Jeff Michael,
No guessing required, just a tiny bit of research to find your address.
Piece of cake.
Looks like yourself and Vic, pretty much covered all the questions in a nut shell.
Liz and I worked in the yard today for about 6 hours and we are pretty whipped.. Heck getting older. But it does look pretty good/great.
Guess I'm going to do some PM work on the helis for an hour or so, (it's relaxing for me), drink some golden goodness and watch a movie. Offline for a few hours, or maybe tomorrow. The old one is tired.
Helis doing fine, no comment. Don't want to jinx myself.

You clown....!!!...LMAO...
I have to give some Kudo's to Heli-Direct... Everytime I order from those guys, I get the stuff so fast ! I ordered my replacement head for my Trex Thursday afternoon and got it today...[8D] Everytime I order from them, whether in Washington, or here in Cali, I get my order within 2 days. 3 days max... And there back east ! Regular mail even... And I'll always give them my business first, then look elsewhere if they don't have what I want...
I was tinkering with the Typhoon, but now I've thrown it aside and putting the ol' Trex in the shop for some more LATE night wrenching... Sleep it seems, was a thing of the past since I've been self-indulged in this hobby !
The planes are quite fun, but only half of the satisfaction that I get from the heli's......
I was starting to get withdrawls, from having the Trex 'down' from the last crash and almost broke out one of the CPP's.... But I convinced myself not to go there...Lol.. Well, time to start making that coffee........

Hi All,
Man I had a great day! Zero wind, perfect for flying. I brought my glow fuel planes to the field today as well as my electric Extra and the HBKII. We managed to maiden 3 airplanes without a hitch. I was blessed to be at the sticks for the first hopps of all including my Kyosho Pitts S2-C. I got to fly a 1/4 scale Great Planes Piper Cub with a OS 91 4 stroke. The owner/builder is one of the nicest guys ever met. He must be in his late 70's to early 80's and was a full scale pilot. He's owned an Aeronica, Luscombe, multiple Cessna's 150, 172, 182. It was great to hear him recount many stories. The motor didn't want to behave but we got it tuned up enough I felt comfortable to maiden it. She flew beautifully! He built it perfectly. The next was my Pitts. I wasn't really happy with it. If you touched the rudder the nose dove hard. I didn't have it set-up correctly, ( throws were way to little) but it was also uneventful and landed very well. I then got the privilege to maiden a 1/4 scale Midwest Extra 300S with a OS 3500 2 stroke. This is by far the biggest plane I've ever flown. I was so graceful and smooth![8D] On it's first flight I was doing 4 point rolls. The HBKII was acting up and the gyro wasn't holding. I have to check into it. The owners of the property were just great, super nice people.
What a Blessed Day!
God Bless Y'all,
Jay

Man that's great...! What a beautiful piece of property... I could live in a tent there, and have another for storing my RC stuff...
The dream place to fly... I bet you had a blast, I was wondering how things were going for ya today as I remember you saying that this weekend was going to be a neat flying experience for you. [8D] I wish I could have been there also ! I would LOVE to talk to the older gents, and pry there brains and memories for as much information as I could from there tired bones....!!
I always have a great respect for my elders, and always listen, and try to learn as much as I can on any subject for that matter. Did you fly your butt off ?! Show em' who daddy is ?!
Bummer the HBK2 was giving you issues... I bet they would have liked to see it perform with your skill level at the sticks... Another day, another time I suppose... I can't imagine what you were thinking or feeling flying something of that size, and among that being somebody else's... What a great bunch of fellers' ! Of course, I would let you fly anything of mine anyday.... Your a great pilot in all aspects as well as a great person, and they knew this or they wouldn't have offered by all means. To much green invested in something that size ! Which brings me to question, as when I was at the RC event a week or so ago, I was wondering how much those 1/4 scales cost completed anyway ? I have no idea... I did see some had three big servos lined all up, in operating one aileron for example !....Crazy ! At least if one goes, you got two more to give ya something to bring it home hopefully...
Alright, take care Jay....

