We are launching a new level of sponsorship for the United States Jet World Masters Team. You now have a very substantial way to congratulate each of the pilots for their efforts.
The new level is "Team VIP".
For a minimum donation of $1,000 the Team VIP will be entitled to wear the U.S. Team Uniform (which will be provided by the Team) with your name and "Team VIP" embroidered in gold thread over one pocket.
All of our pilots are very serious about this competition and will be flying some truly outstanding jets as you may have seen in other threads here on R/C Universe.
Let's really get behind our U.S. Jet World Masters Team! Support their efforts in Hungary this summer by becoming a Team VIP today!
Send me a PM for all the details for becoming a Team VIP or any questions you may have.
These are pictures of the Team uniform shirt. It has a matching lightweight jacket (not shown) and hat:

I don't know about others, but I am sick fed up with this site being used to drum up cash for the US jet teams trip to the world masters.
Like most other countries teams if they want to compete, then let them pay there own way.
It is becoming more like a commercial enterprise with each new cash raising gimmick that appears here.
It's about time the moderators said, enough is enough.
I will probably get flamed, but it is really getting to much.
Regards

I kind of agree with Jim on this one. Look at the facts, the guy's that are big time into jets, are not short on $$...10k and up for a bird ain't chicken feed. If you can afford several airplanes of that caliber, then you can afford to foot your own bill to events, whether they are here in the USA or elsewhere. Also, it's not like sponsoring say an olympic team where you would get a massive amount of exposure for your $$ investment. Don't get me wrong, I am all for supporting the guy's in spirit...but financially for this one, I too would have to opt out.

Bout time. At least two of the guys on that team are millionaires that I know of. It's kinda like Benny Hinn getting the stones to ask my mom to "give til it hurts" when he's wearing a $5k suit, a $20k watch and flying around on his private 737! LOL.....

Thanks, Ghost_Rider! See you at the Winamac event???
Thank you everyone who supports us, even if its just words of encouragement! I know everyone is busting ***** to get their planes ready. I know mine is comming along nicely. Im too busy to post pics, but it's starting to look like a finished airplane.
P.S. Nobody made you come to this link. It's not like the WJM team is ringing your phone while you are eating dinner....

I can't believe some of the comments here! Why shouldn't they look for support to go? They're going there for personal reasons sure, but they're going there to support the USA. You think Michael Schumacher doesn't make millions of dollars? They still have sponsorship, why shouldn't these guys? It's not like they're going to Superman just to have fun or show off their birds.
I don't know any of the guys going personally, I don't know if they're millionaires or not, but that doesn't matter to me. I just think it's cool that there are people who want to devote the time and effort it takes to build and fly a world class scale model and go support RC jet modelling period. Every team who flies at world events tries to get sponsorship, not everyone is millionaires.
Schools do fundraising so kids can go on ski trips, well, when I was in school there were kids who were millionaires too and still did the fund raising. The simple answer is, if you don't want to support anything then don't! Nobody held a gun to your head and said click on this link.
Good God, every organization in the world probably does fundraising for what some people would consider "extracurricular" events, maybe RC Jets won't cure cancer, but it's no different than racing cars or motorbikes and all those teams have corporate sponsorship.
If you don't want to contribute then don't, I for one am glad to see representation for the US, and I'm from Canada for crying out loud!
We at RCjet.net are holding a raffle in support of the WJM, I'm donating a large dollar paint finish on a Sniper, why? because I love this hobby and any chance I get to support the best country in the world (my own opinion) in a hobby I love is something I'm going to do!

I agree Jeremy. Thanks for your support. By the way of the 6 pilots, I have met 3 of them. They all seem to be great guys, and if they are millionaires, they don't act like. The whole idea is to create a situation whereby it does not require you to be a millionaire to compete, it helps equal the playing field.

Hmmm...I see your point about not discouraging others, and it is well taken. My comments weren't meant in that vein. Last time I checked though, these were "public" forums and wether we agree or disagree with your thoughts/ideas, we are entitled to present our individual points of view. To turn the leaf, if you don't want to read an opposing opinion, then you should solicit privately not in public forums. Maybe part of the what you interpret to be anti-jet sentiment, is really a bit of envy? That is partly true on my part, I envy the amount of $$ that these guys have to put into their planes and equipment. I hope that someday in the not too distant future that I will be able to get in on the turbine craze...I drool over the new Airworld Mig-21!!!
Part of it is probably perception, a lot of jet jocks are perceived and rich, snobby guys, when this is probably just a really tight fraternity as so much is required to get these babies up in the air and maintain them...also there are limited fields to fly off of so they are more frequently together...again these are just perceptions I'm not saying they are true. Also, it is a common perception that most of these guys have corporate sponsors as well?
I think, jet guys should, instead of complaining about our misperceptions or misunderstandings, you should try to educate us.
By the way Jeremy, you made a very good point about sponsorship and fund raising, but most fund raising for schools etc. is for non-profit organizations...is it not? Seems a little different to me?

