I guess it beats sitting around listening to your I.Q. points drop. We could write a troubleshooting book right off this thread covering the CP and CP-Pro nose to tail, skid to tip of rotor head, and everything inbetween. Man...I've seen some WEIRD stuff come up with this heli. My three suspects (tail motor/3-1/servos) were experience and logic. AND...I did what I tell others...check the simple/cheapest stuff first. Loe and behold...it was the cheapest item that failed. I just come off a very impressive hover session. A few more adjustments to the servo links...It should be perfect (? whatever that is).

Getting it handed to us, isn't that what keeps us in this hobby? I think everyone one of us who participated in this thread knows that tinkering/fiddling/fixing brings us as much pleasure as actually flying these things! After every flight I take, I evaluate what went right or wrong and try to think of ways to improve them. Be it mechanically, my stick inputs, you name it. I'm always thinking! I really believe that if things worked perfectly each and every time, we would grow bored rather quickly and move onto something else.

OK...you get this kill then. What got me was the "all of a sudden" thing. I get good height but stability is a little weak...like not enough head speed. I'm in the process of shallowing my pitch to get the head speed back without loosing lift (explain that one 3 times fast). My DD system should be here tomorrow ya know. I also noticed my rotor blades are nearing the end of their useful life. Tail motor drawing excessive current...whoda thought. Normally...they just get weak and die. I just love getting it handed to me...don't you?

Hey, give me partial credit then? I thought that current was your issue
You better turn that gain down, you are burning up a LOT of tail motors!

Wnuk,
Very Well said, you took the words right out of my mouth... I was thinking the same thing the other day.
If it were perfect, you could hover all day long and not have to give it any input at all (Never happen with the heli) ...Boring... Let's have fun, and fixer up to go.

Wonder where I heard this before (as I choke on my own words). I guess if it were EASY...everyone would be doing it eh?

Crashcrash,
Gonna be rude here,, My I.Q., is 150, what's yours... I take a test every year or so...
Settle down, take a deep breath, and realize, that this is a frustrating and expensive hobby.
Just trying to help, you helped me soo much, "CAN DO"

RICK HERE : with an infrequent TECHNICAL SUPPORT QUESTION :
I have read everything you gentlemen are doing and have done. Based on the collective experiences it seems that motor & other items failures are not a matter of "if" but of "when"
SO : even if my CP PRO is still perfect in every way, I have sent off to Hor.Hob. for the" Manual recommended upgrade" w/ESC / GYRO / Brushless motor and other small items ; tot: $ 190.00
When I get a failure they will be installed. THE QUESTION : with this new setup is the DIRECT DRIVE tail still a viable option, worth getting ?
Thanks for the warm acceptance of my silly BirthDay picture.... to all RICK

Rick........the DD tail with your brushless upgrade is going to be more of a must........not an option. The stock tail probably won't keep up with the brushless main. choppersrule can advise you more deeply on that. Also glad to hear you enjoyed your birthday and that is great pic of you and your granddaughter! I got a new addition to my family too............. see if you can find it in the pics.........LOL

Choppersrule Here:
To all that are doing the DD tail upgrade.... It has been mentioned that the tail housing that comew with the kit is somewhat flimsie(spelling)?). I got mine yesterday(Friday) and sure enough it is flimsie.. Also, mentioned was to use the stock gearbox and modifiy it so that GWS round motor will fit..
I had a Brain Storm last night, didn't hurt at all. But here's my idea. (See pictures)
Take the original, stock gear box, using a dremel cutoff wheel, cut the part off that the tail skid slips into.. Take that piece and put it on the boom first, then the GWS gearbox. I haven't finished the installation yet, to much to do today, so the attached pitures are just for starters. But it will give you my train of thought... Gotta run.. Back later.

Got a question for those who DO have the DD system installed and are running it. Did it affect CG and if so...how did you compensate? Did you have to shorten the tail boom any?

Well, to install and setup the DD tail took all of 10 minutes once the debonder kicked in! I haven't put it in the air though yet. Reason being it turns the heli WAY tail heavy[X(] I don't have anymore time to play with it now but even moving the battery WAY forward, it is STILL tail heavy. I'm thinking of cutting off the bearing holder and then if needed, shortening the tail boom. I'm not sure of the length to cut it at though. Time for research.[&o]

Wnuck,
We will all probably have to modify something to get the CG right,, BladeRepair guy, said he didn't have to shorten the tail boom, Hmmm..
Dave / Choppersrule
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"I'll be completing my DD install later this after noon, here's a quote from BladeCPRepair..
"Allow the CA to dry as indicated by the product's label. After a short run-up recheck all screws and the retaining nut for security. It would be wise to check these also after the next couple of flights.
You will undoubtedly have to adjust the 4-in-1 Gain and Proportion settings.
Check the aircraft's center-of-gravity (CG) as outlined in the owner's manual. You will need to move your battery all the way forward. If moving your battery all the way forward still doesn't provide the desired CG then consider cutting an inch off of the Tail Boom. I did not have to cut anything off of the Tail Boom.
And finally... was it worth the $22.98 (plus shipping). I think the answer is "Yes" in varying degrees depending on what type of flying you do and how well you do it. If you're an experienced pilot you will love the tail authority available. A brand new guy who is still putting the tail in the dirt fairly frequently will probably be frustrated by this mod. Wait a month or two. For the people that are primarily hovering, you will notice a slight improvement in tail response."

This is the guide I used: http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t218932p1/
As in the guide I cut my boom at the stock gear box and slid the GWS gear box on after cutting the geared GWS shaft tube off to save even more weight. I only have to move the battery 1/2 inch forward. The GWS gear box is sufficient.
You have to remember in balancing something, the further you get to the end (in this case the tail) the less weight it takes to effect balance. So, you want as little at the end of that tail as possible without compromising performance.

Using the CSRC 1250mah lipos, I don't think I will have to worry too much about weight. that and the battery tray from the Superskids allows me to move my battery quite a ways forward. One mod to the GWS tail mount is definately cutting off the bearing holder, and the flimsy tail fin. Then will drill a small hole in the new mount and try to install the carbon fiber tail from the stock one.......if not then I will do Daves mod, that looks pretty simple too! Ty choppersrule....excellent idea!

Arrow,
I'm working on mine as I type, well not at the same time of course. But I was looking at the GWS gearbox, and I don't believe you'll be able to drill and mount a tail skid on it.. Doesn't look like there's room, and the plastic on the GWS box is pretty soft too.
Back to work on the heli I go.... Pictures later tonight (if i don't forget- Yuk-Yuk).

wow, I was gone from the group for a day or two, and I had like 86 messages in my inbox, and most of them from over here. I had to play some catch up =)
I was just wondering, has anyone had anything negative to say about the eboyztoyz vendor, or has everything been really good, and at a really good price?
