I went to the extreme flight rc website and found this:http://www.extremeflightrc.com/html/48extra.html
Since I have the Torque 2814/820 and the 45 amp ESC laying around, and father's day is coming around pretty soon and my kids are too little to buy me something, IHADTOPREORDERIT!!!!! My wife is going to kill me (got too many planes in the garage (sorry: hangar)), but I think this plane is worth it. Airfoiled elevator on a plane of this size, that's awesome.

<span style="font-family: Comic Sans MS;"><span style="font-size: larger;">The blue one looks hot and if it flies as well as the smaller 45" one then she is a real winner for sure.

... and the blue one I'll get!
I had the 45" Extra and I flew the heck out of it. I learned basic 3D with it last year. I must have flown it over a hundred times for sure. I also have the 47" Yak, did only 3 flights with it, but it's awesome, too. I have it at my parents house in my home country for my rare visits there. Since the new 48" is a new generation of planes (fiber glass re-enforced, no hinge gaps, airfoiled elevator and rudder), I'd expect it to be even more awesome to fly.

That new 48" extra 300 looks awsome.
Ihave the Extreme Flight 58" Extra 300 (blue &yellow) and it's the best plane in my hanger by far.
I'm doing the IMAC 2009 basic with it and it's teriffic!
Enjoy!!

Ordered mine today. The blue one with the combo motor & esc.
I've been out of flying for a few years, so I'm really hoping this will get me back into it.If I can handle it tight in, I may even fly it at work. Problem is it will be over concrete, so not forgiving of any oopsies.
I'll be using Hitec HS-65MG, APC 12x6, Zippy FlightMax 2650 20C 4S packs, Spektrum AR6100 Rx and DX7 Tx.

So ours are going to be identical, except the battery. I have TP 2100mAh 4 cell and EON 2450mAh (or something like that) 4 cell batteries. Depending on the wind situation I'll use either one of them (I got 2 each). However, whenever I buy new batteries, it's going to be Zippies. Igot a few 3500mAh 4 cell and 5000mAh 5 cell (for different applications, of course) Zippies and I don't see anything wrong with them.

Mine's out for delivery. This is going to be my first plane with side force generators. I'll post building progress on this thread.

What connectors will fit the supplied connectors on the FlightMax 2650's?</p>
Thanks,

My understanding is that they come with Deans Ultra, but I could be wrong. Some of my stuff is on backorder, so it's going to be a while before I see them.

Crashmeister,
Mine came with the connectors aspictured on the webpage, not Deans Ultras. I might add, the power wire is huge. I couldn't solder it to the Ultra without melting it. I have everything set up with the Ultra's. Had to jury rig it. Some serious soldering went on.

Google MPI 2818 or see page 108 of the June Model Aviation mag. I intend to use these. I hate soldering Deans or MPX.
My HS-65MG's arrived today. Still no sign of the plane.
Craig.

Done! But not maidened, yet. I started yesterday around 1pm and was finished around 7pm with interruptions. However, when I say done then I mean: adjusted the servo throws, setup dual rates, made sure the CG is okay (and even put the stickers on :-) ). Above you can see photos of the box and the finished product. I was gonna work on it over a few days and I was going to put up pictures of the progress, but since I decided to work on the plane instead of going flying, I finished it in one go.
All the electronics are as per Extreme Flight recommendations: Hitec 65MG, Airboss 45 amp ESC, Torque motor (the one with the 820 or so KV) and Thunderpower 2100mAh 4 cell battery (I got 2 of them and I got 2 EON Flightpower 2450mAh or so, those are going to be for windy days). I'll buy Zippies if I need more batteries.
It came together really well. This is my first electric where the motor was simple bolt on. The firewall has blindnuts installed. No drilling, no nothing necessary. Just put in the screws and you're done. The control linkage is also simple, except I had to scuff the carbon fiber rods a lot to be able to fit them in the ball linkages.
I'll put in another post after the maiden.

I realized that I didn't use long control horn for the elevator that came with the plane. Gotta put that in tomorrow night.

I finished mine. Since I usually only fly gas and only have the Little Bangee electric, some questions. I didn't go for the combo setup and in stead I got myself 3 2650mah Zippy batteries, Turnigy 40A controller and Turnigy SK 35-42 1000kV motor.
With the battery all the way up front, I got the CG 1/8" behind the center of the wing tube. Is this gonna work out fine or will it be tail heavy? I like my planes to be close to being tail heavy. With the big battery the plane weighs in at 47-1/2oz.
Also, I ran a few batteries with a Xoar 12x7E prop. Everything seems to work fine but the motor gets really hot and smells after 30 secs+ full throttle. Is this normal? I guess the motor is about 60 degrees Celsius after the full throttle run. The battery is warm and the controller slightly hot. I tried low, medium and high timing mode and I get the impression I get much longer run times in high timing mode. Can someone please confirm?
And I haven't used any of the included EZ connectors. These create a big load on the arms. See image 3 for how far the arms are out of line.

Nice to see you have it flying - so what's your opinion ?
Hey, does anyone have the current Tower Hobbies discount codes ? I need about $90 worth of stuff for my plane and all I can see is the $25 off $199 offer. I can pad it a bit (to $100) but not all the way to $200.
Thanks,
Craig.

Okay. My motor has 820kv, which means it spins slower than your 1000kv motor. I'm using a 12x6 prop, you're using a 12x7 prop. That means you're definitely over propped! My motor and ESC have ambient temperature after a flight like the one in the video above, and the performance is very satisfying. I'd definitely try a 12x6 if I were you.
As far as CG: My CG is also aft. I have to move the battery all the way in the front to get the CG right (neutral). To do 3D stuff, I move the battery an inch from the front for slightly aft CG.

I did some upright harriers, but those were wobbly (wind) and it always takes me a few flights with a new plane to get harriers done nicely.
Landing was very easy. I did 2 flights and had no issues. Set it up with some power and then cut the throttle and flared it in. That's it.
This plane floats, it looks unreal. I did some very slow fly-by, short of harriering and it was REALLY slow.
One more thing: The Torque motor (the bigger one, with the 820kv) and the 45 amp Airboss ESC with the 12x6E APC prop as recommended for this plane, works really well. Ballistic performance. During those 2 flights I never even hit full throttle. It goes vertically up with no end. It just keeps accelerating.
In other words, I'm quite happy with my purchase! :-)

I have about 80% of the build done. Next step is the cowl. I'm still waiting for my batteries, so no hurry. I just wish I could CA hinges without getting CA all over myself and the plane
