with a 13x8 on my 91 FS, coming down from a split s with the power on really makes it whistle.

No, unfortunately, I didn't move the servo to the rear, or the battery. I set it up before I read the threads. And I made mistake on the weight, it's actually over 16 ozs. Is it possible that I have the motor too far to the front. I installed according to the instructions. I am worried that with the added wing load, that I might lose them in manuvers. Do you know the best way to remove the lead which was installed with CA. I may have to take the weight off and move the batteries further to the rear, wieght I have had to add is too much.

I flew my Ultra Stick 60 with an OS91FX originally. This is a similar engine to what you have. I only had to add about 4.5 ozs to balance it. It flew pretty nice. My ready to fly weight without fuel was 7lbs 0oz. Later I modified it and went to a Saito 100. I moved the servos back and was able to keep it at 7lbs 0oz even though I had done extensive repair after a crash which always adds weight. If I were you I'd certainly move the servos back, it really isn't that hard to do. I used carbon fiber push rods which are nice and stiff. Also I didn't have to move the battery much after moving the servos. I can reeach it with my hand. But you can cut a small rectangle in the bottom of the fuse and zip tie the battery to a small piece of plywood and just glue it between the fuse spans. If you need to move or remove the battery you just cut the covering and then cut the zip ties. I flew mine with an APC 15x6 prop. It flew real nice but you still have to watch full throttle because it can go way to fast if you're not careful. I can't believe you have to add 16 ozs of tailweight. That seems like an awful lot. I just can't imagine that. I would do something to make certain I didn't have to add that much weight.
Thanks,
Barry

Yes, I can't figure out the wieght problems, unless the super tigre 90 wieghs more. I'm going to try to get the weight off with ca debonder and start moving batteries and servos to the back. Although, if it flys with the added wieght, should I really concern myself with it. I'm a novice to intermediate flyer, so, unless it is going to structurely fail, I may just fly it the way it is. Does anyone have any thoughts about this.

Thank you for your reply.

Other than flight performance I don't think the weight will be a problem. These are pretty tought airplanes. Kinda like the Jeep of airplanes. I would make sure and double/triple check your CG to make sure it is balanced per the manual. The only problem would be if you had a severe tail heavy plane. Other than that, just enjoy the plane. You can make the other mods discussed later, or as a winter project.
Thanks,
Barry

Barry, with the Saito 100 and the 15x6 prop ..did you have any trouble with gear length? I added some taller wheels...and i fly from a grass field...also picked up a 14x7 just incase. Going to finish the flaps tonight and then I'm done ..I balanced mine with the 100 ...the battery pack sits right behind the ply before you enter the fuel cavity.
Thanks
John

I fly mine with 3 1/2 foam wheels and a 15x4w all the time. I fly from grass fields and sometimes hayfields with no problems.

I fly off of a grass field and I don't have a bit of problem with the 15x6 prop. I'm using 3 1/2" wheels but I think even 3" would still be ok. This plane lands so smoothly that prop clearance with a hard landing isn't too much of an issue. I look forward to hearing how your maiden flight goes. Good luck!
Thanks.

Well the first two flights went well!!! Still in one piece ..so thats good... it really flew well...and the saito 100 ...more than enough power ..I still have some tweaking to do on the throttle and linkage..it needs to be reworked....did'nt get much flight time however before running out of gas ...although I still have the motor running pretty rich ..
Thank
John

PS what rpm are you running with your setup before flight?

Congratulations on some good first flights. Sounds like you got it working/flying good. On the Saito engines, they are set very rich on the low end jet. That is where you must lean it down the most. You can lean it quite a bit there and not have any problems. You sould be able to get at least 14 minutes out of a tank of gas. Mine does that easily.
Thanks,
Barry

OK ...Fixed the throttle linkage this past week ....and flew it this weekend ...both sat and sun...saito 100...one word WOW!!!! almost too much .. i know i know never too much but... lol. Anyway I really liked how it flew...kinda like a big trainer with an attitude..the engine performed very well..still lots of low end needle adjusting to be done..very rich at the moment after turning in @3/4 of turn in total..but I was able to maintain a good idle for landing so I'll get some more break in time with the engine before I adjust much more.
was able to grab a couple pics of a club members planes. Check em out..

I was wondering. What measurement are you using for the cg. The instructions call for one thing, however, the guys at the club are using somenthing different.