To all who have shown their support for the team either morally, financially or both THANK YOU so much. I look forward to going to Hungary and doing the best I can to represent the USA. Its been difficult to find practice time lately between work and family and I can feel the pressure as the time nears to leave. Its been a tough haul so far getting everything ready and trying to keep it all together in one piece and I don't just mean the plane. I will try to post more pictures of the progress of the second plane and how my practices are coming along.
Katchmarek, your right its a public forum and everyone has a right to express their opinions. I may or not agree with everyone but at least we have place where we can express our thoughts. As for jet guys being snobs, I don't think they are snobs, the ones I know are some of the nicest people I have met. I have gotten to know many so called jet guys most of them I now call friends. Although being one, I might be a little bias. I know the team has corporate sponsors, but I don't know of any individual having a corporate sponsor. The only direct sponsor I have had from day one has been myself. I think that true of all of the guys on the team. We have all put a tremendous time, effort and money into this project. I have also done what I can to support the team in donations and efforts to raise funds and offers to help other members. I think thats what teams do, help each other to be more than what we can accomplish individually.
As for being rich or wealthy and not needing the support of others, I don't know what everyone's financial position is in life. All I know is its costing a boat load to get there and back, but your right I signed up for the job. I knew what this would cost and had started making plans for it early on, in case I made the team. I personally am ready, but it would be nice to see some support, if not financially, at least morally. I think knowing we have the support will make a difference once we are there. Its you choice to support the team or not. You can show your support morally or financially or both or not at all, nobody is forcing anybody.
As for fund raisers, I think the raffle was a good way of doing things. It gives the general public a way to support the team and a chance to get something out of it also. Its not only the non profits that do fund raisers to raise cash for their goals.
Just my .02 on the matter

Very nicely put Sung.
My take is that if the 2 RCU members from Cyprus could raise funds here, they would.
This would not be a good vehicle to get the word out to Cyprusonians or Cyprusites. However, there are at least 35 or 40 members from the U.S. on here
I sense a little "star spangled" envy going on...but we're all getting used to that, right?
Jeremy, you're welcome here anytime bud...but only if you bring me some puck dammmit! I wants me my hockey back!

Hi Guy's, Well, I guess I have to eat some crow about now
I've had a bit of correspondence via PM's with Tommy, and I now understand how the team functions. As I told Tommy, I believe a lot of the "negative" stuff said regarding jet jocks is misperception, and misunderstanding, not to mention a good dose of envy to top it off. Sure there are snobs and buttholes in every aspect of out hobby, and everything else in life for that matter. It's just that RC enthusiasts tend to be several groups of close knit people, jet guy's, warbird guys, 3D guys, pattern guys and so on. Myself, I'm a warbird guy, as are a lot of jet guys...but my thing has been WWII prop driven birds for as long as I can remember. Just last summer the jet bug started biting me...and when I saw the new Airworld Mig-21 it became a full blown obsession for a few weeks. Actually untl I realized a few things...I don't have a turbine waiver, I don't have a DF time to speak of, and most of all, at this point in time it's just not in my budget...so what does that equal? Envy, at least for me it does. Any way, I would like to appologize if I offended anyone, it was not my intention. I do support the US team morally, and if I could afford it I would financially as well. I think my misperception of "jet guy's" in general has been set straight by Tommy. With a little luck, in a year or two maybe I'll be one of you guys that are envied by others too

Well, I dunno, seems to me fundraising to send the kids on a ski trip or camp of some sore is no different than sending pilots to the WJM to represent a country. Last I checked, flying model jets was about as non-profit as you can get LOL

Paul & others,
Envy does not enter into it. We are only going with one jet (if it is ready) & happy to pay all the costs ourselves.
All I am trying to put across is, this is supposed to be a hobby, not a commercial enterprise.
Raffles & the like are fine, but it has now developed into a business venture. Shirts for sale at $1,000. I suppose there is one born every minute
If anyone else tried to sell merchandise on this site, the moderators would shut them down in an instant.
I don't see any other country attending the masters commercialising the hobby in this way.
However, as usual this is the american way of doing things.
I wish you team all the best. I am sure you will have some lovely jets.
Regards

Is alright asking for support, don't give importance to such statements.-
Good Luck from the Caribbean!

Jeremy, Tommy has me seeing things a bit differently than I did first off. However, you're statement
"Well, I dunno, seems to me fundraising to send the kids on a ski trip or camp of some sore is no different than sending pilots to the WJM to represent a country. Last I checked, flying model jets was about as non-profit as you can get LOL "
doesn't sit too well with me. Fund raising for the school ski trip is for children / students not adults to fund their hobby. Fund raising for student activities allows for those students who come from lower income families to participate in and ennjoy these activities discretly without the stigma of coming from a lower income family. Could be a middle income family too, but they can't afford the extra $$ to send little Joey on the trip, because Dad had to buy a new turbine
Also, I don't see many guy's flying turbines that can't afford too. Sure some are on a budget, maybe even a tight one...but come on, there is a huge difference here between the Jet team and the school ski trip. If you don't see it then maybe maybe you should take a reality check LOL.
