won,t the fore and aft stability come from his lower body weight hanging below the point of thrust?.. seems to me it may be better to have something under the arm pits where he would hang, with more weight lower for best stability.

.....also if it fails... how much for one turbine?
- Nasty, but ROFLMAO!!!!

I'll give the guy credit for trying it, but even a two minute flight time makes it impractical - unless you can "juice" an elephant.

And if you could get to 100 MPH, you still have to slow down = time and fuel... then, as you burn the fuel, you get lighter....so many things to think about - stability in windy conditions....is it self-stabilizing in calm conditions?

An "inescapable pinwheel" comes to mind. And losing one engine...God...what if you lost two? On the same side????? - Hello, trees! One on each side? - Hello, garden!...Pavement.....Garbage-truck - whatever.....

All the moving parts......why not Lockwood-Hiller Valveless jobs???? much simpler...

His hand control system, lack of any kind of crash/fire protection... even a tethered flight...for someone who replies so confidently to questions posted on ebay I don't think he's thought much about coming down period.

Is this guy REALLY going to try this himself???

And if it's publicized, will it have any impact on the turbine end of our hobby???

i beleive he did say somewhere he was doing a tethered test first. surely he is not that crazy. sure he's going to test it himself , who else would?........................ i think i'll try strapping my comp-arf rookie II to my back, and jump off a cliff, think about it, i could have the tx i my hands and control myself.. and i'd never go out of range.

I'm telling you guys, I say this is pure scam. He is not ever going to actually try to fly this (unless he is off-the-scale stupid or crazy). No one could be that careless, it is so obviously un-safe. None of our model turbines is even CLOSE to man-rated. Then when you put 8 in parallel.... JEEEEZZZZZZ, the odds of a failure go through the roof!

Scam, and nothing but!

Awe come on.................All he has to do is add 8 UATs and the reliabilty goes WAY up! Almost enough for LUDICROUS SPEED!

Methinks it's a SCAM..................Either that or "Shock and Awe" in Ohio!

What if you combined Carbuncle's idea with the parachutist that used the Red bull wing to glide over the english channel after being dropped out of a balloon. He could use a pylon with the turbines up near his shoulders, & steer using elevons controlled by his transmitter. You would probably still need to ROG but just use a skateboard as a dolly.

What's the spool up time on one of these engines??

Just thinking, like if your coming down, vertically, then..... when do you rev up... chuckle.

Army and Law Enforcement....... imagine, having broken into the bank....... stealthily running away at the back when suddenly

JETPACK MAN. Stand aside citizen while I make the arrest.... Whhhhooooooosssshhhhhhhh

I am pursuing this felon in a vehicle, I'll just tap on the drivers window and get him to stop

Actually you would not find many police officers volunteering for this........

Be interested to know from AMT if they sold these engines, or if he has had them made as just the outer cases.

Reading the Jetman site seems they have very little to say about the technology but that it only last for 1/2 minute, and is steam powered, so is more rocket than jet like.

Whilst at one of the UK jet events a guy there had a rocket shaped model with a turbine at the bottom, and was developing puffer valves and electronics to be able to get this baby to hover. At least it looked a lot safer!!!!

Bu then genius and madness are quite close just as a fool being easily parted with his money.

Think I'll choose a new name... Icarus, remember the story!!

I would think that the throttle-lag issue here is a non-issue. You would always be, while in-flight (assuming it could ever really fly), at a mid to high throttle setting. So spool-up time to even max thrust would be almost instantaneous.

I find it really odd that he says the jetpack "can" fly 3 mins, and "is capable" of blah, blah, etc.... He should have said "will and will be capable" blah blah.. A little too much pudding before the proof.. I'm keeping mine a secret untill it works..

Any flight report from the 01/06/06 flight test?

Well from checking his website it appears he is approaching ludacris speed. Some updates include stating it has, "a 4 mile range in all directions".....hmmmmm I can just hear Bill Engvall now. "Here's your sign."

Another great quote now on the site would be, "With the help of the engines from R/P International Jets out of Cincinnati, I have turbines that I feel safe enough, and that are powerful enough to accomplish this goal."

And last but not least here is the latest on test. "Electronic control units need a program change made, static test moved to 1/9/06 weather permitting."

This is good stuff too. From eBay.

Q: HI IV'E ALWAYS HAVE HAD A GREAT INTREST IN AVIATION. WHEN FINDING THIS SITE ON EBAY I MONITOR IT THROUGH OUT THE DAY TO SEE IF YOU SUPPLIED US THE BIDDERS WITH NEW PHOTOS OF YOUR SUCCESFUL FLIGHT TO PROVE TO US THE BIDDERS THAT YOU ARN'T OFF YOUR ROCKER!!!!. OH THE OTHER THING I WAS WONDERING WAS WHEN YOU PUBLISHED THAT ALL 8 ENGINES AT FULL CAPACITY WOULD DELIVER 360LBS OF THRUST, AND THE WEIGHT OF YOU THE PIOLIT WAS 200 LBS + ultimate flight machine weight of 105 lbs total weight of 305 lbs. NOW WE HAVE A MERE 55LBS OF POSITTIVE THRUST TO DO THE LIFTING INTO THE AIR . ALL KIDDING ASIDE IS THAT REALLY ENOUGH THRUST TO GET YOU OFF THE GROUND . THANKS FOR A REPLY JOE MD

A: The amount of positive weight will determine you rate of accent. For example, if I only had 1 oz of positive lift I would rise very slowly. If I had twenty pound of positive weight it would be a much more rapid accent. I haven’t done a study on this as far as physics go so I don't know if it would be linear or a nonlinear correlation in the rate of assent. Thanks for the question planeguy1128.

So no study done on the physics of lift, the only flight characteristic of the jet pack.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm[]

I love how the amount of thrust determines his accent ... so with 1 lb of thrust he speaks with a Spanish accent, with 2lb he has a Russian accent etc ... that's a phenomenal talent that he has there !

D'ya think he should tell Hugh Heffner & John Travolta about his design ? I'm sure they'd love to have these as safety devices in place of parachutes, for getting back to earth safely after the Starjet comes apart due to flutter.

Here is the latest, "36 degrees out side, air start system cannot function properly. Electric start units would not have this problem, could not afford them for this prototype." That was posted on his site. Looks as though he is post poning until tomorrow. Can anyone vouch that this is true of an air start system on a US built AMT? I'm just curious as I have no experience with AMT.

I ran my airstart AMT-USA AT-450's in the hangar at 30 degrees (and 6200' MSL) tonight. Propane had even cold-soaked in the hangar all day. Definitely not a problem.

I had my first balky start in almost a year Sunday. Turns out I had a fouled glow plug. Wire was OK, but lots of carbon buildup. Started fine with a new plug. That plug had 13 hours and 50 starts on it. Guess it was time for a new one. I put 45 minutes on the engines in one flight Sunday. Cruise is about 80 knots on 50% power.

personally, I'd like to see him do it.. maybe he can get motors that are manned rated and do it right.. u must agree the technology is here., it will be done, better than it has been done in the past, and it may only be used by a few daredevils, but everyone has to admit it would be neat.. also it looks like he might could rotate each side seperatly, a spring to bring them back to parallel or centered with each other. that way he'd have roll axis control or turning control by twisting the thrust as he pushs one control and pulls the other.
