Default Engine mounting problem.

I have a Aeroworks Edge 540T .46-.61 ARF I'm putting together. The engine is a Tower Hobbies .75. Broken in and runs good with stock muffler. Enclosed are 3 pics of the engine mounting process. The problem I'm having is the muffler touches the fuselage. Unfortunately, the engine mounts only go sideways so I cannot move them up or down.

I wanted to know if they make something whereby you can mount the muffler to the engine with the ability to turn the muffler.
I think this is my only option other than whittling out the fuse (which I don't want to do) or getting a Pitts Style Muffler. Concerning a Pitts style muffler, I'm unsure as to how this would affect engine performance.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Tower Hobbies has a Dubro muffler extension

I had the same problem; my engine was rubbing on the side of my fuselage. This might do the trick, and give you 1/2" of space.

I was going to recommend a muffler extension, but that wouldn't help. It looks like the angle of the engine mount is slightly off which is keeping your muffler from being centered in the slot. The pitts style muffler will cause the engine to sound different, but performance will remain constant. Some have claimed pitts mufflers create insufficient back pressure, but I've personally never had a problem.
You could also fill the mounting holes and redrill new ones. This only takes an hour and a little patience and measuring.

Yeah, this one is specifcally for a Tower .75. I photoshop'ed it and ordered one with a 2 day delivery.
You don't see any issues mounting the Pitts do you?

It should be a direct replacement without needing any modification. The only thing you'll need to do is put a hole in the cowl where the exhaust ports stick out. The only problem you may encounter is that the pitts muffler works best when mounted to an engine mounted at 90 degrees. This means that the exhaust won't come straight out the bottom.

It does look like the angel is the problem, but I was thinking the extension would give you enough clearance, unless you want to spend money on a pitts, which will look better.

Bolt the engine to the mounts, then loosen the firewall mounting screws and rotate the mount as far as it will go in the slots , tighten firewall bolts. . I think you`ll find your clearance will improve enough to clear your fuse.

if you are going to the trouble drilling the firewall and useing a pitts style muffler i would mount the engine at 90degree,then the only problem you will have is cutting the outlets for the exhaust pipes.all of the pitts style mufflers i have used have improved the performance of my engines.some supertiger engines need one pipe plugged for proper back pressure.i am not sure about the tower engines.

Just cut/sand the fuse a little bit to let the muffler fit.

yaeh just glue tri stock on the inside..this way when you drimel that former there won't be a hole.
And if your overly consern that making a hole might weaken it...that's your reinforment.

it'll take me less than 30.sec to take a drimel to it and be done with it.

This would be the best first move to make. I am certain that you will gain enough clearance with this method. If not, go with the method below:

yaeh just glue tri stock on the inside..this way when you drimel that former there won't be a hole.
