reaper needs to understand. mrjones lives in the bronx. That is a very populated area and even early in the morning there are people around. just because you can fly proficiently on a sim donst mean squat. My 3 year old nephew can fly fairly well on the sim. Gee, maybe i should go to a PUBLIC place and give him the radio. yeah thats smart. And no, the AMA isnt strong in me. the only reason i am in the ama is so i can be in the club i am in. What i am saying comes from experience, you just cant go from a sim to flying with no problem.

This is what reaper329 has to say in another thread.

I HAVE CRASHED ALMOST ALL OF MY PLANES BUT I ALSO FLY ON THE EDGE OF THE ABILITY OF THE AIRCRAFT AND THAT IS WHAT I LOVE I DIDN"T BUILD THEM TO LOOK AT THEM I BUILD THEM TO FLY YE HA!

YOU DO SNAP ROLLS 6 INCHES OFF THE DECK(MADE IT 5 TIMES on the 6th I ate it) AND TELL ME YOUR NOT GOING TO CRASH

I SUFFER FROM WHAT I LIKE TO CALL (I KNOW CAN DO IT)
I guess this is why we should all listen to him about safety and flying in a baseball field with or without people around. Sure everybody can try to teach themselves how to fly, but isn't it cheaper and safer to have someone help you. Flying balls out when you probably know you are going to crash (see above) isn't the best way to learn.
Damn you guys. Now I'm invlived and I was really trying not to be. I hate myself now.

How he flys has nothing to do with this. He never told anybody to do this nor did he say where he did it or if anybody was around while doing it. It's just silly to bring this up to try and make him look bad. Silly.

Ok. How about this one.
Don't give up the hobby because you are worried about killing someone.
I would give up the hobby if I was worried about killing someone.

This is because it happens no matter who is flying or helping you, if you feel good go for it
I feel really good when I'm drunk.......

You missed the point. The point was that it's a safe hobby not that he doesn't care about killing somebody.

Strike 2 Dude. You should stop now before you get in any deeper.

I don't even know what the heck your point is with being drunk.

I agree with Mike on this one,

Reaper was encouraging me to fly it in a park. Maybe I will crash, maybe I won't but what I have experienced in RCU is that a lot of RC fliers learned this way. They didn't have
an instructor teaching them how to fly as well as RTF's and ARF's they built a plane from a kit flew it and that was it. I just met someone from my area who is going to learn
with me. We are going to learn from an instructor and that's going to be the end of it.

Now Sean are you saying that you know how crowded my park is at 6:00am? from MA?? and I live right across the street from it which I pass it everyday? I respect your R/C airplane knowledge but I doubt that you do, Even if you lived in New York in the past.

Thanks for all of the encouraging words but I can assure everyone that I will not kill anyone in a park with a trainer....

Don't you think if you are worried about killing someone, you shouldn't fly? I do. If you're worried about crashing your car when you drive, you should stop driving, or have someone help you learn?

Maybe I should explain a little more for the people who didn't get it the first time.

Again, if you feel good then go for it (come on read the quote, you can do it). Hence the drunk reference.

Maybe I should stop now before I get any deeper into being right.

DownSideUp, you're taking his words out of context. That's a big no-no. Let me give you an exmaple about myself...

I do NOT worry about killing anybody when I fly because I'm in the middle of nowhere and there's nobody to worry about in miles. Now somebody comes along and says, "Hey Mike is bad because he doesn't worry about killing people." That's kinda silly don't you think.

I kicked my dog once. Did you want to bring that up too? Everybody should stop driving right now and never drive again.

i dunno mike. this thread has gone south enough that its getting dumb. when the slander starts rolling in, it gets WAY off topic then there is no point in arguing any more. better to call it quits then to stress the stupid stuff. i know whats right and wrong here, and arguing for the wrong calling it right is just wrong (say that 10x fast! )....i need to find me a new thread to argue over.....
i'll still keep up with this one though. if a mod dosnt shut it down soon.

Come on mods, how much must we indure here? I think the original subject has been adressed, and the topic has gone about as far South as it needs to. It's dead, put it out of it's (and our) misery!

