Hey guys,
I put together a brief video clip of my DV...
We were at the end of the tape ond only got a few things, but I think it shows some of the DV's strengths.
The first clip shows the takeoff and power of the DA-50
The 2nd shows an elevator... sortof...
I turn the plane nose down power off... pick up some speed and then hit full 45 degree elevator. The plane just flips horizontal and will slowly decend to the ground without wingrock
The 3rd clip shows a rock solid harrier with no wingrock (and no spoilerons either) then the DA-50 pulls it out pretty strong...
The last clip shows a fairly high speed wall... then locks into a hover once I get the tail down. It will torque pretty quick off the bat without aileron...
I really am enjoying this plane a lot.
Maybe next time i can get some better footage/flying to share...

It really is... at 17 lbs. it hauls it aorund nicely... some of it is due to the DV's clean design and great lift...
I could want for a tad bit more power coming out of a hover, but the engine only has a little over a gallon thru it... and a 22x8 prop...
Once I get 3 gallones or so I'll switch to synthetic oil and a 22x10 prop... I already can notice a little more power each flight...
I think the DA-50 is the perfect engine for the DV...
I gues I should also say what a joy it has been to run.... absolutely no issues, didn't have to touch the needles (tried but went back).
When cold 3 flips choked - 5 flips not... when warm.. 3 flips not chokes and I'm ready to go...

Mike, you are going to LOVE the DV... it's just a very forgiving plane that is capable and simply stunning to look at.
I have two buddies with the WH Edge/Extra and they both are dissappointed they didn't build this plane... (Acutally one has one now and is looking to pull his stuff out of the Extra and put it in the DV...)
What I like best I suppose is that it doesn't snap on stall it just drops the nose, and with elevator will slowly come down flat.... you can try things and if it doesn't work out you simply give it some juice and some elevator and it'll right itself and allow you to move on.
The DA-50, in the few times I've gotten lower and getting away from me, will easily stop it and pull it out... an since there is no snapping tendencies it's not a nailbiter.
If you haven't seen one in person yet, you'll be amazied at how big it is... I first thought... THIS is a 50cc plane? Looks more like a 75... (When you think about people putting 50's on a GP Pitts/Christian Eagle)
I did a "real" measurement of wing area (which is 1607.56 sq. in.) and at my weight (17 lbs) that's a wingloading of 24.36 per sq. foot.
And with this size plane that is phenominal...

Your Killin me.
I am waiting for DA to send back the correct mounts and Central hobbies order for my Carbon elevator pushrods and one or two other things.
How is everyone mounting their outer wing struts? Read where you could tap the metal studs with 6-32 and use 6-32 bolts. I like that.
J-David, did you change or check any of the wing or stab incidents? I havent changed anything yet and will check everything before I do change anything.

I didn't change a thing. I took Chip's advice and kept the cabane bolts loose and dry fit the struts. The bottom wing is "set" by design and the top is set based on the struts and cabanes.
By keeping everything loose til I drilled the strut holes it allowed the top wing to settle where it should be. I have yet to check where that left the incidences, but I guess I didn't have to...
The only snapping I found it to do is in a tight outside loop... it will trun out of it but not scarily.
Right now I just want to get the engine broke all the way in and settle in on the final prop... maybe a Mejzlic 22x10 or 24x8...
Then I intend on really going to pains to tweak this one to it's best....
If they never made another plane, I'd be perfectly happy with the DV and Yak...

BTW... I know others have set all the incidences to zero... Mark Trent for one... and he seems to know his stuff...
I figured I could alway adjust it later if I wanted to see what it might do differently...

Set it all to zero, it will fly truer. It will eliminate the elevator trim you're now using and this will cause the air going over the surface to be smoother for lack of a better description. I've tried it many ways and always came back to 0 degrees. As far as the prop goes 22x8 menz will be the best prop you will find. over proping it will make it sluggish. This plane is awesome

finally got mine in the air this week, doing great for the first flights, only thing i am having a problem with is getting it to do a waterfall.
it will come over and go around about 3/4 of a rotation and then fall off. Any sugestions?

The DV just doesn't want to quit flying...
You might want to try elevator-flap mix with flaperons enabled...
Ailerons moving same direction as elevator. This may tighten up the spin on its axis and prevet the wings from grabbing when it's inverted in the maneuver...

Good info on the wing incidence...I used to set up my short coupled bipes (Christen Eagle, Pitts) with -1 to -2 degrees of incidence on the top wing. This keeps the plane flying at very slow speeds at high angles of attack as the bottom wing may approach a stall but the upper wing keeps flying due to the reduced angle of attack as compared with the lower wing. It makes the plane less prone to do the stall, snap, spin if you get it too slow with the nose a little high on, for example, an approach.
I watched the video of Chip's DV and it appears to be extremely stable at a very high AOA. The harriers were beautiful!!!! I'll follow the advice all of you guys with experience and set mine up at the recommended zero degrees of incidence. I can't wait to get mine in the air...I just need to scrape together the $$$$ for all of the servos and then I'll be good to go!
I've read where some of you guys need the short (1 1/4") stand offs for the DA 50. I have an extra NIB set with the screws I'll let go at a reasonable price if it will help someone out. Let me know here...NOT with an E-mail or a PM.
Kevin
PS---Is anyone running a KS cannister pipe on their DV yet?????

From: NEW LONDON, OH,
Well guys you did it. You made me order myself a DV today for my birthday. Have no idea when it will ship or if any are in stock. Guess I'll just have to be patient. One question though. I've read this thread and still not sure about the length of the standoffs for the DA 50. What length standoffs do I need? Do I specify the length when I order from DA? This is my first gas engine. Thanks for all your help.

See if DA will sell you the engine at a reduced price without the stand offs---I'll sell ya the extras that I have right!!!!!
They sell for $7 each ---I'll sell ya mine for $15 shipped if it will help someone out. Screws are included.
I've had to put the construction of my DV on hold for a while to pay for my family's vacation.[
] We are heading for the "Redneck Riviera"-----Destin FL!!!
After seeing the videos of the DA 50 powered DV I can hardly wait to fly mine.....Ditto concerning the size of this plane---You get a LOT for your $$$$.....A real bargain if you consider what it would cost to build it yourself. ARF's have come a looooooong way!!!!!

Lookie what came today!! This is my resident test pilot and all around good friend, Jet (aka Frankenthumb... I'm holding Chloe). He loaned me his truck so I could go pick up the crate from Forward Air. I must say, Planes Plus (Don and Karla) did one heck of a job packaging this thing!
