One classic that works rather well without a lot of modification is a Summit III. The reason is that it already has a suitable hatch in the form of a removable canopy. You can see it if you look...

I copied Doug's power set in a Calypso and it worked perfectly. A friend has a Calypso with a Hanno special in it, piped naturally. On the ground we turn the same RPMS with the same prop. ( Either...

Good luck with the sportsman pattern meet and in scale at the Nats! Your Sun Fli will do well in sportsman.

I flew mine in intermediate at several competitions ( turnaround) and despite it being...

Hi Vertical G,

That was me that mailed you the plans and I am very pleased to see your finished version. It looks great!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine. I think mine is about 10...

RE: Calypso cowling

Thanks for responding speedracerntrixie,

I appreciate the offer. I don't know that I will go to the expense of having a mold made. I can carve a foam one and lay up glass over it and dissolve...

RE: Calypso cowling

Did anyone ever find a source for this cowl? I found a kit with the cowl basically shrunk, cracked, and unuseable. I'd love to find a source for the cowl instead of using my limited fiberglass...

RE: UFO #2

I've covered some in silkspan before priming to eliminate grain. It makes a nice finish , though not as durable as 3/4 oz cloth. Very light though.

RE: Como/Super Tigre S61 Bearing Info

I had a S-61 Supre Tigre and bought bearing on Boca's recommendations and they fit fine. It was the later sort of square headed version but still Italian made. In fact I have 2 and I think at one...

RE: UFO Stab Removal - Building Experts please HELP!

One thing that might work is just heating up the epoxy and scraping or gouging it out. You'd have to be careful about getting the fuselage itself too hot and consequently warp it. It isn't too...

RE: JL Products Roto Flow Gas Tank

Actually, hesitation and sputter should not be a part of how a nitro engine runs. If the carb and engine are any good, adjusting both high and low end needle valves should eliminate it. Set the...

RE: Dirty Birdy 60 Build

I realized should have been clearer as I reread the last post. I have the same ply piece on the sides of the ribs as the kit shows, what I meant for reinforcement would be applied on the other side...

RE: Dirty Birdy 60 Build

I think the 55 AX is a good choice. I'm happy with the weight of mine with a heavier OS 61 FSR in front, but had to use about 4 ounces of tail weight to get it to balance. With fixed gear ( which...

RE: Dirty Birdy 60 Build

By the way, there is a very well done, thoughtful rewrite of the instructions for the Bluejay DB. One of the things that Dbacque noticed and discusses is that the plans show the stab 1/8 inch bigger...

RE: Dirty Birdy 60 Build

Here's a couple Dirty Birdy pics. The one on the bench is mine, built from a Bluejay kit. It has an OS 61 FSR ABC and Super tigre pipe with Mac's header. It also has Rhom retracts. All up weight...

RE: TF Lustere-Kote Match

I can give one kind of strange emergency experience with compatibility and LK paint. They no longer market a match to monokote dark red. I needed that and found that Rustoleum had a color that...

RE: Building a Tiporare .40

I kind of do a combination of what is being discussed . I razor plane and sand with a long a block as possible as Jim does but I final sand with fine 400 and 600 afterward by the "shoe shine"...

RE: Loaded Dice III engine

Hi Renegade,

I just hold it up, start it, and throw it at the ground and miss! The one shown has placed well in several local pattern meets, so it was competitive. It wouldn't be now though,...

RE: Loaded Dice III engine

I have built Westrop's Acro, predecessor to the Loaded Dice and very similar to it, and two Gitanos. All were built from plans. All three are great flying planes. They can be built lightly and fly...

RE: Dirty Birdy Instructions Update

Jeff is spot on in everything he mentions. The engine mounting and cowl carving would be much easier with a small case like an OS 55. That would also save tail weight ( 4 ounces or so in my case). ...

RE: Help with the ID!

Measure out half way on each wing. At that point you can determine the average chord by just measuring it. Establish your desired balance point ( perhaps on a piece of tape on each wing). You can...

Hi Pattern Student,

I measured my pipe's OD and it comes out as 1.57 inches. Ron is right, ST pipes didn't have a pressure tap as manufactured, but since that picture I've added one to mine...

I believe the ones with screws in them are Super Tigre pipes. I have one on my recently completed and maidened Dirty Birdy. I've loaded a picture that shows the pipe. Performance wise, I got...
