Default Need AMT engine/ECU programming help !!

AMT engine experts please see my post on the AMT engine clinic post. I think I need some sort of wire harness with push button ("SET") button so I can program an auto start AMT USA ECU. Hoping to fly this weekend but wont be able to if we cant figure out how to do the radio teach on the ECU. Thanks

Is your engine from AMT Netherlands or AMT USA? Is it electric start or Airstart? It will also help if you can post a photo of the ECU. Do you have an EDT, or are you trying to work with the beeps from the ECU?

Electric auto start from AMT USA. No EDT. I was actually able to start the engine just fine with the command from the transmitter, but not throttle it. It just sat there running at idle. We need to teach the ECU and we should be good to go.

Check your throttle end points and idle setting. Set to 100/100 and no sub trim . Idle must be 0. When you turn on you should get beeps automatically if you're using single channel operation. If using two channel operation you have to do the beeps manually each start. If the ecu is a stock one there is no teaching needed.

Actually, when we used the older AMT USA ECU's (no electric start), we had to teach them every time you powered them on. For 2 channel operation, you went from stop, to middle (run, I think), to the end (shutdown?) with the aux channel and you got a beep when it recognized each position (no beeps, no start). Then you went 0% to 100%, to 0% on the throttle and you got a beep at each endpoint. Then you start, and all is well...

Brian, look up and download the AMT Netherlands V2 ECU and take a look at page 7-12 ish.. I think what you need is the CTF button.

http://www.amtjets.com

go to download drop down and look at V2 ECU.

What do you mean "idle must be 0" ?

You bet, happy to help.

if you had an EDT you could verify 0% = idle 100% = full throttle

Set throttle channel throw 100% /100%

low rate beep is off
mid rate beep is shut down ( with momentary cool down )
high rate beep is run

should be the same as an old style ECU

Mmmmhhhh, I doubt that the AMT Netherlands V2 ECU is anything like what you have and will be extremely surprised if you need a CTF button. I think the CTF button came along well after AMT USA had disappeared and I don't think the technology got shared once USA Microjet started operating.

Bob you are correct with gen 1 ecu. However, he has gen 2 ecu. With single channel operation it does the calibration on its own. There are two leads that control throttle and engine control. Be very careful with the labeling. Plug the throttle lead into throttle channel. The other, usually marked with a round of tape is for second channel engine control. I leave this one unplugged and the ecu operates on a single channel. When you power up it goes through the calibration and you get start clearance. Run the trim up and then then the throttle. Engine starts. After started drops to idle move throttle stick to down position. Then you have control. Go fly.

Probably right regarding not being required or compatible but worth a try as this ECU is "similar" in operation to the Netherlands ECU. I'm pretty sure AMT USA was still in operation , although limited, when AMT NL began using the CTF button, but I could easily be mistaken.

Brian, good luck with getting it up and running.

Got my problem partially solved. I have plugged in the second connector to my Aux 2 channel and can get throttle to respond with this configuration. We tried increasng the throw of the throttle channel to 120% to see if that would allow me to use single channel operation but still no luck. Certainly at a disadvantage trying to do all of this with no EDT.

How many different versions of EDT are there ? Will an older version work for this gen 2 ECU or do I have to have a newer version ??

More progress this morn.. Finally got single channel operation working more or less. Not exactly sure why but I had to reduce channel throw in the tx on the low throttle side by 5%. After doing so I am now able to control engine RPM with the throttle stick like it should be. Doesnt seem like the normal shutdown is working exactly right, engine wont shut down untill trim is lowered all the way to the bottom and then there is no auto cooling but by rasing the trim or stick, ( I forget which one).

still need to tweak the throws a little. for normal shutdown, lower the trim slowly, when you get to the right spot (normally the middle) the engine will rev slightly for a few seconds then will shut off and start cooling sequence when rpm gets to about 2500. you are getting emergency shutdown which is past normal shutdown.
