Uh, make that 60 years vice 40 years, I am 73 and started U Control at age 13, with a K&B 29 and then FoX 35. Started RC in '83 with K&B 40. I had (have) a Super Champion 60 (fitted for glow) that I never flew but bench ran a few times, scary!!!

Actually that is a popular myth. Fluid flowing down a drain has no real preference for whether it circles clockwise or counterclockwise, whether it be down under or not so.[8D]

Hi guys would like your thoughts re keeping inverted saitos alight or the bottom cylinders on their GLO a radials at low rpm.Also what you did to tune any hesitation on throttle up.I found with a mates seidal 770 that it was'nt just the lower cylinders not firing but random order at low rpm.We added 10% petrol to the mix and it fired really well on all pots no matter how low you set the idle.Have also read that adding 2% acetone does nearly the same thing.Did i ask how much oil you are running with the proviso that no brands are mentioned please??

I probably should add that 10% synthetic and 3 castor is and looks well over lubed if you pull a backplate off or look at what comes out the tailpipe plus im 500 rich of peak always.

Pete, I can't address the inverted part of the question, I just don't run engines inverted. I run them mostly on their sides.. As to the triple etc, when I had a Saito .90 triple there was never an isue with dropping cylinders once the low speed needle was set optimally. The fuel in all cases was 15% fuel with 18% syn/castor blend two different brands, non that started with a C.

Hesitation on transition is a sign that the LSN is too rich..

Too lean & it will die.

The LSN being too rich will also cause cylinders to drop out.

I have run an FA150 & an FA91S inverted. As long as your start up routine is such that you avoid flooding the engine you shoulodn't have any issues.

I have a Saito .72 inverted in a Venus 40. Eleven years and hundreds of flights. +1 on the care not to flood it! 15% nitro, 17% all synthetic with 2 oz./gal. castor added. Response is instant - no stumble at all. Valves get checked about once a year it has the original bearings!

Jim- excellent testimony on a great Saito. I love mine even though it doesn't have a plane right now. A metal backplate from Hobby Plastics in England is supposed to be in the mail for it.

May I join your secret society?  it's taken a while for me to find you, but one of your members recently posted on a thread I've been watching and when I saw the signiture including his club number I wondered why I hadn't come across y'all.

I have dozzens of 4Cs, but my favorites are unquestionably my Saitos.  I have a FS-56, a 72, a 100, 2 120 and 2 120S.

G'day SSS members. I put my 12 year old Saito 56 in the test stand today for a little light exercise. She has been "resting" for some time now and her bearings were feeling slightly gummed so I decided to see if a run would help.

Filled up with my usual 10% nitro, 5% castor, 15% synthetic and 70% methanol and she leapt into life with the second hand flick. Tuned the HSN (as it had been removed in storage) and she was humming. Pulled her back to idle and she just puttered away. Wonderful. It really did reinforce why I like Saitos.

I have since screwed her into my 40 size Space Walker. Now all I need is for the northerly winds to go away for a while. At our field, we have a long, high wall of trees on our northern side and this can make landing no fun at all.
