i see people recomending putting epoxy around the landing gear area?im assuming it need to be put all along the inside but how are you doing it without making a big mess it looks to be pretty hard to get down into the bottom??

I use a Q-tip and cut off one end,,, BUT, I have also just used a long piece of scrap wood also,, OR,, you can glue two pieces of scrap wood together to make like an elbo thing, and you can hit every part of that landing gear block,, it works fabulous..

You can always create a little Shim to put behind the Drivers side engine mount to give it a little right thrust,, but like TimC says you can usually just angle the motor right on the mounts. good luck and let us know how the maiden goes.

How important is it to have an angle in the motor?

the thrust angle (offset angle) is to compensate for torque that the engine produces. as you face your plane, the engine rotates counter clockwise, and the offseting torque goes just the opposite direction. left to it's own, the plane ( with the engine mounted inline with the center axis of the fuselage would have a tendency to pull in that direction. By mounting the engine at an angle, it can compensate for that torque by pulling at a slight opposing angle. . .
does that help?
PS: some scratch built planes of the day had offset built into the vertical stabiliser to acheive the same effect. some motor mounts now have it built in also. . .

How does the Twist do in 10-15 mph wind? Does it do alright or does it take the fun out of it?

The fun is just begining at 10 - 15 she'll handle 25 and above if you so desire to do so the wind is your friend,, airplanes like wind,, it may get a little tricky in a cross breeze landing in high winds, but the challenge and fun is at its best then... I think so anyway..

I remember reading of people putting the OS 61 in the T___T. I can't find the thread. Do you use the stock enging mounts?
Thanks

Downtrodden,,,[X(][X(] Great to hear from you, you had me worried there...

Calcomputers, welcome to the thread,, I think those 61 users are using the regular stock mounts for the 61, I'm sure they will let you know, I think they have shaved just a tad off the inside edge of the mounts with a dremmel, not to much, just a few hairs... I haven't saved my money for the 61 yet but I'm working on it,, right now I just jammed my 70 4 stroke in there. I really want the 61 though... hopefully this year,, there is so much one wants to buy in this hobby though...

Calcomputers, I have the .61 FX and I used the stock mounts. You have to shave some of the meat off of the inside of the mounts and trim down the "trusses" that run from the vertical bars down to the engine rails. It took a while to mount the engine because I didn't want to shave too much off the mounts. Dremel, fit, dremel, fit, dremel, you get the idea. I was starting to get a bit concerned about how much material I had to remove but it works fine.

I did break my first set on a perfect three point landing: 1- left wing tip, 2- left main wheel, 3- spinner. Can you say, STALLED IT!. I picked up a second mount and did the same thing to it. It has many flights on it and still going strong.

You will love the .61 on it. It's a blast!

Yeah, Yeah, double post

Got a good bit of flying in today. Burned a tank thru the T _ _ _ t. Hard to believe how the .61 sips the fuel. I guess when you fly half throttle and less most of the time it does that. Anyway....I was trying to do tail touches on the concrete "runway" that I use and I would always chicken out at the last minute. It sure was fun flying low and slow tho. Harriers nicely with that cg back around 5 1/4". I'm starting to get more brave with it so I can se a rebuild coming soon. HaaaaHaHaHaha.

Later T _ _ _ ters!!

Good job and yes low and slow is very cool, we too had a great Saturday of flying, they predicted high winds and rain so we all went out there and of course what a beautiful day it was ,, No wind,, got a little sunburn but we flew for about 4 hours, we did a couple of formation flights with 4 of us also,, what a blast,, I haven't really tried too many crazy things like usual,,, well except for trying to fly 1 foot away from 3 or 4 other planes at the same time at high speed with my T_ _ _ T as I'm trying to make it last out this season, but now thats almost over so its time to get to the grind... [>:] I need to be hovering with the tail on the grass before the end of this season, and the video to go with it.[8D]

I'm training 3 people right now and I think possibly 2 more newbies next week, so I don't get too much stick time for myself,, but I'm having a great time anyway. and so are the trainees,, the only thing bothering me is holding in the trainer button for so long,, I start to get cramped,, usually you have to save the plane a few times so that offers some push button relief, but these guys are pretty good, so I'm just a button holder for most of the flight. I'd rather have it that way though for sure, dang kids are good at everything today.... LOL it took me almost a year before my 1st successful take off / flight / and landing. and trashed many planes along the way. Ahh the beauty of a trainer cord and trainer. wish I had that growing up and a few Simulators to boot...

Use your fingers. I have been flying for 30+ years & have never used anything but my fingers. There handy & always there (unless you stick them in a spinning prop)

JDKEXTREME you have read almost every page,, wow [X(] I'm impressed,,, thats a hell of a lot of reading. are you talking about part 1 too, this is the 2nd part of this thread, after 200 pages they split the thread up.

Good luck on your maiden,, have a blast ,,,,,I'd say the 11x4 also with the 46,,, balancing with the fingertips is a fine way to do it, I'm with 2hi2c on that, I also have been balancing planes for over 30 years on my fingertips,, However I did break down and buy a balancer last year just because it was something else to buy for the hobby LOL

Camoman I'd say anywhere from 4.5 on up to 5.25 seems to work great,, everyone here seams to have their own special flavor, I'm fond of the 4.75

I agree that of the two props available, the 11x4 would work the best. I'd sure switch to a 12x4 or a 12¼x3¾ as soon as possible. Balancing with the fingertips will work fine. Put some masking tape on the top of the wing next to the fuse at the chosen balance points, mark the points with a sharpie then flip the plane over and check the balance. I'm of the 5" persuasion.
After two years of little work, I'm heading for the great state of Nevada tomorrow to start a new job. There is a nice big dry lake south of Boulder City where the locals fly. I'll try to get some photos when I make it out there. Good luck on the maiden tomorrow jdkxtreme.

