May be true, but if he's happy I'm happy, it was a sweet running engine. It made music at that 2,110 rpm idle. Not so much at higher rpm. My last three OS-f plugs went with it.

I too need to find suitable screw drivers for the LS needle, I broke my last two getting the rocker pin out of the 115.

Probably like the fellow here on the Saitos thread who bought my brand new , in box FA-90TS for $100 , shipped

Or maybe they just never realize what a deal they got.

Dave, any idea what was going on with that 120R3? Very weak compared to Mike's, and his isn't even fully broke in yet.

Gaviscool makes excellent rings, properly heat treated and pre-tentioned.
He also has very fast shipping . Highly recommend .

So is it the Keleo or the prop that limits your peak? Mine idles low because of the prop and spinner mass. Going to swap out to the 3 blade 14 x 7 and see what it does.

About the same I have an appointment with the Cardiologist on 10/14 she wants to do some more tests. I may need to postpone it though, I got laid off work yesterday. The funding didn't come thru in time to extend our contract with the VA. I need to see when my insurance coverage ends and if I can afford Cobra. I'm taking it easier now so I don't trigger the chest pains as much. The kids are helping out with the lawn and such. I taught two of the boys appliance repair by sitting and watching while telling them what to do.

Dave, the three cylinder is a beautiful engine, I thinks it just needs more time to break in to get the numbers up.

Somewhere in the low 7K rpm range would be my best guess. If I'm correct, top speed on your 60 size Corsair with that prop would be around 45mph and falling out of the sky at anything less than 1/2 throttle. Not that it's any of my business Mike, but I do fly warbirds primarily.

I am a Senior Business Analyst, I have been working as a consultant on different projects for the Veteran Administration for the past 11 years. Did a lot of COVID stuff this past year. I have also been working in an unpaid position with the ACTS COVID-19 Guidance Collaborative on the side. A lot of it is way over my head but its interesting stuff.

Yes I do know, a three blade prop is the reason for that.

Oh I must have a REALLY good one then.

MAS 14 x 7 x 3

Peak 9000 backed off 3 clicks from full peak
Idle 1800

This is at 55* temps too, took a bit to fully warm up and stay running. BTW those numbers are without the OBG active, all on it's own, I also had it idling at 1900-2000 for well over a minute without the glow powered up. No more cylinder drops. Very happy with how it is running and man is it a mess now! There is oil all over the Workmate, the PSP, the ground and me.

I didn't miss that it was a 3 blade.

Your 120R3:
13x6 3B at 8310 calculates to .991 hp
Mike's 120R3:
14x6 2B at 9200 calculates to 1.292 hp

That's a very significant difference.

Congrats Mike, big power if that's actually a 14" prop.

14x7 3B at 9100 calculates to 2.043 hp.
13x6 3B at 9100 calculates to 1.301 hp
14x5 2B at 9400 calculates to 1.148 hp (Benchmark Prop)

It's a 14

Just noticed how tight the spinner is, can't really tell without my big readers, guess I should trim it a little bit so the spinner doesn't crack.

I just thought about it, the engine will be put aside and wont be run again until hopefully spring when the plane is done, hows the best way to flush the fuel and crud out? Especially the Castor, don't want it getting gummy over the winter.

Gary your link to the ford exploder/explorer has a different meaning down here ( engines )

Lonnie i set the fa200r3 valve clearances with a cigarette paper ( what tobacco was your grand daddy who lived to 94 years old smoking? i want to order that in bulk ) prior to the first run, slipped the rod back in and cranked it up again, no more drama's. I think as the small rod ends polish themselves and the rocker cups the oil film then partly holds them too.

Bruce congrats on the fa120r3. Try not to let the spinner touch ANY part of the prop i always cut them to have at least a mil clearance.

Dave i can chug, oh, several beers and a hand rolled cigar while listening to any saito fa radial idle, best sound in the world with stubby pipes or a keleo ring, the flex pipes are to quiet for me. The fa325 in particular does not sound so good at higher revs.