In conclusion, just use your head,
There is no comparison between flying out in the "sticks" (as we call it), and flying in the Bronx.

here is my second post to you ,flying a R/C plane is not like a sim. the only thing that they have in common is familiarizing yourself with the controls thats it ,any novice should try to find someone who has some experience with flying, the plane wasn't cheap and unless you have allot of disposable cash you should go out of your way to find a AMA field where someone can give you some basic tips even if only once its not the take offs that hurt its the landings I am just getting back into the hobby myself after along layoff and most guys will be more than willing to help out I drive 35 min. to my club field and its worth every min. because my plane is in one piece and the help I have gotten has helped immeasurably certainly during your first actual flying experience

You are right bigtim,

Here in New York a 35 min drive will get you about 6 miles depending on what day it is. For me to go to the field it takes about 2 hours one way and about 2 hours on the way back, 4 Hours is a long time driving. I will honestly do it the RIGHT way and fly with an instructor at least 5 times so I can get the feel of real flying. I have the controls down pretty well and I will no doubt do well because I have been working on it for more then a year.

I think you should be able to get a good feel for flying in five trips depending on how fast you pick it up, that is a wise descision, but try not to leave too long between each trip as it feels like 5 steps forward 3 steps back if you leave too long a gap.

I agree cougar,

I will try to do them consistently every weekend fives times with some flight sim in between trips. Even if I pick it up after my third or fourth time I will still go to complete the five trips. I can work on different things like spot landings, cross winds and flying the plane inverted. Even when I master my trainer I will fly my tail dragger and the trainer for some time until I get started on some prop jets.

I've read both of your threads and first let me say welcome to a great hobby.... I realize your goal seems to be flying turbines (a great goal), However after reading your posts it seems that you might be under the impression that all it takes (besides the money) is learning to fly a trainer and then you'll be ready for a "prop" jet and then maybe a DF model and then a turbine.

I think you will find that most of the turbine pilots had a lot of experience flying many types of non turbine models before they were skilled enough to enter that segment of the hobby. I'm not in any way bashing you .

I woud suggest going to the jet forum (if you haven't alrady) and asking those guys to give you and idea of how experience they had before they got into turbines

BTW Since when is the number of posts an indicator of intelligence level?

If I have flown for twenty years and just got into the computer and threads then I may not have 12,000 posts but I know more than anyone else...and vice versa...I may have tons of book knowledge and never flown a plane. Whether it's real or not, answer, help of please be quite. Opinions are wonderful things and can be helpful, but they can be detrimental as well.

I agree Crashem,

It's a wonderful hobby and the funny thing about it is I wanted to fly a model plane since I was a kid. I always got the electric ones that didn't fly well when I was a kid at that time I just gave up. When I became an adult, (Of course in some instances a child at heart) I got interested on flying again so I went out and found people with the same interests and "presto" I got into the hobby....Long story short I'm glad I'm here.

Yes, I have goals in the hobby as well, I think direction is important and I realize I'm not going to fly a Turbine next week or next year. It will take me some years into the hobby, (I'm actually trying to tell a person not to fly a turbine plane without some experience first check it out: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_19..._3/key_/tm.htm ) I try to collect as much information on the subject as I can and I will continue to do so. When I make an attempt on turbines I will be well informed.

To fly a turbine and be covered by the AMA insurance you must obtain a turbine waiver. If you do not have one and cause an accident while flying a turbine, you will not be covered. Further you could be subject to civil or criminal penalties. Tell that to your friend.

wow I dind't mean to start a war lol. I am so glad flyer's are still writing in the post. Well I have been flying a lot and not on the computer. I did't mean tell him to be reckless at all and that is not what I told him to do. I'm sorry if my approach is different but it doesn't make it wrong. I also stated that is what he should do if he had no one to help him. The area he is in sounds like it is more crowded that I thought, when he said he had to baseball diamonds to fly in, with that said I also stated that he should use his head. Meaning if he has a gym size flying area he and for that matter nobody should try flying it. Because it might lose radio and kill a kid, hell it might even deliver a pizza but on a serious note if there is not enough room he should look else ware. Everyone seams to be interested in my flying, I have crashed almost all of my planes some other facts to think about. 1 I put huge motors on all my planes why, because I can and like it. 2 I fly close to the ground why because I can and I like it. I hover and grip the plane and let it go in front of people (really Stupid huh!) why because I like it and so do the people I fly with. I also do snaps on the deck and know only a hateful of people who can do it clipping grass with wing tips(you only learn this one way). One thing don't do is hit kids or kill anyone imagine that flying out of the box and not a murder. Anyway I hope you got to fly your plane and I hope you understood my point!!!

PS copy and paste this (IF your not crashing your not flying!!!)
