i think it might take a while before thiese kits get up to speed with the weight of thiese new engines.most problems begin when engine swaps are made.a plane needs to be built around the engine.(weight & wing tube location) .worst case it is possible to relocate the wing tube on some models been thier done that

FWIW I have the H9 27% CAP232g with a DL50 in it and did nothing more than put the batts up in the engine box and used the pull-pull for the rudder like they suggest with a gasser. The CG is right where I want it with a roll to inverted on a 45 upline continues to climb for a bit then starts to level out. Just a slight bit of down needed to maintain level inverted. I had a lighter 45cc engine on it at first and the cg was at the rear suggested range. At that point it was almost hands off inverted, but still flyable. No added weight either way. I can't imagine adding 2 1/2 lbs to it.

i find the average pilot flies very nose heavy (safe) and the first time they get a kit that forces netural ballance or close to it.it makes them feel uneasy .some times all it takes is someone flying the same plane to fly yours and say its ok.netural ballance flies very differant than nose heavy

BOB by the way i could not agree more with your take on wing tube location.just trying to make the point that any problem could be solved.and most are created (setup for previous engine)

I guess I need to call Horizon and tell them about it.It was 2.2 lbs. my mistake. but that is still a lot of dead weight and hurts performance.

How much does your plane weigh? you must be way out of the recomended weight range and that will make youre cap a real handfull to fly!! I absolutely would not add over two lbs. to ANY plane!!![:'(]

telejojo,
I have flown the Hanger9 Extra 260 with a DA 50, and a DL 50.... I had to add weight to the tail of mine...
Did you epoxy your stab on the airframe?

Hey Guy's,
Does any one have the bearing # for the DL 50, Im not having problems with it yet but I would not mind replacing all three of them with a better grade type of bearings,
It was a bit windy her today 20 to 25 mph so I did not get to go flying so I elected to fire up my DL 50 and let it run to add to the breaking in period, It started up well and ran good and strong the only thing that I was shock a bought is that it ran for 36 minuts and 34 seconds at 1/3 throdel I think the fuel tank is 18 or 20 oz so I think that I can safely fly for 20 minuts I would not whant to go any more than that.
So if any one has the the bearing # please let me know many thanks

I recieved my DL50 on Friday and installed it on Saturday. What a great motor and Bob at DLUSA was great to work with. I am running a Vess 22B and out of the box it spins 6700RPM. It seems rich to me but would like some advise as to how to tune it properly for break in. What steps do I take to properly adjust the needles. I am running LawnBoy Ashless at 32:1. This is my first gasser so advise would be appreciated.

Tune the low speed needle for a clean transition and the high speed needle for max rpms. Then richen the high speed 200rpms. A good trick for setting the low speed is to lean it untill it bogs then richen it up to where it transitions well. And your done.

I used fish a fish scale to weigh it and I think they are way off 13lbs. I'am thinking more like 15 or 16.I'am pulling the DL off and putting it in my AEROWORKS yak and the Fuji 64 in the Cap, it weighs more than the DL so I can take out some weight.Right now it flys like crap and lands worse.

Hey guys, i just got done with 3 more flights on the DL. 8 in the past week. It is really starting to come to life. The idle is more reliable and the transition is much better since i did the carb vent whole mod. What i have really noticed is how easy it is to start. Last weekend i didn't even have to cholk it after each flight. Usually i requires a cholk anytime i try to start it after the engine had quit. Today, it caughed after 10 flips on the cholk and started right up after 3 flips. However, for the wrest of the day after that, it took one flip to start it. SWEET. I am noticing that after each flight it seems to be getting a little bit richer in the low end. Is this signs that the engine is breaking in and needs to be leaned a bit. I am comming up on 4 gallons. Really running sweet.

I finally started my DL today. I got one of the first ones in Feb 07. Unfortunatly it looks like I got one with the bad carb as it was very hard to start and only runs at low throtle settings, it is also very rough. I have one of the new ones ordered for another plane so I will have to swap the carb off of it and see if that makes it run right. I had heard about the carb problem with the early DL's and it looks like I got a bad one. [&o]

I received a new DL-50 from DLUSA about a week ago. Ran it for the first time yesterday. It took a while to start the first time but that was not unexpected. After it was running for 20 min. as outlined in the break in instructions it would accelerate smoothly and had good power. I am very happy with it. The only issue I have is a small pin hole where the stack is welded to the muffler can. It left a trail of residue down the length of the muffler.
My friend had ordered the engine on his credit card for me. I asked him to call DLUSA to ask if I should return it and have them record me as the owner. I guess they have people trying to get them to warranty engines they didn't sell. They gave my friend a little bit of a hard time but agreed to take the muffler back. I decided it was not worth the hassle so I will just use some JB Weld for now.
I'll send them a picture of the serial number and the email with the shipping info they send out so they will know we are not trying to scam them on warranty. I hope never to need warranty service, but that is why I got it from DLUSA. Next time I'll just mail a money order.

Flew my 29% Texas Hurricane last weekend with my new DL 50 and i love it. Starts easy and runs great. Bob at DLUSA was great to deal with. I am the first in my area to own one and i think a few more will be coming soon.

The bad carbs were around Feb of 07. If you have a bad one, it will die as soon as it is throttled up. You can either fix the one you have by using a tiny drill bit to drill out the high speed needle hole, or possibly contact DLusa.net and see if they will still replace them.
