Gricer - you lucky dude! I just ordered my 120 size Edge 540 today but will have to wait at least 3 months until the snow clears! Of course I hate you!
Sounds like you were pretty impressed with the bird - too bad about the last landing. And that's flying on the 120 4S, eh? What servos were you using on the rudder and elevator? How were they configured?
On another note, what is your impression of the Magnum? I have seen them advertised but don't know much about them.
Good luck fixing the 540 and do let us know about the next flights.

hi gricer
16*6 is a little small for 120,and 15*8 too.on my tt91 fs i use 15*6
after break-in try to switch a larger prop
if you wont vertical and 3d keep pitch low, max 6.
rpm figure on 16*6?
regards Mirco

Hi Tfacr,
mine is a 60 size not 120 so don't get your hopes up too much... lol :-) Always go for the max rated size for your frame (if not a little over)
I'm using Futaba S3001's (ball bearing) for the airlerons, and elevator, 3003's (no bb) on the throttle and rudder. They're fairly standard kit.
I have Taileron mixed in with the airlerons and it seemed to fly fine. I used the recommended settings in the manual but found it a little sluggish so went for higher rates. I think this might change with airspeed increase after fitting the cowl.... (your thoughts/experience guys?)
Last landing will teach me a lesson for running out of juice, I'll get some plastic mounting bolts for the u/c then if somethings going to break it will be them...Just glad the prop didn't go at €20 a pop.
Hi wolf, I definately wnat to go vertical, would you say perhaps a 17*6 or 18*6 would be better?
I haven't got a tacho, should get off my but and get one though, I'd say it would be a handy tool....

Your opinion is welcome as far as Im concered, and though this is a Seagull thread I am interested in comparisons of these two planes. Its hard to get any fair comparisons, those who plunked down 275 for AW aren't likly to admit that the Seagull at 175 is in the same league. Though I haven't owned the AW, I have seen them, they are nice. I do own the Seagull, Im no expert but i think its close, very close. For those who haven't looked at the planes from this factory for awhile, time to look again, you will be supprised. ADRIAN- I don't mean to disagree with you or anything, your imputs and opinions in this thread have been very helpful to a lot of people. Thanks. Randy

My opinion is that all that is left when they both crash is balsa and twisted metal :-)

Hey Gricer - you never did tell me about your Magnum - do we need to start a new thread?
I am waiting for my 120 size Seagull ARF and will tell you what its like when it arrives.

Hi tfacr,
There's a pretty good Magnum thread under 'Extreme Speed Prop Planes'. It might be a bit out of date now but worth having a look at. You should consider buying a Magnum as they are very cheap and awesome peformers. I find that I'm shaking after ever flight they're so fast.
Now for some token Edge talk so that we don't get busted for being off topic (lol: just joking guys)
A tip for you all, when mounting a 4str in the Edge (60 size) you will find that there is a convenient cut out for the muffler but it then lands up aiming straight at the bottom part of the firewall. I found that it burnt the paint from mine and also has started charring the wood it runs so hot! but anyway, you can use a coke can and tin snips to fashion a quite light weight (and cheap) heat shield that will deflect the exhaust gasses down and out the bottom of the cowl. The weight is low enough that epoxy will hold it in place. Only a small round cutout required at the back of the cowl to facilitate.
cheers!
Gricer

thanks Gricer
I'll check out the Magnum thread.
Thanks also for the tip on the heat shield. As most of the guys (all of the guys?) are flying the 60 size 540, there might be interest when my 120 size comes in - I let you know first impressions.

Go son.... prepare to mount your battery a long way back.... maybe on the tip of the tailplane :-)
I tell you too, they're exciting to land with a heavy engine.
Fair play though, there's no substitute for cubes.

you will cry if you go 160. buy the seagull 120 then shove the 160 in. the 60 goes like smoke with a 91fx and like hell with a tuned pipe. please post pics of the wreck.

hi shorthop
instead of 160 mount a 91fx and fly with
35-40%nitro on tuned pipe.you save about 600gr of weight and the distance from mars is too low
have happy fly

Hello Adrian/Wolf/Gricer:
No luck ! After two weeks of having paid the YS now they tell me they sold my engine to someone else. Now I have to wait two more weeks for them to get the engines, and then wait for it to be delivered to me.
That was with Central Hobbies if you wonder who I was dealing with.

Hey, all the input on this forum is about the 60/90 size Seagull Edge 540. Is anyone flying the 120/180 size Seagull Edge 540 (78" wingspan)? I just bought one and was wondering.

Hi rcav8r4, very jealous, wish my car was big enough for the 120 size. I run a 120fs in my 60 size. what engine did you go for in yours and does the tail/elevator servos setup the same as on the box cover?

Man oh Man did we every have a nice day to fly today. 76 degrees and blue skys. Took a few photos of my edge today also. I have changed my avitar to one of the photos we took. I really do like this plane and I think a couple of the guys at our field are going to get one also, they really like the way mine flys. They are going to try different engine combo's then I have. My buddy is going to put a saito 100 on his.
Sorry guys but I'm glad you are not here, because I may have to share my frequency pin with you. LOL just kidding.