Long time reader, first time writer
I just wanted to share my story.

I started with a Nextstar, moved to a Flatana (foamy), and then got a Stryker 27C. Something was missing... I needed the smell of Nitro in an aggressive plane.

Next came the research and comparisons that led me to the T---t and this thread (which I've spent months reading; both parts) Any who, I got the T---t 40, O.S. 55AX,12.25x3.75APC, Sullivan tail wheel,3004s ,and so on. All due to the input of everyone here.

Weeks went by on the assembly--Balancing family, job, work on the house, etc. Then the day came, after already breaking in the motor, it was time to maiden at the field last Monday. Awesome! It does fly better than a trainer and doesn't take a football field to land. I just can't get over how fun this plane is. I see why there is so much enthusiasm for it and the size of this thread. Yesterday, while working on the soffit, I left the plane in the yard. I would take 4-8min flights, land, and then go back to work. What a blast.

I want to express my gratitude and thanks to Adam G,Ghee-grose, Downtrodden, Waldopepperaxel(master rebuilder), Dutchalltheway, TimC, 2HI2C, and the many, many others on this thread.

I need to goto Nevada too i'm a native of that state. California sucks for work.Well at least here were i live it does. And lately the flying isnt that great to much fog and overcast. But finally got the TVV!$T to Hover that was cool. And my private flight field is starting to get a little crowded with spectators everytime i go fly. Ahh the peacefull days i'm going to miss them. I swear there must be a lookout on my flight field somewere that informs everyone that i'm out there flying.

Wouldnt be so bad if they would get themselves some planes to fly with me. That would be cool i wouldnt mind sharing the field with other who want to fly and enjoy the hobby as i do. I got my TVV!$T up to at least 800 feet or more, I was tryin to see how high i could go. Before it would quit, my thinking is the higher you go the less dense the air will be. So the engine will eventually die from to lean a mix or rich forgot witch it is now. Didnt quit ran like a champ love this Plane.

But apperently that wasnt a good Idea aperently the plane can been seen from quite a long distance, Even though after i got it up there it looked like a spek. And a few minutes later there was a fleet of cars coming out there to see what i was doing. At least they were smart enough to stay far enough away till i landed the plane then at least 5 people come up asking all kinds of questions. How fast will it fly? What kind of engine is in it? ect ect what ype of fuel do you put in it? ect ect.

Well i guess i shouldnt have expected it to stay a secret forever. Really annoying though. Instead of answering there questions i asked if they had computers and all of them said they do and internet. So i just Politely told them goto Hangar 9 on the internet or rc universe and type in TVV!$T 40 60 150 and all there questions would be answered about the wonderful plane & the exciting Hobby. Everything they want to know is at there finger tip on the world wide web many different plane to choose from.

Was i wrong for being that way?

Keep On TVV!$Ting

a most hearty welcome to the fold, THEW. . . .
yes, this IS "THE" plane for serious fun sport flying fanatic. . . .and as you have read, it's the best bang for the buck out there. . .
It (they, since i have 2) is the most fun I've had since I started flying, just over a year ago. I had to get past "second plane" jitters, and had planned on it being a long time before my T___Ts would ever get flown. But thanks to guys like TimC and other "old timers" on this thread, I got the Huevos to put one up, and now my trainer is just something to take up space in the back of my pickup so the T___T won't flop around in the back. . .
so keep on flying, and have a blast. be prepaired for the fuselage fix (it's inevatable) and continue to post on your excitment. . . we love to read about it. . .

Jdkxtreme, I thought I was the only one crazy enough to read the entire thread. Yep, first part too!! Lots of great info and great folks in here.

Camoman, I prefer 5 1/4" now. I started at about 4 1/4"- 4 1/2" and later moved it back. Now it harriers like mad but you have to fly it to the landing. Mucho Fun! I used my fingers for a while but found sometimes I needed to move something or needed an extra hand. I made a simple "CG machine" out of a 2X4 some holes drilled at a slight angle and pencils with big erasers on 'em. Just guessing here but total cost around $1. Good luck on the maiden. let us here how it went.

Thew, Glad you are having fun with the new T _ _ _ t! It quickly became my favorite plane.

Welcome aboard guys. Hang out and share your stories, good or bad. Most of all have fun T _ _ _ ting!![sm=teeth_smile.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

Yes welcome aboard Thew, I tell you guys who have read the whole thread, [X(]God bless you,, If I didn't go along as it went along I don't think I could do it, LOL Its a lot of info to take in, but the stories do make for some pretty entertaining and comical reading inbetween all the info you can get from this thread, The people on here are great and know what they are talking about, You can't buy better information. this is all just pure experience talking to you here.

Link,, I don't think you were wrong at all, it can be quite overwhelming to be asked question beyond question on some days when you just wanted to go relax and have some peace of mind with you and your bird, I think not only did you handle it well, unless you just chased them all away with dive bombing runs[>:][:@] but by giving them that information you may just see some of them back with their own planes. after all,, this is an Addiction[>:]

TimC Congrats on the new job,, thats always exciting, well at least different,, LOL,, I wish you the best of luck also with the change of scenery, and like Downt said, we are looking forward to the pics of the new field site also.