This Extra wasn't big enough for the 2 or 3 servos per aileron, but that motor and prop were huge! We all had a great time! I talked my buddy into flying flying it himself. He was pretty nervous but I knew he could fly it. He took off and flew it like he'd done a 100 times. He was really nervous about landing but he brought it down and made a way better landing with it than I did. He set it on the mains and then gently set the tail down and came to a stop. It was like you could see him knock the wall over that kept him from flying it. HIs brother was tearing up the skies with his Extra and a pattern plane called a Fashion. The owners of the field had fan fold electrics that they were tearing the skies up with. I'm going to try to make a few of those. They were telling me that you can buy a sheet of blue fan fold for $30 that is 3 feet or so by 50 feet, that a lot of planes for $30

Its only 6:20 P.M. here Pacific time.... I've got an hour of daylight, so I was pre-flighting the Typhoon for maybe a possible break in the wind, and I just noticed as you open the canopy there is a screw that screws down into 2 tabs to keep the wings from coming apart from the sides of the fuselage.... Well... Thank-goodness for pre-flights, as I just noticed I forgot to put that screw in last night and I've been hot-rodding it all morning flying the you know what out of it !....YIKES..! The wings could have easily just fell off !...LOL..
I kept looking at one of the wings, and wondering.... Why is that one wing soooo close to the rudder servo.... Well, question answered...! Sleep deprived I blame !
Not to mention, I was adjusting the TX for maximum deflection (Travel adjust) for my rudder, and elevator and I accidently hit the gas..... Man she takes off quick in a living room....!
Now we hold the back rear fuselage when we play around with the TX on !
Oh...... So much more to learn.............

Super Pics, Jac. Sounds like you had a great time. Was that a Cessna 150 anchored down in the background?
Jeff- Preflights have saved my butt more then once. Lack of them cost me a time or two
There is no better habit to form then to preflight whatever you fly.
I went through 2 batteries this morning. For some reason my tail is pulsing. What's odd is that I hadn't flown since doing that loop video so nothing should have changed. I had to dial the gain down from 65 to 62% and that made it very loose feeling but stopped the pulsing. I got to look this over very good. Once the tail felt flyable I did manage some very tight loops, almost flips. Probably only took up 7 feet of air space doing them. But the tail just didn't want to hold properly so I set it down before smacking it up. I'm wondering if my tail shaft is sticky as the grass I fly from is a bit high and can choke the tail blades on spin up sometimes. Hopefully can go over it in the morning.
Hope everyone else is having a great weekend!
Jim

I remember awhile back of my Trex tail pulsing like that when it was new. I did have to very very lightly sand the shaft, and then I used some Tri-Flow on it. That solved my problem, but there is lots of variables as you know in which could cause this.... Your guess is as good as mine...
I always hate new parts or a new heli for that matter, as everything is stiff and brand new, and I start to like everything much better once it all gets broken in and such.
Funny, as I was just up top of the property pacing, and waiting for the wind to stop which it never did, and was just thinking of you and your loops and such as I was staring off into the sky trying to imagine if I could pull of a loop.... Which there's no way yet... But yeah, whenever you get a chance throw up another video as you progress a little more... I also was thinking the other day, when you are filming and you had the issue of the heli out of frame are you zoomed in to much with the camera ? Reason I ask, is I film all my flights with two clicks of zoom and that's it... It keeps it perfect so, its not to close and out of frame, and also not to far away also... I tried 3 clicks this morning in the heavy drizzle, and it was to much... The Typhoon would sometimes be out of frame...
Worse comes to worse get one of those harnesses from Home-Depot or somewhere, and use the industrial strength velcro, as the camera is right there at eye level and so everything you see is also exactly what the camera see's. Being on top of your hard hat might be making it a little challenging. The harness is neat with the velcro, as you can still tilt the camera to a degree or two for those perfect shots... Just some ideas...
Well I miss my Trex, so I need to start working on it....
Take care Jim....

Well guys my shortest video yet.... 38 seconds ! Woo hoo...
http://s163.photobucket.com/albums/t...=Sept20021.flv In anticipation of waiting for the wind to quit gusting at the top of the property, and pacing back and forth for like 30 minutes, I said the hek with it and took up the Typhoon to see what its limits may be..... Or actually, what the pilots limits could be...Lol.. Well, to windy for this camper ! Ended up in some bushes, but no damage done... I think I've strengthened most the weak areas, so that helped ! Good to know however, on the wind situation.... I've been curious for awhile now... Those short fat little 3-D wings catch that wind like something fierce !
Alright, back to the Trex....

