Those are the spider diffs which I already have. I need a regular center diff. thanks for the response though.

Are the gears inside the same amount of teeth or gear ratio? I know I need to replace the spur gear but want to make sure the inside gears are the same.

i don't think the internal gears matter the teeth, just the fit really. may need shims if gears are flatter.

would you all consider the hyper pro truggy to be race worthy? in other words, can it compete with, say, an MBX5T or a losi eight?

How bad is it if I put grease on the dog-bone ends?? Instructions for my Savage X SS said to do it, and I think somebody trustworthy-sounding in a forum said to, so I did...

I don't put grease on mine because I figure it will only attract dirt and sand (mostly what I run in) that will cling to and wear out the dogbones and axle stubs. I'll be interested in what others do and have to say about it.

Welcome to the Hyper ST Pro "spider diff" club. I rounded off two of my screws the first time. My buddy rounded off all six. They really lock the screws down. You will have to dremel the screws out. Cut a slit as if it were a flat head screw and turn it out. You will cut a little into the metal diff, but it will be fine. It really sucks!!

what u can do is get a small flat grindeing wheel that goes with a dremel and grind a line thru the top of the head for a flat head screw driver..carefull not to grind the crown gear to much.

you can drill the screw , then use a screw retractor...be carefull

did you use locktight in the screws??if so the before you try turning the screws heat the screw up with a soldering iron to heat the lock tight up..just put the iron ontop of the screw head..

failing all that , send it to me

ive never used greese or lube on my diff cups...ive had 4 hyper 8 pro bugs..1 hyper 8.5 bug and 2 hyper st pro truugys and have never worn the cups or bone heads at all...thats useing a sts.30 aswell..

like whats been stated. it just makes the dirt and dust stick in there and thus will aid in the wearing process..think about it as you cvd's rubbing constantly on fine sandpaper..

Should I even bother changing the diff out? Do you guys all still run your spider diffs? I was only considering changing because I heard it is not that good to use the U.S because of the clay tracks and how we drive and you will get a push that is hard to get rid of which I do feel when I drive it.

Thanks for the help I will try cutting a slot in the head.
I didnt use loctite, it happened when I was tightening the screws after I had changed the diff oil. I couldnt belive it, brand new truggy.
The metal used on the screws seems really soft.

yeah i had 3 strip on the way in, had to back them out with pliers. its like once in a while they aren't as deep as the others so the hex slips and kills it. i have the engine to put on, glue the tires and a couple more colors on the body and she'll be ready for a LONG day at the track tomorrow, well worth the wait. i might get the hyper 7 to 8.5 conversion done too if i go quick enough.

Well I have done some research looking to find the right truggy I have only owned one it was a MB5T prospec with a Werks .28 B7 but before I ever got a chance to ride it somebody stole it and 2 other buggys and my new CRT .5 along with all my gear.

Anyways since I bought a MBX5R buggy and Losi 8 I'm sick of my 8 so its up for sale on ebay (if anybody wants a super trick with every upgrade losi with a RB motor here is the auction number 260197096709) I'm selling it to get a truggy I've only driven monster trucks and one time I drove a RTR losi 8 truggy around the track once felt ok I guess. I have looked at getting another MBX5T but they are pricey I did a lot of research and the three that came to the top were the kyosho ST-RR the CRT-X1 and of course the Hyper ST what I like about the ST is beefy all those problem ereas that break and bend and wear out have been beefed up way beyond what I have ever seen. 2nd it is the set up I have seen I like the big bore shocks with locking nuts instead of those micro screws Losi uses to hold there pistons on. 3rd I like the look of all the chassis braces especialy a center one and the carbon fiber stuff is cool too. It also is the best looking truggy I have ever seen love the rear role bar look. I don't like the open battery box but that looks easy to fix with a different radio and battery box from Ofna.

Anyways it seems like the best deal I can get one for just over $416.00 shipped on ebay and for a kit thats cheap and I'm thinking of either a Ninja .28 or a werks B7 .28 as a power plant using a JP-3 pipe and a JR9001T steering and a JR 9001S for throttle plus I use a DX3 radio

Any bad things that need to be addressed I see the brakes are steel any kits for fiber brake disc any other woes anybody has had that I should be aware of. I drive on the throttle and aggressive will the ST respond ok to my style???

Any imput would be great.

Thanks

if you go Ninja, get a 053 pipe, Ninja loves those 053's.

I have a Ninja .21 in my MBX5R and I run a JP-1 and it rips or I run a JP-3 for open tracks. I have never used a 053 might try that. thanks

How else do you like the ST

If you go back through this thread, revopqrs has a vid clip of him driving a HST Pro with modded Nova 28.. He has what I believe would be rightly called an aggressive driving style..

The HST Pro is a bit heavier than some of the others, but I like you - coming from MT's - was attracted to the beefiness of it.. So cuz of the weight if you're gonna go Ninja I would imagine the 28 would be the way to go...

I haven't had the chance to run mine yet though, so sorry I can't really tell you anything from my experience yet.. I bought mine though partially on the basis on all the positive stuff I read about it here and elsewhere.. - especially the part about it being really tough..

got her done late last night, took about 6 hours total with paint, tires, some small mods and engine. i took it to the track today and it drives so smooth, just point and trigger. the stock tires are really good, i have the proline mt molded foam inserts in there, nice fit too. i ran the first tank and did the usual, check temps, adjusted trim and tuned engine. then disaster, my "tank" of a truggy would not turn to the right. i picked it up and the screw on the left knuckle fell out, no big, longer screw with nut and problem solved. started it up and after 1/2 a lap it would not turn left, right knuckle screw this time. then in the next 1/2 tank botht the screws fell out of the steering turnbuckle. none were locktited cause these are on-off type screws. they all have nuts on them now and stay tight, easy fix. i ran 4 more tanks and the truck was solid, few flips, bad landings, many pipes. the only change i need to make for tomorrow is thicker fluid in the shocks, i used 45 rear and 50 front after drilling 2 screws on the pistons, i'll go to 80-70 for tomorrow. i used a spare hyper 7 diff in the center (identical to the front and rear) with a 46 tooth spur and 13 tooth clutch. i'll have a 12t tomorrow too. another thing i like is the inside is so clean, track was still damp from rain on monday. here's some pics, i stuck with the white primary color as the st just loks really good in white.

I see you used the spare hyper 7 diff. I know you said it would fit and have been watching one on ebay but now since you have it in there and it does fit for sure I will click BUY IT NOW!!! Hope I hear from you that it does not push coming out of the turns on power at all!! That is the only problem I have and I know its because of that spider diff!

Got a pipe question.. Somebody just told me te Hyper ST Pro pipe is a 2059, that should actually work great with a VSPEC, and even moreso with the OS28, cuz it's a 28 pipe.. Now, I want to get the OS 28 for my ST Pro, and everywhere everybody says the 2060 is just THE pipe for the OS 28...

So what's the deal with the HST Pro pipe?? Is it a keeper then??
