Jim & CP, I'm sorry I have not replied to your posts sooner, but I have been "down" for awhile. I got things up and running now, so to answer your posts: First, CP, I returned the 28/40 V-2 motor, it just did not have any real "poop". ....Jim, It could be our radar gun is out-of-whack. Also, we were not doing a true fast fly by, straight and level, but rather "diving" with a 25 mph tail wind! (it was howling that day steady 25-30 mph.. I thought we were insane when we went to fly that day, but heck, the plane doesn't know its windy!), so that could be why we were reading way fast on the radar. It's amazing, the FJ doesn't care if its windy! Also, I have tried the apc props in the 4 to 6 PITCH range, but they just don't seem to "have it" ...Have you guys tried the apc 5.7x3 ?? (with Mega 16/15/2 on 25c 3300 mah lipo)! This prop seems to REALLY push the FJ! i KNOW 3 pitch does not seem like it will do much, but it is awesome for speed & vertical! Also, when I hand launch my FJ, I am ONLY AT 1/3 POWER, AND IT DOES NOT ROLL LEFT FROM THE TORQUE! THERE IS NO NEED TO GO FULL THROTTLE! With the 5.7x3 it has plenty of pull away from you, and if you need to make some elevon correction, you can at the lower speed. I NEVER HAVE LAUNCHED MINE AT FULL THROTTLE! No need to with the pull i get from the 5.7X3.....Thanks for listening, Paul

CP, I know this sounds strange, but I have tried a 5x5 apc, and it is actually SLOWER than the 5.7x3! The 3300 3S battery, and castle 54ESC are holding up fine... I am drawing 73amps...Paul

Hi guys, I'm new to this FJ crazy stuff. My last plane was a great planes Patriot with an On AX .46. It has been in the r/c graveyard for a few years now. Needless to say, after reading and watching videos of you speed demons, my next one is a FunJet, Probably a little tamed down from what is in this forum.
I just wanted to say thanks for giving me the need for speed again and keep up the good work.

I just can't wait to see that all carbon FJ...Hey B1bman, would you be interested in selling one?

The speed is just insane...

Oh yeah one more thing. Northeast Sailplane recommends this setup:

Medusa Flying Wing Motor System-Li-Poly This system includes the Medusa 028-032-2800 Brushless motor, Phoenix 35 Brushless Sensorless Speed Control, 3-cell 2070 mah ThunderPower 25C Li-Poly Battery pack, prop, prop adapter, and all connectors. This system while light and compact, will fly the wing at very high speeds with more thrust than weight for unlimited verticals. This is the hot way to go!

What kind of speed could I expect from this

Thanks

Hi guys,

I am already sick of my Stryker. I need some advice on a new Funjet setup. I want to go about 120 MPH. Here is the gear I have available.

Packs
2 2200 4S 25C Packs
2 2500 4S 25C Packs

Motors
Mega 15/25/3 1700 KV
HET 2660 KV 1000 watts

Servos
HS 82 MG
HS 65MG

CC 45's and 80

etc etc.

I want to have a light flyer that has good speed without a lot of airframe mods.

What do you suggest. Its is going to be a pig of a flyer with these packs I have. I wonder because I liked my Stryker until it got over 30 oz and then lost some of its magic with respect to aerobatics.

Thanks,

Rino

Did you have any problems with the HET motor over time.

Did you land on grass or make skids for it?

Didn't it weigh a ton with all of that battery weight?

Dude ... what prop did you use when you ran the 2W-25 on 4S? I am taking my 2W-25 out of a HET6904 unit and would like to know what prop is good for 4S. I did a 6S set up for my Twister and it was not impressive for the amount of watts that it pulled.

the funjet can handle a lot of wieght,it was a breeze to fly with the 4s4400 pack, but it was lighter with the 5s 3300 packs, plus faster,i land on grass so i didnt make skids for it,i would recomend just flying on grass.i didnt have any problems with the het motor.but like with any fast setup you dont wanna fly full throttle all the time,10 sec bursts at most.i crashed my funjet,so i will be running the same setup in the next one and i will glass it since i just learned how to,i think glassing the wings will solve a lot of flight issue's

I ran a 6x4 apc on 4s 2200 25c EVO's and pulled about 60 amps. On my stryker that gave me about 105 mph. It was fun and the vertical was outrageous. That was a pretty light setup and and the stryker flew great. I had to cut my flight times shorter than I would have liked. Battery temp was OK though.

