Hey Richard..I want to cast a vote for Dion/Luke... But I can't find the right photo.. Can you post one for me?? I want to vote for one that matches my Corsair FF59... THe Color Scheme has A White Band on the Tail Group and 2 Yellow Stripes.. same on the right wing and underside of the left wing for I.D..... Know what I am describing??? USS Cape Gloucester?? 1945-ish...
Check this out..But for a HellCat..

Dion your modeling skills are top notch!! Your wood work looks so good I would find it hard to cover it

Ron

Thanks Ron, that's quite a compliment coming from such a great modeler such as yourself! Love that metal work too!

I like your color scheme, but in overall glossy sea blue.
All one color seems kind of boring, you can do that easily with Monokote. I got an airbrush and I want to use it! Thanks for the vote though.

Terry I think that's an excellent choice, I love the red around the insignia! Kind of what I was looking for, lots of airbrush work!

That is an interesting paint scheme! I'd love to see the Hellcat version, all glossy blue too! I wanted to use my airbrush but that one is tempting!

No problem! I'm using mainly the Don Lien plans from the 80's for my reference. I built the tail wheel from the notes on those plans, and they are just notes. His tail wheel is just a slightly modified Robart unit. As shown though the tail wheel will not work, so I made the changes to enhance it's scale looks, make it work and use the materials I wanted to use to make it lighter. I'm making a set of drawings of my own with all the changes and accurate templates and material descriptions. I used his control surfaces as a reference and also the hinging, although for his hinges he used aluminum and brass I was able to modernize those too! I'll be able to provide all of this information for those that might be interested in incorporating one or all of the mods I've incorporated into this project. The flaps are entirely made up by me, but they use standard RC procedures.

Now back to sanding! I can almost smell the paint!

Your welcome LDM! I was busy today making things and updating my web site, man I hate HTML!!! You cats can get what you need for now, if I start to get thin on material I might have to close the Hellcat parts shop for a while. So first come first served. Please US buyers only, I will not ship outside the continental US.

Good question on the flaps, I'll see how it looks when I get the wing joined.

No problem with the single servo, just work them loose and clear by themselves, before you hook them up. They are quite small and don't present much load to the servo.

Maybe I misunderstood the question, I have no doubt the servo can handle it I was concerned about the geometry if the servo is not on the centerline. My Royal P-51 has huge flaps and I always used a standard servo on those, never had a problem, on flaps who cares anyway if a servo stops working? I had a servo fail on my 2 servo flap set-up TF P-51, it got weird until I pulled the flap back up!

Hi Dion,
The flaps just see the wire yolk, they aren't aware that the servo is off center. And the wire is sturdy enough that it does not deflect. Just be sure to clear the slots in the wing and work the flap horns till all seems clear.

Hi Dion.
I see the link for the Hellcat parts. Are the parts ready for shipping yet? If so I'm going to place my order.
Thanks!

Some nice work on that Cat Bro! What's the wingspan on it? I have a drop tank on mine, so will several other people!

Hi Dom, I was not sure about the response so I do have to make more parts this morning, but all orders that I receive before Noon will go out today.

I sent my retracts back to CJ yesterday so when they get back I'll finish the wing. I finished the pictures for the drop tank installation so I'll post those later today if I have time. I was at the Gretchen Wilson concert last night with VanZant, wow she's cool! lol[8D]

Diony, the ws is a smallish 60"ws. It is teh WING Hellcat. The cmps could b e great lookinghellcats with the addition of the parts you are selling. You should also add a more scale canopy to your parts bin. I made the drop tank from blue foam. Glassed and painted. The plane will either fly on a rcv 90 or os 90. paint is model masters airbrushed on

Dion,

I just received a knockoff F6F and have been following this thread. I am interested to know if it is possible to get a set of gear doors, drop tank and radial engine vaccum formed parts from you. If so what are the prices?

Thank You
Craig

Dion I placed my order and paid pay pay , I expect you to stop everything , make mine special , add rivits , a pilot, new canopy , set of Hellact plans with suger on top !!!!.

Guys-FYI the knockoff Hellcat is still selling on E-Bay under airplanehobby-you have to search under gas rc and keep looking. If you patient you can get one for about $68 plus $55 in shipping and $3 insurance . Now if your stupid enought to complane about the shipping dont bid , its a way for the guy to make some money. So he builds in an extra $25 for himself , you still get a nice plane for about $125, not bad in my book.

Dion keep up the great work , I am printing your buiuld for my own manual .

Sorry did not mean to say "stupid" on shipping meant angry , one more note just for refferance "Rob Pikes finishing touches" has some cool interiors for 82" planes , I think one is a hellcat & or wildcat , I know there way to big but I printed some of the pics for my 73" P40 and they make great refferances for die cuuting after you shrink them

I like how your Hellcat is coming along, want to see those finished pics with the tape off. I was thinking of using Model Masters, not sure yet but yours looks great. Great job on the drop tank also, nice touch! I am very interested to see what these guys do with the extras I sent them, hope to see pictures.

Man, you guys buried me this weekend! Thanks for the support, I really hope you all enjoy the parts. I'm sending them out this morning priority. Got ya Dom, your parts are on the way!

Graig, go to my website, click on the products tab and select what you need.

LOL! Yea LDM! I wouldn't do it any other way, you know that! A manual, good idea, stay tuned for the finishing prtion of the build, going to save some real weight there!

Everyone that bought my stuff can have all the drawings for free that I make for this plane, like the hinges and tail wheel plans I'm drawing. Just shoot me an email with a request for the drawings that you need.

I was going to show more on the drop tank, but I've had some questions about the aileron hinges so I'll post more detailed pictures of those for the guys that may want to do them, very easy and I recommend them. VERY slick![8D]

Using the drawings mark the hinge pivot point on the aileron itself. (At this point the aileron is not shaped and it is tack glued to the wing with 3 small spots of medium CA to hold it in place.) Then cut out 3 pieces of light ply with a pivot hole drilled at the proper height. Using a piece of wire as a guide align the ply pieces on the hinge line and tack glue them with medium CA. Mark the location of smaller aileron hinge pieces and using a Dremel with a small router bit cut those slots out. Pull the wire out and install on the smaller hinge pieces holding them in alignment with the wire. Glue them in with Medium CA making sure to get plenty of glue in the glue holes you drilled. I fill any voids with Micro-Balloons and thin CA.

Next Pull the wire out and assemble the hinges. Using the bigger wing mounted side of the hinge as a guide to Dremel out the holes on the wing side. Make sure that you installed blocks in the wing for these things to mount to! I marked the hinges on the side so I knew how far they had to be buried in the wing and aileron. Just scribe the parts with a hobby knife, works good. Glue those in the same way as the other hinge parts. Take the bolts out and pop the aileron off and then shape it as shown on the drawings.

Dion
