U Can Do #4 just went out the door with its proud new owner, well not quite. On the way out he hit the hor. stab. on the door jamb and put a crack across the fuse from the stab block down to the bottom of the fuse. Dosn't take much, does it. I guess he'll have to bone up on his repair skills. Joe

would a saito 120 be to much for the UCD to handle? i have a two stroke .91 in it now and i want a 4 stroke. thanks!

There are several people here that use or have tried a Saito 120. I'd think it would be a little much and the added weight would just add to an already nose heavy plane. But like I said people are using them. I use a Saito 100 it it's got plenty of power and good vertical.

been using these for over a year now and have yet to have a problem on any of my planes that have it. hmm...

Matt, This original Quik Fueler is about 18 months old and no problems. I have them on other planes, not quite as long, but no problems. Like I said, in the event it went bad I wouldn't hesitate to replace it with the same. Joe

Hey Gents,
I fly with DiabloKid and we both have been using the dubro Kwik-Fills for over a year now. I have heard about leaks and the valve assembly o-rings eventually going south. If you check within close proximity of the where you got the Kwik-Fill you should also find the Kwik-Fill Rebuild Kit, about $3.65. Comes with new o-rings (big and small sizes for both sides of the valve), a new spring, shuttle (valve), nut and lock washer, and not that we need it, but easy to follow instuctions. I replace mine every 5 gallons and haven't had an air leak or fuel problem, etc. Little maintance goes a long way, heck you change your oil in your car, don't you?

8hrs who are they kidding? Took me over 14hrs! BUT WHAT A GREAT FLYING PLANE! Have a Magnuym 91 fs and added no weight for the CG. This plane can do it all. Bought mine when they 1st came out. What a floater tho. It can take anything you dish out. Hope you all enjoy!!! JIM

I went to the flying field today and what a great day to fly. Clear sky and very little wind. At one time today we had six UCANDO'S in the air or getting ready to fly. As long as I have been flying I have never seen an airplane as popular as this one. I had a ball flying mine today.

Actually they boast 8 t0 10 hrs. After you build a couple it should get easier. #4 took me 30 hrs. with mods. I don't think you could do it in 10 with their hardware in stock version. Joe

I have a UCD 3D 60 size on order for winter flying. I am in Canada (5 months winter) so if you love to fly, you have to fly in winter too. Just read the post on skis and wanted to say that winter flying can be fun. Some of the best skis are manufactured just 5 minutes from my place so I can't find an excuse not to fly. The owner of the company and I are friends and we chat quite often about designing other RC related items. In fact he is always trying out new manufacturing techniques though I think his skis are perfect. His skis are made from aluminum, Teflon and has a spring loaded, forward locking mechanism. They are light, RF noise free and easy to mount, less than 8 minutes. I have sat with him and designed skis for monster trucks and tried them out today, they were a blast. I will be making those with him and will be marketing them soon. See pics attached.

If you have built a PQHOR or a PBF, then you have all the parts you need for skis. You can make skis out of coroplast cut lengthwise with either metal wire or carbon shafts for strength. Use some alunminum U channel and some wheel collars, and youre in business. Tail skid would be smaller, with the same aluminum channel. The edges of the coroplast act like edges on a real ski, makes for very good ground handling. I dont have pics of the skis we used last year. Try doing a search for in-flight video footage from a seniorita on RCU. I think there are pics of the skis in that thread.

Oh yeah, You can use a Saito 150 on the UCD with a few mods, and it flies really reallly really well. It is a tad heavier than with a 91fx (been there, done that), but the two extra inches of prop diameter (17x6 on the 150 vs 15x6 on the 91) has to be seen to be believed. My plane has held up well (for a year now) with this setup.

Okay, back on topic. Ponder this fellow U Can Do'ers. With a Saito 100 this frame is carrying just under 21 oz. of engine up front. If you were to scratch build a UCD what percentage increase in size would it have to be to accomadate a 3lb. gasser? I know someone already did a weight mod on a G23 and is flying it but its got to be a lot of weight upfront. Also take into consideration not only the engine but the weight of the additional support equippment that goes with gas. Is it feasable to figure out the percentage of weight increase of hardware and apply that to determine how big the increase in size is required? Again I need a math whiz or would it be an aerodynamical guru? Joe

I'm thinking of something besides the stock hinges on this new build. I'd hate to regret it down the road since I've read a few bad comments on the GP variety. Any recommendations?

id use the radio south hinges, alot better than the gp hinges that come with the kit
I pancaked mine in when i ran out of fuel low to the ground while practicing elevators
orderd the fuse to rebuild it but the more i get into repairing the wing the more i find out I should gotten one those also.
rather sell the fuse and just pick up a full kit later

Only hitch is Tower is out of the cowls and I got burned by an RCU member who I paid $10 for his and he has dissapeared Anyone know where I can get one or has one for sale?

Tower Hobbies had a wing in there Scratch and dent area.( 46 size) Good luck
