Guys, unless you have alot of extra money to spend on digital servos, ... you don't need them on this particular plane. I have Hitec 605's all the way around and they are more then enough to handle the control surfaces. IMHO

I'll go a step further...
you don't need 605's either....
I went with Futaba 3004's all around except for the rudder... I wen twith the 605 there...
with 2 elevator servos, a couple 405BB's or 3004's fit the bill fine....
If this plane was a speed demon with lots of slams and bams... I'd say go a little more...
But I snap the crap out of mine, hover, harrier, and anything else that accidentially happens... never felt mushy at all....

Absolutley krayzc...
I just wanted to share with potential buyers out there that might be on a budget that the standards perform very well on mine...
Just like some guys are putting YS 120 and bigger in it... but it will fly great with a .91 2 stroke...

The secret to doing this plane with plain servos is to set the max throw near the end if the servo travel in one direction. This has the most leverage at the servo position.

A buddy of mine just got one. He put it up for the first time last weekend due to some engine trouble. He was having trouble tunning his Saito FA-100, but we got the bugs worked out. Still running a little rich because its not fully broken in yet. Ill tell you this. Its a great flying plane. He has it set up by the book for the throws. Seems to fly as if it were on rails. It is a big plane and I know a 60 wouldent fly it very well. Anyway, it is a beautiful plane.

There are a ton of cline installs on UCD's that I know of. I'm one of them. There are several threads out there on RCU that talk about it also. My tank is about half way between stock position and CG. The cline works great on my UCD with Saito 100.

Thanks...

HEY BEERMAN!!!!
Just kidding. COOMARLIN posted some great Cline pictures under a thread called: CLINE QUESTIONS He shows how he mounted his Cline. I just wrapped mine in a piece of bicycle innertube (being careful not to cover the hole in the bottom) and zip tied it to the stock engine mount as close to the carb as possible.

Yes it's a Saito FA 100. I've got a few gallons ran through it and it runs great. I adjusted the valves as per the manual after the first gallon. The engine purrs at idle and has a lot of power. It's turning a 15x6 APC prop around 9600 which is about 200-300 lower than max rpm.
I've had ZERO problems with my cline setup on this engine. It takes one quick burp with an electric starter and fires up every time. No priming neccessary.
I run an OS #F plug instead of the Hanger 9 plug that came with the engine. Idles better with the OS and turns a few more rpm.

Just got mine flying this past weekend and thought I'd pass along my experiences. Saito 100 with Cline regulator. I had to adjust the low end quite a bit for a reliable idle. Once I did that it ran GREAT! I have the Cline zip tied in the middle of the engine mount center hole (the hole in the base where the front of the fuel tank is supposed to come through.) I just drilled extra holes in the firewall for the fuel lines. I have the tank at c.g. Running a 15x6 but will try the 16x4 this weekend.
Little pitch coupling with "normal" knife edge passes. Quite a bit with "3D" rudder throws when doing a high alpha knife edge pass. I've got some mixing to do! Incredibly effective rudder at 3D rates, though.

its here and finally ready to fly, it weighs 10 lbs. uses a 17x8 prop and according to the engine owners manual it will produce 17 lbs of thrust with this prop so the 10 pound plane should still fly light. i used a lot of reinforcements in the landing gear area which added to the weight. fuel tank is over CG. and batteries are located in the tail.

10lbs! Thats the heaviest UCD I've heard of. I hope the combo works out for you, but not not real optimistic. I've always heard that for good 3D you should have a Thrust to weight ratio of 2:1. Sounds like you'll be a bit short. Please let us know how it flys. Good luck.

Ron, save your money. You don't need a digital rudder servo. Save it and get digitals on your Carden. I (and others) are using standard or high torque servos with great success. What I'm offering is a dollar savings without sacrificing performance.

Put the fastest 80 oz. or better servos on the elevator, and ailerons, then put the highest torque servo on the rudder 90oz. or better. make the stiffest push-rods you can and put the rudder horn as low as you can to facilitate max down elevator throw.
If you do these things, the UCD will do some incredible things beyond the scope of one set up with slow lower torque servos and spongy push-rods. I use a FX 91 with stock muffler and baffle removed and a APC 15x8 along with Byrons 15% fuel, c/g 5" back from leading edge and high rate throws as much as I can get. This has been the set up that I have used in three UCD`s that I have owned and worn out, Well two that I`v worn out sold and one I`m still working on.
Good Luck And Have Lots Of Fun
