Well sort of it was the set screw it was missing Haven't had a chance to drive it yet cause of work and such but I'm pretty sure its the culprit because the wheels spun pretty freely when it was missing and now its back to the old amount of resistance

Hi
I my mt2 was making a noise when accelerating, like teeht were skipping, so i ttook the rear diff apart, and found loads of metal bur, so i bought a new diff gear ( the biggest one that was warn) and put that in, and ran it for the first time today, but its still making the noise ??!??!?!
Any ideas lads ?
Thanks Dave

If ring gear was stripped more then likely the pinion gear needed to be replaced as well. If you have the RTR you should up grade to the heavy-duty gear set and make sure you shim them. All so did you check your spider gears?
This is the heavy-duty gear set.

Hey 46u
thanks for your reply.
Well in the pack of bought from my lhs, it had the ring gear, and the pinion gear in it, but when i looked at the old pinion gear, it looked the same as the new one, where as the old ring gear, looked really rounded and totally diff. So i thought theres no point replacing the pinion gear.
Also, before i came and looked here, i noticed that it wasnt spaced very well, so i moved one of the spacers thats already there for the bearings i think, around, to move the ring gear across a bit. so its shimmed a bit, which i thought was plenty, as its better than when it comes standard, and stardard it didnt slip ?!?
However i shall follow your advice, and replace the pinion gear, incase theres a slight diff, and i will also find some more spacers so its a tight fit.
thanks again for you help

Think I got most of the problems with my radio in my MT fixed for now. Any one here running the Spektrim DX2 or DX3 radio? I just ordered the DX3, as I need the 3rd channel for my Savage. I have an FM set up but have had problems with it since new. Going to be nice to have a 2.4 gig system and do not have to worry about anyone being on my frequency along with many other very nice features. Check out this radio at the below link.

Longest running thread in the stadium truck forms I can find. My MT 1 ¾ originally a MT1 Racer but I have up graded it to just about the specifications of the MT2 SS other then the upper deck, radio box and engine. I am still running the OS .15 CV-RX as when I built my MT the OS .18 CV-RX was not out yet. Good to hear from you after all this time and check in more often.

Hi folks,
I just recently purchased an MT2 18ss and wanted to join this awesome thread. I've already gotten many great tips from it and want to thank everyone here. Especially 46u who seems to be a wealth of info. I'm still breaking in the engine right now but want to get a tuned pipe for it. Do any of you have any suggestions for a really good tuned pipe with the 18ss motor? I like the Tsais rear exhaust ( http://www.tsais.com/products/exhaus.../10/E1019.html ) because I like the cleaner look with the pipe in the back and the fact that it will keep the oil from the exhaust off of the truck, but I'm having a hard time finding any real reviews of that pipe. I would happily go with a THS or RD Logics pipe if that will give me the best performance. Has anyone seen a tuned pipe in black? They all seem to be polished.
Take care and I'll try to get some pics uploaded soon.
Pete

As far as the Tsais rear pipe I have only talked to one person that runs it and they liked it. My main concern with this pipe is what happens if you do a jump and land on the back of the truck? This pipe can be gotten here in the US for $50 before shipping.

The THS pipe I have talked to quite a few people running it and they all like it. I was running a pairs ribbed style pipe but did not like it at all so I bought this one because it was cheap. It works quite well for the money I am very happy.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXBMH0
I never understood why HPI runs composite tuned pipes; as for the best performance you need something that will hold heat. Matter of fact steel would be best as it holds heat better then aluminum but I guess then the weight factor comes in to play. The only steel pipes I know of are for big blocks.
Keep us posted and good luck. Looking forward to seeing pictures. I need to post some of my beat up MT 1 ¾.