Jim, yep... it's a 150. The fella that owns that was there today as well. He was talking about how he needs to sell it. I new that would end my marriage if I even entertained that notion.
Preflighting and after flight inspection are a must for all of our models. My header pipe on my Edge w/ the Saito was cracked completely through[:@] I had a spare but not like the one on it so some mods had to be done. All screws that hold on the motor were loose, tell tail signs were black greasy stuff around the screws, ground aluminum
and a lone washer from were I have no idea. I presume that is was one that dropped in while building and never found until now. That's only one plane and 2 flights[X(] That Saito is a vibrating machine though and I always check to see what came loose.
My friends smaller Extra had throttle problems, with further inspection the firewall had let loose on one side allowing the motor to pull out slightly and change the throttle setting.
Vic, this is for you. I stepped into my garage tonight to retrieve a pair of channel locks and about pooped myself when I saw this huge spider clinging to the wall. I ran back inside and grabbed the camera and snapped a few pics. After that I smeared him into the welcome mat with the channel locks
All I could think is that it was a brown recluse. Turns out that this one is a funnel spider. I HATE SPIDERS!
Jeff, I'll give ya a Homer Simpson, " DOUGH " on that one
God Bless Y'all,
Jay

LMAO...had the markings been different...recluse....!!! Working on my 2nd TH57, about 3 more hours, it'll be flyable. Going fishing in the AM. According to the Almanac...tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest fishing day of "08, and I'll be there. Here's a couple pics of the second 57. My first one's side number is 38, this one is gonna be 23.

Funny..... I was just going to post on your EXI thread on how nice its coming along on your fuselage there ! But since you slapped the pics here, I'll say it here ! NICE JOB...
Please don't talk fishing... I still have a month or so before I get home for that ! Unless you like dry river beds, or half filled resevoirs here in Cali fishing is out of the picture !! It cracks me up seeing these guys in these expensive ***** boats set-up for water sports and pounding away on these lakes they think are so awesome... Dirty and low, stumps, they have no clue ! They need to head up north to some 'real' lakes....LMAO...

Jeff Michael,
I concur on Heli-Direct, I've used them many times over the years and have been very satisfied with the products and speed of delivery, never had a problem with them. Also as you mentioned to Wnuck about the Carbon Fiber main blades, that's all I use, they are the nut-berries. I watched your video of the minor crash with the Typhoon, looks like right at take off, the wind had you going right out of the get go. I did have to LOL, right at the very very end of the video, as you started to walk towards the plane, I could here you whisper, "Damn it".. LMAO We all crash, and you'll crash again too. Loved the picture of the lake.
Jay,
You are overwhelming yourself with fun, great pictures of your outing, and I know you got a thrill flying some of the big ones. I never have, my biggest was a 48 inch wing span.
Jim,
Concerning your tail wag, after the heli sat for awhile. It could be ambient temperature related. It may have been much cooler or hotter than when you posted your video of the first loop. Gyros can be sensitive to the heat, being that they use piezoelectric technoloy. Something to dwell on..
Vic,
Your TH-57 #23 looks awesome. Excellent paint job and details are great.
Well, I'm off to do a little flying myself to day, it's perfect weather. 75 degrees, no humidity and the best part, NO WIND.
Later,

Hey Jeff,
I watched your video and it looked like my first crash when I had hit the rudder which drove me into the ground. Since I have been flying the T-28 I DO NOT use the rudder at all............unless I am up very high as it really kicks the tail around like in your video.
That is a great plane, look lights and wirie to do anything you like.
Smiles JPee

Speaking of spiders..... The Tarantula's around here are starting there migration, so you see them all about now since the weather is starting to change some... Those suckers are so huge from any Washington spiders I'am used to ! You could get a meal out of a couple of them rascals...Lol.. Anyway.... Send me your address and I'll send ya couple for your collection....
JPEE ~
Yeah its possible in my panic attempt, I probally hit the rudder there...LMAO...
My sticks are very sensitive, as I have the rates/throws set very high to the maximum allowed... My control surfaces are probally 3 times the surface area of the T-28... Makes doing 3-D much easier !
With this plane, I use my rudder quite often, as some maneuvers like hovering and such require only rudder and elevator... And when I'am swinging it around in a turn for a landing, I compliment it slightly with a little rudder, which makes for a smooth consistent turn... Until I figure out expo on the DX-7, everything is manual on the sticks... I never could understand even with the heli's on how to add expo, just to confusing at this stage in the game for me !

