Hi Alan.. yes its balast, but just for keeping the nose down while i build.... it will be removed when engine is mounted.
I cant find a robart nosestrut anywhere here in denmark, and shipping for such a thing is as much as its costs at Tower Hobbies.... Any of U have one laying around willing to ship to denmark???? Think shipping for private persons is cheaper than for compagnies.
Made the nose sheeting today.... need to cut out for the antiglareshield now, and then the fuselage is 95% woodready... ready for sanding and filler, and then fiberglass
Now my buildingtable looks like a war..... perhaps a note and a piece of chocolate to my cleaninglady will do the trick..

Thanks Alan....
got the table cleaned... had to do it my self. As my cleaninglady dont come until next tuesday. But hey.. i found a missing piece of balsa ive been looking for...
I got the antiglare shield done today. Works pretty good and gives the nose a nice look. Almost ready for fiber covering now. Need some more work on the dorsal fin.
I have never put fiber on a plane before so thats gonna be fun to do.. haha

Oemfod,
All I can say is WOW! I looks really good. I have never done a fiberglass covering either. I am building a 1/5 cub now and am going to use sig koverall. That will be very interesting.
Keep up the good work.

Thnx again Alan... and please but a link to ur build thread,,, like to see what ure up to on the buildingtable...
I found a robart 654 nosegear hidden on the rack at a danish dealer.. Good work christian.. but just to let u guys know what we pay for our stuff here,,, it was 97 $
The mounting plate for the nosegear needed some work. The one provided by TF was to small so i made up some basswood blocks to fit on either side of the old one. Ill sand them into right angle when the epoxy has set.
When im going to cover it in fiberglas i was told that its best to pull the epoxy off with a creditcard, but i think my bankteller wont take my creditcard after, so i brought home some simcard holders from work. I have 600 of them in a bow... Never even knew why i saved them in the first place but now they come in handy.
Heres the pictures of todays work.. It only toke one beer to make the blocks and fit them.

If your looking to make it as scale as possible, the front nose gear should rake forward a bit. The kit has it as a straight vertical. To get it to slant forward, your mount needs to have an angle planed on it.
Glad you were able to find yourself a 654. Definitely a nice addition to this plane.

Thanks Paul.. i think i came up with some angle forward... Thanks for the reminder.
Alan, i saw the thread of ur cub... thats pretty woodwork too.
I got the nosegear mounted today. Not easy to fit 4 blindnuts under the tank in the fuse, but i got it done.
Spot glued the support on the angled block, then marked the holes, and now its mounted.
it actually look so much better than the pianowire gear supplied by top flite. Even without any detailing done the the strut yet..

Hi Guys
I havent been building much. Im testing epoxy+fiberglas covering on samples. I ordered some epoxy in germany from R&G but i ordered the wrong hardener. I got the one who for laminating 15mm pieces. It need 24 H normal curetime and then baked 15 H at 60 degrees. I talked to R&G who said that when used for these thin layers we use for covering with fiberglass it might cure normally, but it then needs ALOT more time to cure. So i made 2 samples now. One that it sitting by the heather in the livingroom at a higher temp than normal. I made that one yesterday at 1900 H. The surface is now non sticky and semi hard. Ill check again at 1900 when it had 24 H curetime.
Today i made a sample and placed it at normal temp. about 20-22 degrees. that one has cured 24 H tomorrow at 1400 H.
I really hope it works out, else i have to order new hardener from Germany... shipping is expensive... [

Oemfod,
At this time I am sealing the wood on my cub. I now have 3 coats on now. Tonight I hope to put on the fabric. This will be a first for me.
I'll try to post some pictures later. Wish me luck, and you too.

Hi guys; Thought I would get in on this discussion on the Top Flite Cessna 182 as I have built one 2 yrs. ago. I installed my servoes in the stock location and wish I hadn't. The next time I'll install them under the interier. Sorry about not having any pictures to post but if you look in the Sept. 2007 of Model Aviation there is a picture of mine, if not Sept. it could have been Aug. but any way it's yellow, black and white and the vert. stab is checker board. I finished mine with .02 carbon tissue and dope. This saves alot of time because of the amount of sanding you don't have to do. As for the interier I painted mine with 2 differant shades of gray primer and for the the floor I used gray felt. Also on the back of the front seats I made a magazine pouch and used cut outs of magazine pitchures and placed them in the pouch. If you have any ? about my build and would like to know more you can reach me through my e-mail. capncookiecutter@hot mail.com. jc16057

JC,
Welcome to our little world.
Oemfod,
Well I got some koverall on the bottom of both wings last night. It went on great!, and shrinks up real nice. The only problem I have is cutting a straight edge. I wonder if when I fill the weave fi the mating over lap will show. Here are two pictures.

Alan... looking good with the covering... Nice handywork
Im back in business,,, had some problems with the building power.. but i got it back now...
Ordered some epoxy from R&G and is now preparing the wood for the covering with fiberglass... i really hate sanding and filling... ARGGHHH! But it has to be done i guess.
Also made the leading edges of the tail surfaces... There must be an easier way than sanding and carving,,,
Heres the pictures from today.. And may i say.. U guys in the states have the coolest pilot ever... Sully Rules!!!! That was a sweet landing..

The elevator and rudder is now covered with fiber. Pretty easy thing to do when U get the hang of it i think.
Made the last woodwork on the fuse also. the dorsal fin. Glued it on and sanded it to almost shape... then some filler and more sanding....

Looking good! I'm around the same stages as you on my 182 kit and decided to cover it with fiberglass. Already primed and sanded down the covered rudder and it feel great! I'm just unsure of what paint to use yet. What kind of fiberglass sheeting are you using?

hii... good choice to use fiberglass... gives a good base for detailing and strenght. im using 25 grams cloth. very smooth texture.
going to paint mine with the same paint used for cars. it gives a good surface and only need a thin coat to cover.
do u have pictures of ur build.. feel free to put em here.

Covered the topside of the tail today. Here“s the progress. I cut the fiber with a good amount of overhang, then i apply a good amount of epoxy and even it out with the mixing stick. Let it sit for a couple of minutes to soak the epoxy into the fiber. . Then i pull the excess epoxy off. After about 3 hours of curetime i go the covering over and make sure corners and edges are okay.

Hiii
Yeaah.. some things still happening on the Skylane... Our shootingrange has reopened after winther. so im praticing IPSC again..
I have hinged the tail surfaces with robart pinhinges. Pretty easy to work with i think. The wing has been run over with some filler.. not many spots needed it so that good.
Covered the wing with glas, just need to make the edges and cover the flaps and ailerons. That will be next.
The fuselage needs to be covered also with glas. Only the tail, dorsal fin is covered at this point.
