HEADS UP GENEROUS FOLKS...........THERE IS A DARK SIDE TO P.I.F. !

For 3 months I followed the DESPERATE PLEAS in these Forums of a youngster who wanted to have a plane and a glider .
I provided both a Trainer and a Glider, both NIB complete with engine + Radio
A Club was researched, an Instructor was provided, a training person was found for Glidering.
After JUST ONE FLIGHT the young man writes that he will no longer do "glow" or "gliders" but will just concentrate on Electrics.

This POST serves the purpose of advising the" generous hearts" that DEEP RESEARCH and EVALUATION of the selected GRANTEE should be seriously attempted in order to not WASTE precious resources and even wads of MONEY on ungrateful, superficial, immature, mostly mindless dreamers. Remind them also that this part of the Hobby demands great dedication in TIME, MONEY and EFFORT. That it is NOT a casual five minute enterprise. Doing otherwise is just a total waste.

I regret the content of this POST but feel it is necessary to post a HEADS UP

while i agree that it was pretty wasteful, you dont suppose he decided that he could not afford to maintain a glow motor or that he simply did not like un-powered flight? you will never know until you try...
you should ask him to donate back what he will not use to PIF.

Bubbagates,
i appologise, it completely slipped my mind. before i went to install all the radio gear you gave me, i wanted to make sure that i would have a buddy box available at my club that could opperate with a JR master, and i regret to say that it was just recently i was able to make it up there, (for the first time in at least 6 months. we had had winds and rains and i was forced to go to a public field instead) only to find out that the JR buddy box no longer works, and i can't find the trainer cord plug on the century 7. the problem is that our club is primarily futaba/hitec, so i fear i will be unable to use the TX/RX that you gave me, although the servos are universal, so i can use them. I will give it a couple more months to see if their buddy box is replaced/repaired, but if not i will probably end up donating it back to PIF. I appreciate your generousity, and appologise that i was un-able to put it to use as i had hoped, although there is still possibility.

J3FAN, as is the theme with this thread, since the person who had the glider and plane donated to him no londer has a use for then as they are not electric, shold they not be "payed forward to the next individual who is in need? That is kind of a piss off, since there are probably a ton of people that would love ot have either of those models donated to them and they will probably get SOLD to another club member or a local pawn.

Clam,

No big deal on the radio. I never used it myself with the exception to make sure it took a charge and operated the receiver as expected with servos hooked up.

I would love to see it get put back into this thread if it ends up going that way for you.

J3Fan,

I am sorry to hear that had happened to you. I wish I could find a way to stop this osort of thing but hey, it's all part of life.

Hello guys.

First, let me say that this is tremendous. I've read almost every post in this thread and there are some awesome people out there!

I’m relatively new to the hobby and I’m flying electrics for now. I’m active-duty Air Force, and entered this hobby because my teenage sons expressed an interest. I’ve got to say that it’s been a great way to spend time with them when I’m home, but learned quickly that it’s an expensive hobby.

Anyhow, we have one plane now and share time. I’m hoping to get two more ARF/RTF’s (no time to really build…) from Tower’s scratch & dent section before summer, so …

I’m looking for a couple of 4- or 6-channel radios. I’m not really worried about condition (as long as they work) or brand name, though trainer cord ports would be nice. If you’ve got anything like this you don’t need/want, I promise we’ll put it to good use.

Thanks for your time!

Campy,

I am interested in the PZL P.11.c and the Super Sportster 90-120 if they are still available.

Please advise.

Ok, I finally did it. Was at the local flying field. Fired up my lil swizzle stick. Went to fully extend the antennae, and Pop! Out came the last section. Now that Ive made my confession. Would anyone have an extra Futaba Ant laying around?[&o]

All the plans are gone.

The majority of them went to Marwen. If you pm him, he may be able to help you out with them.

Speaking of plans, I work as a blueprinter- Large-format digital reprographics. If anyone has plans that they need multiple copies of, I will donate the time and supplies if you send 'em my way, then I'll send them back to you (maybe keep a copy for myself?) I could even scan the plans and give you a digital file of the scan-

Hi Paul:

Is this your place of business or do you just work there?

Both. I'm the production manager, and for the time being sole employee on site, so I have a little leeway. Besides, the supply cost to me is very minimal, so I can absorb it- and my cost for scanning plans and converting to a digital file, which can then be emailed, is zero- just my time.

Just thought I'd see if anyone needed help disseminating plans.

Check with Marwen (Moderator) about a PZL plan. I believe he has one in a 40 size.

