What about a xyz 26cc engine, or the xyz 50cc(this may be to much right). These are light, so I could add a smoke system to it to add some weight. The 26cc is the same cc as the os 160. So this should be fine right.

The Xy 26 engines are made in 3 versions (as listed on the website today). All three should work but either of the 2 with the slanted spark plug I think might be a better fit in the cowl. The "A" version with the straight plug might require clearance holes. They are reported to as strong as the Zenoah or maybe a bit stronger and they are fairly inexpensive.

But if you want a bit more reserve power or to fly more non-scale maneuvers, go with what GageeBees suggests and go a little bigger, the 50/52 may be a bit much.

So what do you think about putting a Super tigre 2300 2 stroke on it. I will probably have to add a lot of nose weight. SO I might need to go with the 3250 because it is a little heavier but it will be able to pull the extra weight if I need to add any. The 2300 is only 3cc less than the recomended OS 160, and in a review they said that the 160 was actually to much power. So 2300 or 3250 super tigre?

If you're looking at 2-strokes, why don't you put in the engine the airplane was designed around the OS 160AX?

I have finally decided to go with the super tigre 2300. I will go with the OS if and only if I can find a used one for a good price. This was a last minute purchase that I just up and bought. So now and going crazy, and I have not saved for anything so I want to stay as cheap as possible and my other super tigre runs great after I finalllllly got the needles right.

I agree with MobyAl. If you're going to put a two-stroke on it, the OS is the one I'd recommend. They're not expensive at all.

unfortunately for me I do not have a high budget and a OS is still to high for me to come off of. If I can find one for about $150 then I will jump on it. We are going to have a swap meet in January so I might be able to find one there. A lot of people are putting the OS twin or the Saito radial, but I will be put out of my house if I bought one of those. Like I said my wife just up and said I could get this and I really do not want to go that far, she may never do that again

Man I wish I did not have to go to work. UPS should be here around 5 to deliver the plane. I am going to have to take a lunch break and run to the house to see it. I told my wife she better not leave the house until the UPS truck comes . I am off tomorrow so I can start putting it together. YES!!!. I can not wait to see how big this box is. OH yeah if anyone is wanting to get one they are only $289 with towerhobbies $30 coupon!!!

One of the engines that TF says use is super tigre 2300. My mind is set I am going with that. I have a super tigre now g40 with a pitts and it is a great engine( it did take me a while to set the needles though , I have picture of it in my gallery ). I have it on a great planes 40 kit corsair. Again the only way I am going to go with a OS is if I can find one for around $150. We have a swap meet here in TN next month I am going to go to it and hopefully someone my have one, if not here I come super tigre!

It get's even bigger than her as you put it together. It is a beautiful airplane.
We are putting the Saito 1.80 4-st with Keleo Creations muffler in mine.
Not sure where we went wrong on the build with mine, but the retracts (mains) only took a couple of hours total to install including the doors. After reading the reviews and entries in the thread I was very concerned about it.
Heck, about the only thing we didn't follow the instructions on was when it said to "Use a Dremel to cut a relief into the wing to insert the wheel collar/keeper for the gear door wire". Seemed like a huge waste of motion - we just bent the wires about 15-degrees where they came out of the strap. They cant back out, but if I need to remove them , I just take out the two screws holding the strap in.
All we have left to do is the throttle, elevator and tail-wheel retract servo installs. Everything else is done. Should fly mid January! Yes, we can do that down here on the Gulf coast....

I got a e-mail flyer from Tower, for the Staggerwing at $319.00, plus I used a $50.00 email discount coupon....Not a bad deal for $269.00, plus the $65.00 oversize shipping, ARGH...but still I feel a pretty good deal especially with the 3-Pay, can't beat-it...!!!

Beats heck outta what I paid when it first came out! You've saved yourself a good bit of change that you can put toward a set of retracts. Agree with you on the shipping charge, that hurts! Good luck and enjoy your new bird.

You know Hobby shops dont have to pay that shipping expense: I ordered from my local Hobby Shop, who always does their best to match the "Big Box" price, got an equally good deal, without the shipping. Ordered the retract from them too, As long as I can help keep the local hobby shop open I wont have to mail order all those little things (pks of screws, wheels, fuel) and have to wait a week

Definitely a good point. I only buy via mail order what my LHS cannot get.

Your hobby shop match towers discounts too, or they just try and get you a good deal close to the discount price. I am all about helping out LHS too but a deal is a deal. I got mine with a $30 coupon for $289.99. Still cheaper than some other people who charge $379 plus the oversized fee. Plus my LHS does not do the 3 easy pay thing

RowDog

I certainly understand your point: You gotta do what's best for you: The Shop that I support will take the Tower price then tack on like about 4 or 5 bucks on top of that (seeing as you dont have to pay shipping) it usually works out pretty well for both sides. At this stage of the economy (actually at any stage) I would never want to be responsible to own a Hobby Shop, I just try to keep in mind that these shop owners have to buy food and gas just like the rest of us.

I also just bought one of these from Tower, $319.00 with free $20.00 gift certificate. I'm also a Super Saver member and had a coupon code for $50.00 off a $300.00 order, plus saved the $9.99 shipping because it's waved for any order over $149.99.

Anyone else interested can use this stock # LRA249 for the Stag W/$20.00 certificate, and coupon code 016bf for $50.00 off which will only work if your a member, but you can buy into the club for $9.99 right now using stock # LXJD48.

I love Tower b/c the LHS would charge $379.99 plus tax, and it would be well over a $400.00 purchase.

I'm going to use the $20.00 buck certificate towards an engine now!

Does anyone remeber what the Stag sold for when it was first released?

I still got stuck with the $65.00 shipping charge, mine shipped for $335.00 so we are pretty darn close on the cost.

Did you get a free $20.00 certificate? It's not much but everything counts these days.

I remember when Tower first started charging an ovesize shipping fee it was around $35.00 on select ARF's.

I still think the oversize fee is a rip off![:@]

The plane was $319 when I bought it now it is back up to $379. I used a $30 coupon, so $319- $30 +$65 handling charge+$9= $364.97. If you had bought it when it was $319 you would of got it cheaper. Oh well...