Hey guys
I got my rear diff fixed
i replaced the pinion gear too, and spaced it out a bit more, now it seems fine!
however, i think i lost some bits to the front diff, from when i took that apart, the bits on each side ( sorry dont no name) where the drive shafts go into, are they surposed to have something in them ? because now at the front, the drive shafts dont seem long enough, so when you turn the shafts fall out at the wheel hubs!!
atm, ive got 2 tiny washers inside, which seems to be holding, as it pushed the shafts further into the hubs.
so what should it have ?
Also, the allen key screw, that goes into the bottom of the hub, has come out becuase it would not do up tight ? both sides are the same, but i have never touched them so how could the thread be stripped ???
are there allu hubs you can buy ? or any upgrade?
Question 2
I was fiddeling about with the servo that controlls the carburettor today as well, becuase i noticed, it was using more movement from the servo than it needed to openthe carb fully. so i thought if i can set it up better i can have more movement for the brake, thus giveing me a stronger brake.
After a while i found the throttle setting on the controller, which has seemed to even up the distance in either direction the servo travels, which is great, becuase its putting more force on the brake, however, i cant wuite get it set up so the carb opens fully, as i dont think on this setting, it has enough movement.
What can i do to improve this ? better servo? better controller ?
Thanks in advance
Dave

Dave do you have a manual and if so can you give me some part numbers on what you are talking about so I can try and help? If by chance you do not have a manual you can down load it off HPI web site. Or some pictures will help if you have a way to take and post them.
On the servo are you talking about setting the trim on the TX? What I do is set up my linkage and trim where my carburetor opens all the way then work on the brakes. You might have to adjust the linkage and you might have to change the position of the servo horn on the servo.
Not sure this is helping much but I am trying. Keep us posted and we will keep on trying to help. I am not real good with words.

46u - Thanks for the quick reply. I was also concerned about hitting the Tsais pipe while bashing but judging by this picture :
http://www.tsais.com/products/exhaus...19/NDMT204.jpg
it looks to me like the pipe may be protected by the size of the wheels or worst case the stinger would get hit. That is something to consider though. I should probably just go with the associated pipe that you suggested since after a while I'll be upgrading to the OS engine that you all run and would need a new header at that point anyway.
Another question that I have is, which steering servo do you use? I'm considering getting a Spektrum DX2 since I want to upgrade my radio and servos. The radio and servos I'm using now are from an old electric car that I had.
Thanks again for the help.

As far as the Sepktrum I have a DX3 on the way, as I need the 3rd channel for my Savage. All so the receivers for the DX3 are cheaper. The one I am getting comes with 2 receivers, two servos shipped for about $257.
For the money I am very pleased with the associated pipe. I am still considering the rear exhaust but right now I need the money for other things. I am setting my Savage and MT up for racing.
All ways glade to try and help.

Which is more durable, a mt2 or a ofna ultra comp 2 or mbx comp?
Which is more durable, a mt2 or a ofna ultra comp 2 or mbx comp?
Cannot help you as the only one that I have owned it the MT and if your read my above post you will see it started out as a MT1 Racer. Ofna makes some very good vehicles but I do not do RTR as you end up with a better vehicle when you start out with a kit. If I was going to get a new MT2 the only one I would consider is the MT2 .18SS and I would probably sell the motor on ebay to get an OS .18 CV-RX.
Go to the buggy thread to ask about the Ofna, as you will probably get better advice there.

Yes in my opinion there is such a thing as to much motor for a track and I have seen it. I think there are many others that will agree. What track do you race at? The one I race at right now is small and very technical.
But what ever works for you is all that counts

Hey guys I know this is an MT2 page but I figured somebody here will have owned or knows about the origonal MT. I was wondering if it is "safe" to put a bigger engine than the .15 FE in it, and if I can how big can I go before things start breaking. I figured I could put a .18 similar to the one in the MT2 in and be ok but I wanted to get some opinions.

If you check a few post up you will see mine started out as a MT 1 Racer. If you have the MT1 RTR the biggest thing you have to worry about is the differentials. You need to up date them to the heavy duty but I would wait till they messed up. Here are two links one with the heavy-duty gears and one on the engine I recommend.

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...7&I=LXGGP7&P=K
Any thing is better then the .15FE. I had one in my Rush so I know about this engine.
A lot of the parts from the MT 2 will fit the MT 1. I call mine a MT 1 ¾ as I have up graded it to all most the specifications of the MT2SS. I have even added some things that HPI said would not fit like the 100cc fuel tank.
One other thing when you get a better engine get a better exhaust as the MT1 had a very poor header!

Not a good idea and it would not be as good as an exhaust made for a small block. I think the performance with a Savage exhaust would be very poor. All so it would not fit well and the Savage tuned pipe is bigger where it goes on the header and is quite a bit longer. Besides my MT and others I have a Savage.