As a new R/C pilot (Well, not yet really. I still haven't flown my new NexSTAR yet.) I just wanted to applaud you for this incredible idea. With luck it will help bring members into this hobby. There are some incredibly generous people out there, and I hope to donate sometime. Sadly, I won't be in a position to be able to do that for awhile. Heh, after spending all of my money, plus some, on my NexSTAR I don't even have enough, or close to enough, considering that I am in debt at the moment, for an AMA membership or a club membership. I was hoping to make my first flight on May 1st, but it doesn't look like that will be happening. In fact, I just crunched the numbers and it seems I will be in debt for the next several months. [] Too bad AMA memberships can't be donated. I suppose this long delay will give me the chance to practice in the simulator even more though. [] Heh. Oh well. Keep up the good work, perhaps when I move on to larger planes and have some spare parts I will be able to help with this idea.

I need a four star 40 wing. I am saving up for fullscale lessons and can't buy one. I crashone needing repairs would be fine and just anything. Even an uncovered one would be fine.

When my brother and I were younger, all we could afford was the occasional magazine - no plane. When we finally did save up for a plane, it met an untimely end before ever making it to the field (my poor mom fell down the stairs with it). So I am deeply moved by your generosity and applaud those willing to help out fellow enthusiasts. And I look forward to a time that I can pass on more than just my opinions!

Buzz,

I am sure in time you will be able to follow the theme of this thread. It never has to be monetary. I have personal provided trainer setups complete with radio so another member had something to train people with and have received video showing the setup in action.

It's great to hear things like this. This is from someone who received a complete trainer setup from another member way back at the beginning of this thread which was posted earlier today and I quote

HI all,

Im not new to this forum. I just want to take some time and explain how my flying is going. HAving mastered the trainer, im on the quest for obtaining three signatures that qualify me as a solo. TOday i found the second instructor and got my membership cared signed. THe third one will probably next week. THis day has been my greatest flying day to date. I had the best luck with the weather. THe forecast said that it will rain all day, but to my surprise, not a cloud in the sky. I told my parents to drop me off today, because it will be a great day. And what a great day it was! Having not gone to the field in a while due to poor weather conditions, i came today and saw something beautiful. THe trees were green, and the landing strip was SMOOTH, GREEN, AND FRESHLY CUT GRASS. My instructor came in late, like always, but i already prepared for starting the engine before. HE brought his BEAUTIFUL P-51 WWII Mustang. It was very well built and i couldn't wait to see it in the air. GOt a few flights down, all solo. My instructor wanted to try some spot landings with my trainer, so i let him borrow it. DId i tell you what a disastrous day it was for other fellow flyer's? Next week is our funfly, so since there were so many people today (weather), we decided to put up two poles and connect them with a string and play a little game of limbo. I took some time off to see the planes go through. Seemed to me like fun, but then it was just awful. A guy had his trainer go through it but instead of going between the poles, his wing SMACKED right into the pole. God what a site to see. NExt victim, a BEAUTIFUL piper cub, possibly a 70 inch wingspan. Stable smooth flyer, totaled in the pole engine first, OUCH. A guy brought n a SPAD, and ended up with a SPLAT. JUst kidding, those planes are durable, the plane was a pizza box and it smacked straight into the pole, but the plane didn't the break. the engine flew right off. I can see that spads are durable, VERY durable. THere were a few more crashes that day, but here is the best part. My instructor finally took his P-51 for a flight. Flew Beautiful, STABLE and i could believe it. Once it was a quarter way into its flight, he gave the transmitter to me, and BOY what a feeling. Those planes are stable, on reduced controls though. It flew great with the wing, roles were absolutely magnificent. My instructor flipped the retract switch and asked me to land. So i did, no fuss, it was easy, but a broke his prop. Showing good sportsmanship, i gave him one of my spare ones. So to conclude, i can tell you that it was a hell of a day,. and i think that i can handle a warbird now. So beginners, all alike, this hobby is the best one there is, and its even better if you get a chance to fly your instructors PLANE. Its a little test, to see how well my nerves take it wile flying some other guys plane, and knowing that if i crash, big bucks will fly out of my green savings box in my shelf. Dont quite the hobby if you crash, keep going. I would recommend getting two planes, doesn't matter what are they, just as long as you keep flying after one crashes, it keep your spirits up.

Michal

PS: Many thanks to J3FAN, who made all this happen, God Bless You.

Awesome idea, even though I am a born again newbie (took 20 years off) I think it's a wonderful concept. All the arguements are valid of course. Noone will ever know if you're truely in need or scamming, just nature of the beast. If your willing to give something away then all you can be sure of is that YOU feel good for trying. On that note, I only have one trainer and one radio, but have accumulated literally thousands of plans in mostly cad format. Anyone looking for a particular plane can get to me and i'll see if I have it, I will email it to you. All I ca offer for now.
