The strut mods sure dress it up nice! Touch those screws on the gear doors with some white paint, will you?!

I'm still looking for the safty red Rustoleum paint locally. []

Here's a pic with the brass tube inside the front gear doos that vents my case. It keeps the inside of the cowl a lot cleaner.

Yes sir Bob, will do! LOL, I have been meaning to do that. I think I will vent my 82 with fuel tube down to a lower part of the cowl, but up front. Jon

The brass tube is thru the fire wall and out the bottom. I just plug fuel tubing into it inside the cowl. The front gear doors hide it.
I made the servo slots in the wing smaller also. As I remember, you could've put servos in without removing the hatch. You can see one in the pic.

These are going to look nice in the air! I can't wait! We have to post some vids also!

Jon, I have the Modeltech P47 as well. Great flying plane. What engine do you have in yours? They build really tail heavy, so I stuck a Magnum 1.20RFS in mine. I figured more engine vs. lead up front would be best. Fast plane, lands nice and slow.

Okay, back to the topic, what's the part number for those robart strut covers?

I pretty sure they're using the #103 for 60 size aircraft.

cruzomatic, I looked at my order history on TH and here is what it says: Robart 104 Trike Gear Strut Large

Regarding the P-47, we have similar interests huh!? Cool, I know it is supposed to fly great. I put an OS 91 Surpass II pumped engine in mine, and it balanced perfect. I lucked out on the T-28 too. With the Saito 82, mine balanced right on the recommended CG. I get to maiden both of these birds in the weeks or months ahead! Looking forward to low and slow with the T-28, and low and balls to the wall with the P-47!! Jon

OOPS![sm=red_smile.gif] My bad. I was looking at my set for my P-40. The T-28 has a nose wheel, doesn't it?
I'll shut up and mind my own biznet.

No worries Bob. Thanks though.

Yeah Jon, you'll like that P47. Not sure why you have to wait so long to fly them both. Sunny skies and 65 degree temps here in Texas.

65F!!!! Banana Belt! We got 42F right now headed to 50F. Might fly something else after noon.

AUW=7lb 3oz on my T-28. What about everyone else? To me it feels real light for a plane this size. Jon

Mine weighed 7 lbs, 7-1/2 oz. before the crash/rebuild. Haven't weighed it since.

maukaonyx,

Your T-28 is to pretty to fly. Might as well set it up as a static display and let everyone drool over it!

maukaonyx,
I have to agree with Clay....that plane looks great!
I believe the Robarts struts for this plane are the 104's......at least I hope it is as I bought a set but have yet to install them. Aside from that, I just have to check the CG and she's done. I've run about 2 tanks in the 72 so far, so she's almost ready.
What are the "shocks" that join your gear doors to your struts?

DHC, those are the same strut covers that I used and they fit real nicely. Your T-28 is looking good...I like how your muffler shows very little, and only on the bottom. The "shocks" that connect my gear doors to the struts are some leftover aileron control horns from some old plane. I think a nylon clevis would work as well.

Thanks guys for the compliments! Jon

PS: pic of a change I made today to the cowl. Matches a pic that balsabuster shared back on page 18. Jon

Mauk, don't forget the hole on top of the cowl for access to the high speed needle.

Great looking plane,,

Jon,
Looks like mine on page 15.
Hit the gloss black with some flat Lusterkote. It'll keep the glare out of the pilots eye's.

I should have remembered you did that, Bob! Jon

Cruzo, my needle valve extension sticks out the bottom of the cowl near the nose landing gear. Jon

Couldn't help myself...those big holes in the front of the cowl were begging for some treatment!

Before:

AFTER:

I now have the world's first 6 cylinder Saito 82, haha. It was fun. Last night, my son got a good photo of my engine for me, resized and printed it (not as easy as it sounds for a dunce like me). Today I mounted it on 1/32" ply, fuel proofed it, and mounted it (5 separate pieces) with fiberglass cloth and resin. I like the effect it has. I tried to do the photo chopping myself on a real radial engine photo, with no success. Jon

Mauk, okay, now it's official, you are way out of control. That plane is way too nice to fly. Put it away, hang it from your ceiling (nice room) and get to working on that Extra 300 you have in the background there and fly that one.

Geezzz,

Also, what plane do you have hiding under the pool table? Didn't think we would notice huh?

cruzomatic, nope all my planes fly...they don't just hang around, but thanks for the nice words. Yeah, I had a lot of fun with this plane the last 5 weeks, not too much out of control, I think, lol. Oh, the plane under the pool table is a 50cc Extra 330L, waiting in line to be finished. It's just so much easier and cheaper to finish a smaller plane like the T-28 or that new GP Extra 300...you have a good eye. Did you recognize the bigger box under the Extra 300 box? Another ARF in waiting, a Cox Pitts M12 that was on super clearance around Christmas. Now, I admit to being outta control when starting in November 08, I bought the T-28, then a Nitro Yak 54-69", then the Cox Pitts M12, then got the GP Extra last week. (Parts of all of them are in that pic with the pool table.) Ran amok in a good way, haha! I have an understanding wife for sure! Jon

Don't blame you for wanting to fly that T-28, it's probably one of the nicest one here on the board, if not the nicest one no doubt.

I did notice the other plane you have under the Extra 300 box, it's a Cox Pitts huh? That one will surely fly nice as well. A buddy of mine has a Cermark Pitts that I've flown and it handles everthing well. He just installed a Magnum 1.80RFS in it and made it even better. Sounds like you have quite the collection of planes for not being in this madness of a hobby too long. Great you have an understanding wife. I probably buy a couple of planes a year, been flying 9 years now,,,,okay maybe I buy more than a couple a year. Wife just kind of ignores my hobby, she doesn't show much interest in it.

Also noticed the dart board, the two alien looking dudes on the back left shelf there and the coaxial electric heli. We have a lot in common.

By the way, have you ran in the engine on the 28 yet?

Actually I've been in this hobby a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. Still have my first radio, a Futaba escapement radio that was $40 back then. It is a hobby to last a lifetime. I love it as much now as I did back then in the 60's! I didn't get new planes for awhile, just flew my old planes a long time, but I when I retired two years ago, I turned myself loose to get new planes and enjoy my time. Thus, the new planes I mentioned, plus the Modeltech P-47, Excelleron 50, and a Tower 40 trainer for my son and fun flys.

So, I did one last mod (sure) yesterday on the T-28. I reversed the red and white on the top of the fin and rudder, per the pics we have seen of the real bird. I won't bother to post that. Jon

Just curious, I was flipping through the manual and did not see a tamplate for a four stroke engine. Is there one or do you use the two stoke template.
