Yah AeroBob.... come on down and you can help me get my Ulti and DL combo in the air. It's this.. close to being ready to fly. Just waiting for my Vess 22a and drill guide to come in the mail. Hope the 22A is not too little of a prop for this monster motor. ;-)' Been doing some flying on the G4 sim with an Ultimate and I hope this one flies like the sim.
BTW... between the Ultimate thread and this thread it has made building my first gasser feell like I've been building gassers for years. Good posting!!!

Wayne - if you need a 22A, I'll ship ya mine.... I sure ain't gonna be needing it anytime soon.... let me know... it's drilled and perfectly balanced...
I'm glad to have helped..... mostly good dudes hangin' out around here, I think. Same on that Ultimate thread. Hated to sell mine, but it was just collecting dust after I got the Cap DL-equipped....
Aren't you like right down the street from Kramer's ???

He won't, trust me.....
But EVERYONE knows you need Pennzoil Air-Cooled ONLY at 32:1 with a Xoar 22 x 8..... now THAT is "tall Cotton" (for you EdwardCobb)
Oh, Yeah, and that's about 7050 rpm or so, depending on altitude, temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, needle adjustment and battery condition in the Tach.
Other than those things, numbers quoted are pretty reliable.... but Wayne is from Texas, (suburb of Oklahoma), he'll understand how to inflate the numbers where appropriate!!!!!!!!!!!!

No need to inflate #'s here. I learned a long time ago that rpms are only good if you wanna go fast. Prop the engine to make the plane fly to your stlye of flying and you wont go wrong. I flew a 19x10 Mejlik on an "OS 1.40" when everyone else was runnin 17x12's and boy was my pattern plane fun to fly. BUT then... this is a gas engine isn't it?
I picked up my DL from Bob's front door steps. He lives just north of Texas stadium.... home of the 12 and 1 Cowboys.
What.. me ask questions..... I've been lurking on these to threads too long to dare ask anything.
BTW.... Texas was put here to keep Oklahoma.... and Missouri.... And Iowa.... and Minnasota ... and Canada... and the North Pole from falling into the gulf of Mexico.

Excuse me for injecting a little humor. Do you know why Texas doesn't slide into the gulf? (Drum roll) Because Oklahoma sucks! Sorry, I couldn't resist, won't do it again.
BTW, my two DL50's are sitting idle until Florida come the end of January. Enough of this MN cold and snow.

Being an old Texas boy myself (UT Arlington) I am all for a DL convention in Irving. And, we could take in another Cowboy win while we are there. Tax deductable??? If we could figure out a way, that would make it even better.

Hi folks!
I saw some photos of Great Planes Yak-54 25% equipped with a DL-50 engine. I have some questions about the throttle servo installation and and mounting the whole engine on this plane. I hope some of the GP's Yak-54 owners will advice me with some photos how to do the whole procedure. I am using skype: virtual.pilot
I hope everybody who can help me, could frop me a lin or provide me with his skype...
Best regards, thanks in advance!

Yeah, I'm in the great northwest and these guys must be a bunch of thin skinned wussies! LOL Get some of those tea-bag hand warmers to put in your gloves and limit your flights to three circuits. That way you'll still be able to feel your thumbs when ya land!!! LMAO I HATE THIS DARN COLD!!!!!!![:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@] Aerobob was going to fly this week but the de-icer takes all of the color off of his planes!!

Yeah and I bet you guys enjoy it. That's because your foreheads have frozen! Go on vacation to somewhere warm until they thaw out and you'll never want to go home again!! LOL

Uhhhh, you live in Florida. BTW, I'm an old dude too and I live in Washington State. I hope you have a glacier move through there!!! LMAO As far as wind goes jump on to that "other site" and watch the video of the Tucson Shootout. Guys doing great 3D with a 25 mph wind at their backs and gusts up to 35. Now that's flying!!!!!!!! BTW, I hate to be the one to say it but, you guys sure get boring in the winter!!! Let's talk about SOMETHING interesting about this darn engine. We ain't allowed to tell jokes!!![

My turn, I'm old dude and the cold here in Mn sucks. I walked 80' to the mail box today and froze. Yesterday I borrowed a friends pickup and 35mph winds ripped loose his vinyl cover while out on the freeway by some open fields. I had all I could do to roll the thing up in the wind, and it was 18 degrees out. Fortunately, my wife and I just bought a place in Fort Myers, and will spend six months a year down there. I'm building my fleet of airplanes down there and have an almost complete Wildhare Sukhoi with a DL50 which has less than a gallon through it. Come January I'll be bringing my Hangar 9 Cap 232g to Fort Myers, it also has a DL50 on it with a couple of gallons through it. Darn, they will have to be retuned for the warm weather.

Just thought of something technical to talk about. The DL50 I mentioned that has less than a gallon through it was on another plane to start the break in process. The throttle linkage wasn't a very good setup, most of the power came in the first third of the stick movement. I readjusted the end travel of the wide open throttle position by reducing it until the rpm dropped, then increased it slightly. It flew fine, but when I went to run the fuel out of it so I could take the engine to Florida, it would not prime. I probably rotated the prop 100 times and still didn't get a pop. This is with the choke closed and the throttle stick all the way up. I finally increased the end travel of the wide open throttle position back to what originally was, after that it primed in about five rotations, and popped on the first flip with the ignition on. Moral of the story is the throttle plate needs to be wide open to get it to prime easily. BTW, this is with fuel in the tank. Once the engine was warmed up, I drained the tank and restarted the engine to get the fuel out of the carb.
The throttle linkage setup needs to be improved. I'm using the blue Hitec servo arm on the throttle, but it needs to be longer even with a small arm on the servo. What are the rest of you guys using for your setups. I'd like to get both the throttle end travel adjustments to at least 100%.

it is fun hanging on the prop when the wind is ripping, and watching the plane travel across the field, nose up. (the wind is your friend)
DL50 ... okay, ....tomorrow, I am going to attempt cutting the cowl to fit. I am not a great mechanic when it comes to building (hence ARF's) I have not had my new DL50 fired up yet. Was planning on doing it this weekend, but have not made it yet. Hope it is going to have enuff gonads to haul the GA around good.
Glaciers thru here??? aww come on ... give us old geeeeezers a break!![8D]
