50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!

Hey Guy's!
Excuse me for interupting the flow of things, but I want to give Tom some Cudo's where Cudo's are do. Some of you probably realize that I have popped in and out of here a few times. I have had my Sukhoi sitting here in the box for a while now. When I bought my Sukhoi, it was full speed ahead until my wife unexpectedly needed surgery for one of those woman things, and lost her job in the process. Since recovery, she has worked some odd jobs. We worked hard to get caught back up. I finally felt safe pulling the Sukhoi out of the box, only to find that my cowl had a rather unique problem. Tom did not know my sob story, but when he saw the pictures of the oddity in the cowl, he didn't look at the time that had lapsed since getting my plane, he shipped a replacement cowl right out. That is class, and greatly appreciated!!![sm=thumbs_up.gif] I am finishing a course for my job at the moment. When that is done, I hope to get real serious about getting this bird in the air. Thanks again Tom!!!

Hey guys, I f-i-n-a-l-l-y got her in the air this past weekend. What a blast !!!! Really nice flier and the 3MM was purrin like a kitten. I noticed the same thing with the aileron trim that a few others are seeing left side down, right side up but all else was perfect right from take off. Whats up with that? All in all nice plane, real gentle in the air, seems very forgiving. Special THANKS to SAL98 for showing me what this plane is capable of ...AWESOME! MD

OK guys mine is going out for its maiden as soon as I get it balanced. I have misplaced some of my directions and was wondering if you balance this plane inverted or upright? Thanks

"Put the two wings on the wing tube and pull a string from tip to tip along the centerline of the wing tube
and mark the wing tips along this string line. Balance the plane by picking it up at the tips with your
finger (and a helper’s as well). If the nose drops it’s nose heavy, if the tail drops it’s tail heavy. At this
point it should be just slightly nose heavy for the first flight."
Good luck with the maiden.

Well chuck it was one of those days that nothing went right. I made some last minute adjustments in my radio and somehow I had my ailerons revesed and i did not catch it before take off. When the plane went up there was a 5-10 mph crosswind . The plane climbed to about 15 feet started to roll I went to correct and only made things worse. This is the first time I have ever had a problem on a maiden but it is truly all my fault. I am more upset at myself more than loosing the plane. I will get another from Tom and this next one will be great! I did weigh it before it got rekitted and with the DL50 it came out at 16.5 pounds. It would have been a great performer!

Got a few more pictures this holiday weekend.... man the more I fly this plane the more I like it. have it balanced fairly to my liking for now . Low speed flight is foamy like and very predictable, this thing floats big time . Almost feels like I would have to come to a complete stop for it to stall. Had a 5 Mph headwind and came in so slow I did a harrier landing with a bout a 15 ft rollout ...fun !
I am really happy that I decided to personalize the graphics a little looks really nice and visible in the air for sure. Thanks for the Great Plane Tom !

Don, I think thats cool you dont let that bother you and you enjoy the sport from your chair. I would like to think I would do the same.
One thing I did is get a dog leash and loop it around the tail and put a stake in the ground. its my safety wire if someone slips. then just disconnect the the quick clip and it will slide right off. In fact our club recommends a tie down for GS planes for all starts/runups.

Hey Buggar!!!! Sorry to hear that??? such a simple thing to do, don't feel to bad cos there people who have done it and people that are going to do it. Just think, you can make all those improvements you were going to make anyway??
aaxiss, Pls put the wheel pants on????, that plane looks fantastic mate!!.
Of interest, I have (had) Extreme link 2.4ghz module in my 9x JR, had problems with my carby and was working on the engine, put all back together, go to set the choke up and the 10 chanel reciever failed on the work bench??????? much to be thankfull for, after checking around abit this system seems to have some flaws, pls be careful????
I now have on the way the JR module to suit, these were not out when I got the extreme link.
Does any one else have the extreme link system and if so is it working for you???. Pretty hard to get information where I live.

You can probably find a photo of your liking somewhere in here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_60...tm.htm#6038013
Sounds very interesting...30# of thrust? Why not go with a 35%?

those turbo props were based on the MW 54 mk 3 can, the new one is based on the mw44 gold can. smaller all around.
the new MK4 turboprop is pushing almost 60 lb of thrust with the right prop

I really will put the wheel pants on but going to leave them off for a while whilst still in the breaking in process and it makes it a lot easier for me to move the plane with them off . Being in a wheelchair I have to lift the tail much higher to push it around and found that with the pants on I end up trashing them tilting it too far forward.

If you guys are commenting on the first picture I can see how that could look like I am flying near to a valley or from a raised field, rest assured that I enjoy no added benefit flying from this location than you do from yours, I have planted a few planes into good Ole mother earth in this location. ROFL
In all seriousness the picture is quite deceiving as the ground does slope away to a ravine but...... that picture was taken while I was lining up for approach to land maybe 150 yards out and the ravine you see behind me is about half a mile away
The camera used to take that picture is a Leica SLR @ 300 mm lens. the picture quality was alot higher before I resized it for posting on the forums. Original picture size was 4000 ish by 3000 ish and over 9mb in size raw format.

two more. It has the 3MM 53 with muffler and hitec 5645's all the way around with a 5955 on the rudder. Got it with the hardware kit and decal set from tom, i got a local decal shop to make the wings and the rest of the graphics came from badbradgraphics. Its been slow going but I cant wait to get done.

Well we had our first Funfly yesterday at the OCMA Blackstarr field here in CA. seemed to be a big success. Lots people asking about my plane and who the MFG is - sorry Tom I took all the WH stickers off - but I pointed them to the WH site. I guess they figure that if a guy in a wheelchair can do it that anyone can and I would agree except they gotta be able to read and follow directions.... Tom sure does make it easy to fly a nice performing plane though
I was able to get 3 more tanks of gas through my plane I dont think I like the TBM 22 x 8 Prop I have on the plane now, feels like it's really loading it up. gonna switch back to the NX, the TBM prop was free so I figured I would try it and I had like 3 people yesterday tell me the TBM props were junk and I concur. I'll put a nail in the wall over my workbench, hang it there and hope it brings me good luck LOL