I'm going to set up a funjet and am trying to figure out what to run. I like a light setup that will do about 110 to 120. I have the 2W-25 and a 16/25/3. I could run the latter on a 7x7 or 7x8 at lower amps but I wonder if that prop is too big for a funjet.

Do you know what the weight barrier is where you cross over from having a fun to fly plane to a fast but heavy flying sled. I want some speed but want to keep it light too.

Rino ... there is no point trying to push the FJ to a gazillion mph ... the fuse is too draggy. If you want the FJ to go fast you need a very hot set up, to get that you need more battery and motor, that increases the AUW. I tried a 6S set up and was not impressed at all, even then I used 2,200 mAh packs of which I really bloated. On 6S she handles really lousy, relatively that is. Many have spoken about this and many agree a 4S set up is best, enough speed without sacrificing much of the handling characteristic. Best for me was a 4S 2,500 pack and a 16/15/3 with a 4.75 x 4.75.

that prop is way to big, run your 2w25 on a 4s with a 5.5.x4.5 setup,2200 mah packs may be too little, your runtimes will be short and your packs will not last very long, i was pulling 50amps with this setup and getting about 120mph,you can pik up some 2s3300mah packs from hobbycity and run them in series and you be light and fast.everyone who tries to go with a super light setup on there funjet ends up swapping it out for sumthin faster,do it right the first time

krem,

How about the 4S setup with 2500 30 packs. I could either run the HET 2W25 with a smaller prop or the Mega 16/25/3 1700 kv with a 7x8 sport. Either way, is this setup to heavy to have a light flyer?

Tianci, do you know what your AUW was. I want to be able to have a responsive light feeling plane. I'm not into lead sleds.

Maybe I should get another Stryker?

go with the het 4s setup with a 2500-300 pack with a 5.5x4.5 prop, the plane will handle realy nicely.take it from someone whos had a few funjets and who has experience with them.if you want a realy light flyer, then maybe a funjet isnt for you.most people get this plane for the speed,if you want a extralight flyer maybe a kynx or a stryker is better for

Thats not necessarily so, our funjet runs 2200 or 2500 4s1p packs with the 2W20 and pushes 800 watts or so, has been clocked at 136mph from a shallow dive and 124mph level flight. Its light and quick, no extra bracing and as you can see in the video a page or so back it launches super easy and flies on rails. Doesnt need to be a lead brick to fly well or fast.

The guys I fly with who have had MANY funjets all have been there and done that, a few have had 5 cell setups with 3300 packs and all complained it was heavy and did not fly nice at all. After flying this relatively light one and another much heavier one I have to agree.

I wonder if I go with the 1700 KV mega and 4S 2500 packs if I can get good speed with a larger prop like a 7x7?

Dang!!! I haven't check in here lately an look at the posts.

rino

You'll like the FJ much better .....lite is better here's my latest FJ Super Mod.
Running...
Micro Dan 2800kv outrunner
E-flite 60 amp ESC
2200ma 3 cel 30 c batteries and 2500 4 cell 20-30 c batteries

radared on 3 cells level flight APC 5.5x4.5 prop 98 mph
Now running APC 6x5.5 cut to 5.25x5.5

Suggest you go with a short style motor 2700 to 2800 kv range.
This plane has the same type deck mount as my Stryker. I can change motors in 2 minutes or less.

MORE PICS !!!!!!!!

As you can see, I've removed the stock canopy and rear top of the fuse. Removed the end wing tanks...I just sanded them into the same contour of the wing. I did not shorten the wing
Installed CF tubes wing tip to tip. CF tube on the inside floor/bay area nose to tail. Installed balsa elevons 1 1/4".... Hitec 65 mg servos. No balsa on the trailing edge. Used hinge pins, 3 per elevon. Outrunner is on a stick mount. Then sits on a 1/4 balsa block laminated both sides with 1/32 ply-I had to groove the bottom of the block to get it to sit correctly...wire ties down thru and around the CF tube. Motor shaft is equal with the trailing edge as that's the center of thrust.
All covers screw down into small balsa blocks. Simple.
Flys rock solid. High wind doesn't phase it. I have flown this one at the beach in 20 plus mph wind.

I did widen the bay area for future batteries. Oh the canopy..front part made from a 2 litter soda bottle..rear part is made from curtain rod package material nice and flat plastic... I spray painted the insides of both canopys.

You can see it fly.
Go to rcuvideos and search funjet 2008. the plane flying is the exp. previous model. I had worn out batteries and a worn out e-flite 2700 kv but it still proved the mods. would work.
