FS One by Hangar 9

powerlines - Thanks for the update. I'm going to speculate that what
might also be happening is that the jack on the inside of the Tx is
spaced in too far....
DiscoWings - There is a version w/o a controller. It works w/ G3 out of
the box. My recommendation is to get the one w/ the controller for
smooth sailing (less setup time). Here's more info:
I have the G2/G3 controller. How can I use that with FS One? (Q1009-FS1)
http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/#Q1009-FS1
CessnaFan - With the FS One installation, the small scaled down
airplanes do have the breakable parts turned off. The reason is that
these small parts can sometimes go unstable. This only happens w/ the
small-ish planes (e.g. wingspans ~15 inches or less). For larger
planes, we did not turn off breakable parts.
The Scaling Wizard works like this. Step one is to make edits to the
basic airplane using all the menus except the last two that are the
"Scaling" menus. So you can take a baseline airplane and change the
weight from say 5 lbs to 8 lbs. As long as you do no scaling (using the
"Scaling" menus), then you get an 8 lb airplane like you'd expect. If
however you then enter the "Scaling" menus and change the size from the
original 100% to 130%, then the 8 lb weight that you set is scaled up
accordingly. So in effect there are two knobs on the weight - the first
one you set, and the second ("Scaling") is figured out for you if you
use the "autoscaling" on the weight in the "Scaling" menu. I know this
will sound like "Greek" to anyone w/o FS One. Sorry about that.
Crater Meistro - That's right what you said: "FSOne will create a copy
of that model of which I can tweak rather than messing with (or messing
up) the original." Again, I'm recommending the one w/ the Tx (this goes
double for people just starting out).

Just finished loading FS-One to both of my computers. Loading took ~50 minutes for each comp. After installing, I ran the latest 1.0.4 revision.
This gives the results of two setups that work with FS-One.
The simulator runs fine on both machines with no problems. You do need the FS-One controler to be inserted into the USB bus of the machine that you want to run the simulator on. I will probably use the laptop for most of the time.
This is a very good simulator and I believe that given a few months to mature that it could be one of the best.
Below is the short results of running dxdiag.com and saving the results.

I don't know if this is a problem specific to my computer or what else might be going on, but I have a 3.06 ghz Pentium 4 processor with 1.5 gb RAM and a 256 mb Nvidia 6800GT, but when I turn on turbulent wind, the simulation lags. I run the simulation with everything at the default settings (high) and at 1280x1024 resolution (full screen). I know I could turn the graphics down to solve the problem, but from reading others' posts, it would seem that it shouldn't be necessary. I have an Audigy ZS sound card, and if I turn hardware acceleration up then the visuals go smoothly, even with wind, but there is the already known sound bug to contend with....any suggestions?

When you press 'f', what is the frame rate that you get (see upper left of screen)?
The turbulence wind is the most computationally intensive in the sim.
It also depends on what airplane you're flying and what site. The Ultimate TOC is THE most demanding aircraft in the simulator for both graphics and aerodynamics. The Firebird is the least demanding. So if you can report back the frame rate, plane and site, that will give us more info.
The sim will also run faster if you turn OFF 'sync to vertical refresh'. Maybe you've already done that.

For a broken TacCon, Horizon Hobby Product Support is the place to call (@ (877) 504-0233). Your sim is under warranty for things like that. They can get you going again.

I did already have the v-sync off. With no winds, it runs at about 70 fps..with 4 mph turbulent winds, it gets sucked down to 13 fps [X(] I wouldn't think there'd be that much difference.

