I am trying to decide which one I should get, Nuance or BiSide?
Any thoughts? Thanks.

What class are you flying? The planes were designed for different purposes. BJ has a very nicely thought out plan for his planes. Monolog, cheap, entry level aircraft including 2m. Flies great. Prolog, is the next step up to a glass fuse. Different wing, and flies very well. There are two versions, the original with the more aft canopy and the V2, which uses the same canopy as the Nuance. Nuance is next up, really great plane for Masters and even the P sequence of FAI. Episode and BiSide were both designed with the latest FAI sequences in mind. Incredible rudder authority. Both fly great, and both have their differences, but they are definitely better for the FAI class and both can be a little more work in the lower classes.

Hi Arch,

I am just an average flyer not into any competition but enjoy pattern flying very much. I have a 2M Monolog for a year and a half now. I want to buy a second one with glass fuse. It seems I should get the Nuance instead of BiSide. Do you think so? But I really like the look of BiSide. Is it a lot harder to fly than the Nuance.

Well.. I think it's really hard to say if one will be harder to fly than the other. What Arch is getting as is more the specific details of flying it in competition. I don't think you could go wrong with EITHER choice, but me being a biplane guy, I happen to really love the BiSide.

Hi Doug,
If you are saying I can enjoy the BiSide as much as the Monolog as an average pilot, I am going to get the BiSide because I really like its look and colour scheme. I think it was mentioned in earlier thread the BiSide looks larger and present better in the sky. Your thought?

It sounds to me like you know you want the BiSide already. I'm certainly not going to try and talk you out of it.
I LOVE mine.

In rough conditions, the Nuance does penetrate better and is a little easier to deal with in high winds. The BiSide flies awesome though, but can be a little more work on a nasty day. They both fly great. The BiSide presents larger, but I wouldn't say better, just different. There is definitely a group that prefers the look of monoplanes, versus biplanes. The other thing is you have two wings to give away when you are level or not. Not trying to talk you into one or the other, just giving you feedback with tons of flights on a Nuance (2012 Masters NATS Champ with it) and many flights on the BiSide. For the lower classes the BiSide can be a little more work to accomplish the same thing when conditions aren't perfect.

I flew my BiSide recently in about 20mph winds at about a 45 degree cross and didn't find it difficult to manage at all. I DID have to fly faster than I wanted, but that's just a normal fact of flying in the wind. I would prefer to fly it slowly.

I love the way my Nuance with the DTFS wings is flying. Haven't flown a BISIDE to compare with though. Tough choice. I think you'd probably be happier with the Nuance for several reasons. But if you like the Biside, how can you go wrong?

I have just bought one of these fine products - P Wessels was asking about an alternative way to mount the top wing - this is my attempt. Its made from 1.6 mm ply , the back bolt supports the rear of the wing and sets the incidence - the key slot locates the back of the wing and take the load when the model is picked up. I have to say that the original idea is hard to beat - this just gives the wing a bit more area to seat the wing.

Hi Gwyn,

also a really good idea ! Good to see modellers and all their thinking and building;that is always I love in modelling. Meanwhile our Biside is ready with Jeti DC-16 TX, Mezon 95, Hacker Q80, Hacker Top Fuel 10s 4500 mA, Falcon spinner and Falcon 21x13,5 prop.

Weight is about 4,73 kg... if I want I could finde some grams to reduce, but really not necessary. I made some improvements at the landing gear inside the fuselage; did some CFK to make it stronger. Get 30 g more weight because of this; but so it is stronger.

If using the Mezon BEC controller I could take away the 2s 800 RX lipo and the Powerbox RX Digi switch; about 60 g; also I could reduce the weight of the Mezon for about 30 g (some work at the cooling part of the Mezon)

Of course the normal way of landing construction in the fuselage is absolut ok !!! But not everywhere are perfect airfields. At the moment we can not fly, because in germany it is getting winter time; windy, cold , icy and snowing... so no flying weather for the next mounth...

I am really looking forward going as judge to IMAC WC and perhaps also to TAS 2014 (if Da will make it) to see my friends again !

Regards and merry christmas time to all of you

PW

I have been having a think about how I can set up the tailplane, so I made a jig. It will hold everything steady while I set the diagonals - I will have to take the u/c off and set it up on the bottom wing.

Hi,

has anybody the incedence (EWD) between wings and stab ?

I marked the point for the stab with the wodden template. I fixed the fuselage with the wings, so that wings are "Zero". Then going to the stab (marked with the template) and stab showed " 2 degree plus" ......; seems to be very much for an aerobatic airplane. Normally EWD is about 0-0,5 degree difference.

Who knows the difference between wings and stab ?

Regards

PW

No idea. I just set it up and flew it. Didn't have any problems. I'm out of town this weekend for other things, but when I get back I'll try and get a meter on it to get you some info.

Hi Guys,Iam seriously considering getting a Biside but from what I have read it seems asthough it may be a fast model,I have been flying a Mayer designed Toxiris as I like a slower flying model.
Will the Biside fly slowly?or will this be the wrong choice?

Hi Joe, The BiSide is definitely not a fast model and the light weight and wing loading allow you to fly it very slowly if you desire.

The Biside is definitely a plane that is comfortable flying slowly. Presentation is very nice. With its size it seems to be flying slower than it is. Great flying plane.

Agree with everything said by Arch. I fly mine very slowly when winds are calm and it never feels mushy or lacks presentation at all. I suppose I could fly it faster but I really enjoy the slow pacing.

Hi Joe
Yes it flies very nice at a slow pace. I really like the pace with the 3 blade 20x13 el MZ prop. The downlines are slower than with the two blade. It can fly fast in the wind if needed but presents really nice at a slower pace. The Bi Side can be fast at full throttle but there is no need to fly it at that speed.

Thanks for the replies Guys,I have now ordered one,and looking forward to get stuck into this one as it sounds as it is really up my street.
I have a Hacker Q80 11s 28 pole I intend using, as I have noticed that other Biside builders have fitted these.
Happy Christmas and new year to you all. Regards Joe.
