i have been thinking of how i am going to make the struts for my "other Rascal", and will probably use some large airfoiled shaped aluminum from K and S METALS with a carbon fiber aeroshaft epoxied inside the aluminum so i can glue some 4-40 all thread into the small aeroshaft ends. after that, maybe put 4-40 clevises on the ends so it will be adjustable if needed. a small brass or aluminum bracket bolted to the fuse and to the bottom of the wing so there will be a place for the struts to attach. i have a 1/4 scale cub that is done something like that. have not figured out how to keep the strut from trying to rotate yet. that "Rascal" project is still hanging on the wall. hopefully, i will get to that one in a few weeks so i can have it ready for the RASCAL FLYIN in Evansville.

We have one strut done. It is simple using the airfoil aluminum tuing with tabs atached to the ends and drilled for the bolts. They are simple but they look like they will work. We also put the cowling together with CA and epoxy and primed it. It is ready for paint.

Just bought a Rascal 110 today at the LHS. A blue one. The LHS owner syas he is moving to a larger location soon and has 2 left in storage. I just have to wait a couple of days for him to dig it out. I have a G-26 at RC Iginitions with Ralph being converted right now. Also bought the G-26 header from B & B. Can't wait to get started on this one. What's a good prop/fuel combo for this setup?

I use Klotz oil at 32:1 and an APC 11-6W. I like that prop because it keeps the plane slow and also seems to give increased drag at idle to slow the rascal down. But that is all my subjective opinion. Zippi has a different approach as do others. You kind of have to find what is good for you.

on my G26EI, i use a 18 x 6 wood Zinger and lawnboy32:1 mix with mid grade fuel only. the low grade fuel in this area has to much alcohol in it that will mess up the carb. i found that out from a buddy that runs a small engine repair shop, he says that prolonged use of the cheap fuel will weaken the important parts of the carb...gaskets...etc. I also tried some 115 racing fuel, but did not notice a gain in power, just a cleaner running engine and a odor that reminded of the local racetrack that i use to go to. I put alot of faith in the products that i use!!

On my Rascal I have a G 26 EI( with a CH RCXL conversion, as the Zenoah unit went south after about 15 mins.) and an APC 18/6 wide blade and it cranks up 8500 rpm. Mostly fly around at part throttle,
Cheers, Dave.

rrengineer,
I'm also running a G26 from Ralph at RC Ignitions with Pennzoil at 40:1 mix. I'm spinning a XOAR "The Sword" 18X6 white prop with red lettering. They are made with a model grade German Beech core. These props are very pretty and match the white on the Rascal.

Got my Rascal from the LHS yesterday. WooHoo!! Believe it or not I brought it home in a Honda Accord Coupe. Just fit through the trunk into the back seat with the seat backs down. A little wrangling to get it back out. The LHS owner sold me JR DS821 servos to use for the Rascal and insisted it need a split elevator, so I bought one "reversed" servo to put on a "y" servo connection. Anyone seen the need for two elevator servos?

there is no need for 2 servos on the elevator of the Rascal 110. i have been flying mine pretty hard for over a year now and have had no issues with that servo. had a aileron servo go south in flight on me once and was able to get it back safely. just use a good servo, not a standard, on it and you will be fine. i used a hitec hs605bb on my elevator.
here is a link to a video one of my flying buds took of my Rascal 110 flying.

hope this was some help to you

Thanks guys for the info. I'm using the JR DS 821 and a 6 volt receiver battery pack. With the 6 volt pack this JR servo gives 88 in/0z of torque. Probably enough for the single elevator setup I'd say. One awesome video Eric. I only wish I could get to that level of expertise in my flying. Maybe I will just use the reversed servo with my RC Guys Agwagon split elevator setup that is next in line for building.

Sounds like a great event, and only about a half day drive from me. I may have to mark this one on my calander and give it some consideration. I recently aquired a Rascal 110 that had the nose knocked off. So I rebuilt the nose and set the firewall back 2 1/4" and installed a Ryobi 31. The Plane balances perfect with the servos in the tail. I almost have it ready to take out and fly since being repaired. The fellow who bought it new had an XYZ 26 on it and I maidened the Plane for him when he first got it. The XYZ 26 seemed to pull it around pretty good...so I am hoping the Ryobi 31 does just as good. After he knocked the nose off the Plane he made me a really good deal on it since he had another one at home new in the box. The one I got from him is the red/white version and the one he is putting together now is the blue/white version. Perhaps I might talk him into taking a little trip with me in July. Here are a few photos of my Rascal 110 during repair and after I got it finished up.

TripleDeucer,
I'm sorry you wont be able to make it to the event. We had a lot of rain in a short period of time yesterday that caused a lot of local flooding but it cleared off in the afternoon and the water went down.
ckangaroo70,
The Rascal 110 is looking good and I hope you and your buddy can make it to our event. We already have a lot of Rascal 110's coming to the fly-in so the more the merrier. [link=http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmart.exe/MainMenuFV4.html?E+Sig]Sig Manufacturing[/link] has posted our fly-in on their website so that should generate a lot of interest as well.

Have you guys ordered the good weather yet? We installed a new 2.4 reciver in my rascal and trimmed it yesterday and sweat our butts off, not to mention the baking of the top of the head. Plan flew great, just waiting for July 11th. Sounds like there is going to be a good turnout, I'm really looking forward to it.

Gary,
The weather should be nice (Please) and the food will be hot. Just needs some hungry Rascal 110 flyers to tear into it
. I know Eric can handle a burger or two. Dave T. andI were at the field this morning tweaking out our Rascal's and everything looks good. It was in the low 90"s here today and it was indead a hot one but it's funny how when your doing something you really enjoy the heat just seems not so bad. I am with you and cannot wait for the Rascal 110 fly-in to get here. I'm looking forward to meeting some ofthe guys that have never been to the Evansville site.

I installed the "Ralf Cunningham" rebuilt G26 Sunday morning and flew the Rascal Sunday afternoon. What a great job Ralph did. The new ignition works great and the crank replacement is flawless. It was also my 1st day of reletive calm flying to check the new flaps. Guys she floats like a butterfly. With almost no headwind she all but stops in the air. I have the elevator set so that at full flaps and the throttle at idle she slowly drops. Yhe altitude is easily controlled by adding throttle to slow the descent. At idle she floats in as graceful as she looks.