That performance is very puzzling.
On our HP system (Pentium D 2.8 GHz w/ 1 GB RAM and GeForce 6600 w/
256 MB, 1.5 yr old system) we get these kind of results:
Ultimate TOC at 3D Plainfield site on the runway
80 Hz (no turbulence)
45 Hz (w/ turbulence, your same case)
Again the Ultimate TOC is the most demanding of computer resources.
Edge 540 at 3D Plainfield site on the runway
95 Hz (no turbulence)
65 Hz (w/ turbulence, your same case)
Your computer is better than ours. It should be faster.
We've never seen a case where things go from 70 fps to 13 fps like you
see.
What's your front side bus? 800 Mhz probably .... and that's good.
Have you updated your graphics drivers? I don't know if that will change
things however. Turbulence takes CPU, not GPU.

Michael - Why do you only get 2 or 3 crashes with the helicopters? After the second or third, it won't reset with power to the rotors. I have to press escape and select "FLY" again.

What happening is that the heli crash is hard enough to kill the engine, so you need to restart it w/ 'j'.

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and just purchased the FSOne Simulator, installed it on a HP a630n pc with no problems, have a new ATI X1300 video card. After calibrating the controller, I tried to fly the Stryker. It would hand launch fine and then instantly reset after about 1 second. Tried a second plane on a ground launch, and the plane would not move and the sound would cut in and out. Anybody else have this problem, and if so how did you fix it?
#513
Here's the solution: Install the latest patch, and then recalibrate (follow the instructions carefully). When you do calibrate, but sure to push the buttons on the TacCon controller.
The patch is here www.fsone.com

Heli lessons - yes, it's coming.
To Everyone -
For the people just installing, here's a tip on resetting the default camera views:
http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/#Q1031-FS1
Using the lagged views mentioned in the FAQ will make things more realistic view-wise.

FPS problems aside, I still really enjoy this sim. I would like to know exactly how to figure out how to configure the cg..I know I go into mass and enter a number, but what do the numbers mean (0.30 fore/aft, for example)

You will have to put a - and then .1 for one tenths.. I fly the funtana 90 with -.100 and -.080 it seems to fly OK there. If you want it to hover like real life then you will have to put the hover training on 8 or so. I still can't get the funtana to fly slow. I have the real 90 and the new 100X and they are slow and low. REal easy to fly..

The info above is correct. In the mass menu, putting in a positive number moves the c.g. forward. A negative number moves it back. Setting the value equal to 0.0 will put the c.g. at the location published by Horizon in their manuals or for non-Horizon planes at the measured c.g. location. When the airplanes were finally all checked out, the c.g. on some was moved a bit forward or backward in some cases.
So, for instance, if an airplane feels nose heavy move the c.g. back by making the number smaller (subtract off an increment).

I know that it's been stated already in this thread that more planes are being developed for this sim, but would it be out of line to actually make requests? I have the H9 60 size p-47 and would love to have it modeled for this sim. It would also be nice to have more propeller and engine options, as well as better engine sounds. I don't want anyone to think that I am complaining, I absolutely love this sim (I kept this one and sold my G3), but no one said that it hurts to try and improve a good thing. I know that we can use the scaling wizards to make propellers and such, but there is a difference between brands, such as Master Airscrew and APC, of the same size. It would be nice to be able to pick things like that from a drop-down menu rather than getting an engineering degree to "build" my props. I have a 14x7.5 Graupner prop and a ST G90 engine on my plane, for example, and I think it would take quite a bit of "fiddling" to get that combination set up. Still, I'll keep flying this sim because it is the best, as far as I'm concerned. I've owned AFPD, G3.5, and FS1, and FS1 is the only one I still have because of it's fidelity.

I too would like to see more drop down options for powerplants. The Saito 1.25 sould be in the Funtana. All Saito's for that matter should be available. Hoping an expansion pack will be avail soon with every combo known. A 220 would be nice too. Not complaining either. I wanted to take this sim stuff to the next level and try to compete this year. Got myself a 46" LCD 1080p tv and new graphics card just for this sim, I need more options for airplanes and such. Had the sim and tv for a week now and went flying today. Elevators are very easy now especially inverted. My G2 taught me to fly and now my FS one will teach me to compete.
