Turbo,
If you change out wire lg for sheet al be aware that the sheet lg will act like an additional airfoil and can upset the flying quality of the aircraft. I had a friend do this on a much larger airplane and turned a sweet flier into a almost unmanagable monster. Try to make sure that the flat surfaces are at 0 deg. incidence.

Hi all,
Just read through this thread.
I used to have a Rascal 40 for a couple of years then sold it to a guy to use as a trainer.
He visited our site a few weeks ago and asked me to test fly my old plane as he had fitted his own radio gear.
Within a couple of circuits I had fallen in love all over again. I had forgotten just how nice this model flies and how versitile it is.
If I had to reduce my fleet of models to just one, it would have to be a Rascal.
A while back I purchased a Saito FG-36 just before the price almost doubled, with no particular plan as to what I would put it in.
So I need a home for my FG-36 and a burning desire for another Rascal.
I realise the 110 dosen't need an engine this size (I have a throttle
) , but will the firewall / airframe cope?
If any reinforcement needs doing can you give me some pointers please.
Thanks.

Hey didg. One of the guys in our club has a Rascal 110 with the FG-36 on it. He purchased the 7 1/2 in extended cowl from [link=http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/catalog.htm]Fiberglass Specialties[/link] and then made standoffs to keep the engine as close to the fire wall as possible. The stock cowl is not long enough for the F36 without being modified. As far as Performance goes, I run a g-26 with a 18-6W APC prop. The guy with the FG-36 is running the same prop. My rascal is faster since the G-26 will turn more RPM than the FG-36. However there is no comparison as far as torque. In a climb out, My Rascal has pooped out while the Rascal powered with the FG-36 keeps on climbing. Plus it sounds awesome. My opinion is it needs a higher pitch prop then the G-26 will turn. He did have to add weight to the tail to compensate for the weight of the power plant.

After about 3 years of flying my 110, I decided it was time to update. When I had the covering stripped off, I went in and added glue in the wing panels where the china builders were kind of stingy with the glue. I was surprised to see some seperation in the main spar area and wing sheeting at the center. I then gave it a good dose before recovering. Now I'm confident of its strength. I had never dumped it in or anything. However, I do yank it around with crossed up rudder and ailerons doing tight turns, knife edge, and allot of ground work like t & g's. I'm glad I got inside before it got me in the air.
Here are a few pics of my recover. Also added some 6" cub wheels for the bush plane look and work incredibly well on the grass runway.