The battery that came with the Typhoon is a Parkzone cheapy that puts out a max of a 15c discharge and has a 1800 mah capacity weighing 138 grams... My other two Thunder powers I run in it also are 147 grams and have a 2200 mah cap... Guess what I tried early this morning in it ?..... My CPP Thunder Power which is a 1320 mah 13c and weighing only 91 grams !...LOL...[8D] Now, I wasn't sure when I first attempted this because of the nearly 50-60 gram weight loss, but that Typhoon could hover all day long..........!!! And flies so sweet and smooth, that it blew me away ! Wind is definately your enemy now, as it is almost feather light compared to the other batts but that little TP batt is now my favorite. [8D] I'll have to download the video for it.... It's about 3 minutes long....
I had to be conservative on my throttle management however hovering for great lengths, as I had put the stock 25 amp E-Flite esc back in, and it gets warm compared to the Castle Creations 45 amper I did have in it, which was barely warm at all when I got done with a flight... I'am still paranoid of the E-Flites esc's because like I said before, of them catching on fire from accounts I have read... So cool...! I can land now also coming in a harrier-mode and landing almost like a heli...LMAO..
I'll download the vid.... You gotta see...
Take care all... Oh....Yeah...Dave, sometimes I talk to myself at the end of the vids....
I need to be cautious a little more...LMAO...

Jeff-On my videos you are correct about the zoom. I panned out yesterday and they were excellent. Unfortunately my camera batteries died after just 30 seconds so I did not get the rolls on video.
Vic-Those scale bodies you do are just stuning! Your craftsmenship is outstanding.
Dave- Thanks for the tip on the tail. I think I isolated it down to those pesky E-flight servos. The tail servo is wnadering and can't find center, or it deflects strong in either direction but slowy tries to come back to center. I have a Futaba servo on the way. Should be here Monday. I'll keep you posted.

Great on solving your cam issue... Now we'll be expecting a new and improved version here in the next week or so... It sure makes sense, as to your tail problem now also. Now my memory serves me correctly, as I forgot you still were running the stock servo for the tail and I'll bet that is your problem most definately ! What Futaba servo are you getting? 9650 ? 9257 ?.....
Mike ~
Yeah that Typhoon is pretty light... You had me thinking, that next time just for kicks I may try one of my Air-Thunder 3-cell 2200 mah 25c batts in it... It weighs about 200 grams, compared to the one that came stock with the Typhoon which was about 138 grams... 3-D would be a little more challenging, but the added weight would help for just simple flying, which is better than no flying at all when its windy ! How's your Belt CP coming along ? Did you get some new main blades yet ? Did you get your swash links adjusted o.k. ? As I remember you asking in a previous post in comparing them to the tie-rods in a car... I couldn't understand fully on what maybe you were implying, but I'am sure you're figuring it all out by now... Once everything gets all broken in and loosened up, it will hover and fly even better !
Finless videos over at Heli-Freak will also help you understand on the set-up of everything, and are very popular by many... Not sure if he has a video on the Belt CP, but he has some for the Trex, and many others and they will still help you with the basics on set-up of the heli, and even your TX programming. I don't have the link off hand, but if you wanted it just ask because someone here has it. And worse comes to worse, I'll find it for ya...

I'am thinking of giving one a ride on the ol' plank....[8D]
Here's that short clip of the Typhoon running with the 3 -cell 1320 mah 13c 91 gram batt:

Jeff, how'd you get that video up in Chinese? Great flying! There's no way I would bet that you just started flying planes. I would say things like, " The sky's the limit" but you gone far past that. Geese man... your getting hovering and harriers without problems. Does your batt sit over the wing or out in front. With the lighter batt sitting in front of the wing and less of a wing load, your moving the CG back with make hovering more easy but regular forward flight less precise and less stable but landings will have the nose up. Looks like your having a ball[8D] You are now a 3D pilot[8D] That's something I've been working on for years
God Bless Ya Jeff,

Jeff Michael,
Geez Louise,, that was excellent. You've come a long, long way in such a short time with the planks. Very impressive. You're having toooo much fun.
Keep 'er going. Life is short and my left eye just started twitching.
[sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=shades_smile.gif] On thing you need to work on is landings, Vic said that awhile back.. Just do land and goes, land and goes.
Landing is IMPORTANT! You're doing fine. No................................................ ........ you're doing super-duper!
Mike,
Here's the Finless video group, that Jeff was talking about, I thought I'd give him a hand so he could get SOME SLEEP!
You do have to be a member to view the videos, it's free just like RCUniverse, just make a login screen name and password.
All his videos are excellent for noobies and old timers like me, refresher courses. You'll have to search for what you need. He's made a ton of videos... He's like a heli-god.
