If you are using a 7 or 9CAP Futaba radio you could accomplish the same thing by putting -30 in the expo for the throttle. Hi Bob, guess we posted at the same time! How's the ice storm coming? Thawing out I hope. I'm dying to see you fly that Vess!!!!!!

If things get too bad jump on a plane and come up here. It's wet but in the 40's and 50's and there'll always be a place for you!!!

Use the blue arm at 3/4", then the servo arm at 5/8", you should be able to go 100% or close. Set the throttle pushrod length by puting the throttle stick at center, and the carb arm at center, then measure that distance for overall pushrod length. This is for direct-pushrod setups with the servo in or near the firewall/engine box.
The key is not to have much movement coming off idle, then more on the "arc" toward the end of the carb arm movement. THis helps reduce the need for expo, but you'll probably still need some.

hey old dude in Mn. when you get to Ft Meyers, you will be about 98 miles from here. I live between Frostproof and Lake Wales, in middle of the state. I have been looking at the 'Wildhare 540t V2. think the DL 50 would tool it around okay. Going to get a new experience tomorrow. I am going to drill the prop. Hope i can manage to get the right angle for easy cranking.

Yeah, right!!! My wife booked tickets for her, me, her mother (from London and blind), my 3 year old GrandDaugther, Youngest Son and Daugther-In-Law to fly to JFK next friday and return the 2nd of January. We're going to visit my oldest son who is teaching prototype reactor in Saratoga Springs 200 miles north of JFK which I have to drive in a rental vehicle. Anybody wanna go to New York in my place????? PLEASE???????

aa2dd,
I actually used my Wildhare Edge V1 to break in the engine. Come spring the engine will be back on the Edge. Power wise the engine isn't putting out full power yet, but vertical was still unlimit. You will have no problems pulling the V2 with it, I believe it is a little lighter than V1. When you order it from Tom, be sure to use his hardware kit, it's good stuff. Make sure you tell him you want a 20oz tank otherwise he will give you a 24oz. 24oz is just to big for the DL50. My Edge had a stump pulling, well broken in G62 with EI on it. Talk about vertical. I sold it for $370, you know what I paid for the DL50. The plane doesn't have the same vertical, yet, but the plane is a lot more nibble. I love it. Less learned, keep the weight down.

Just got a Vess 22a for this DL50. NICE prop, well finished and very hard wood. Drilled and checked balance and there was not need to. A first for me on the balance thing. Prop bolts only go 2/3 the way through the hub. I assume getting longer bolts will be the right thing to do. I did not have any fuel barbs so here is what I did. Thin solid bell wire wrapped around end of tubing and soldered in place then used wire tie to secure.

VERY clean install - this is better than many do after dozens of gas engine setups! And this is your first!!!!!!!! Well Done! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]
Choke rod is very nice... but will get sawn in two in short order from vibration. I'd overdrill the hole, and stick a grommet in there, or a thin piece of fuel tubing on the carbon rod, maybe? A little friction won't hurt, and you'll want to dampen vibes.
Correct on the Vess, and the longer bolts... I think my longer ones are 45mm for mine.... fortunately, the Vess hub is standard, so even the 23" is the same. One set of "extra" bolts is all you'll need.
Great looking install, Wayne... really!

Nice setup.
Three comments though.
1. The color of the fuel stop is black. Make sure it is for gas (not for glow), as mine is brown.
2. definitely get longer bolts for the prop.
3. watch for the engine standoffs. cases have been documented in earlier posts in this thread that the square standofs failed.

Very nice clean install. I'm using the same stopper you have and have not experienced any problems with it. I would suggest that you either change the mounts in favor of stand-offs or check the mounts every time you fly the plane. In particular, look at the internal corners on the mount. That is where the cracks will appear when they start to fail. Where and when did you buy your engine BTW? It appears you have the older style that I have. The new ones being shipped have thicker ears on the rear case and come with stand-offs.

Thanks Bob,
You are right for the $20.00 more getting service and support is worth it,
I just find it strange that PM would stop selling that engine.
Im going to put the DL in my GP Christen Eagle it should fly the hell out of it.

A buddy at the local club has DL-50 with stock muffler now with about 4 gallons. I posted vid in last DL thread ofthe DL on his 17 lb 88 inch EF Yak.
Last weekend he added a EComposites cf tuned pipe with Karl Muller header.
First try and the Vess 23A gave him 7950.....it almost launched his plane and his 13 yr old son[X(] out of the driveway.
He is still working out the mid range smoothness....will play with props and header length and report back.

Need to back the thread up for a sec- nonstop is right about the stopper. If you are using a dubro tank and using the black one that came with it, it will work for a while but over time it swells and deteriorates. Eventually it will break up and bits of it will contaminate your fuel. At some point your engine will not work right and you'll have to clean out the carb. I've seen it on multiple occassions.
