I liked mine with the BCMA 26cc. It had plenty of power for hovering and pulling out of a hover. I did not add any tail weight, but I put the rudder servo in the back and I put the Rx battery on a tray I made about 1/3 back from the trailing edge of the wing in the tail, (I think it ended up being about 8" or so aft of the trailing edge of the wing).

That was the APC 16X4W, I believe. The other one I ran was the Xoar 18X6. I really prefered the APC. It brought the engine up to just about 9k RPM's, so I had a really nice throttle range.
The oil is Klotz SuperTechniplate from Tower Hobbies at about a 40:1 ratio.
This was after a few gallons through the engine, so it was nice and broken-in. The biggest mistake I'm finding that people that move to gasoline engines are making is running the engine rich during break-in or expecting the engine to be broken-in after a few tanks like in most glow engines.
The gassers really pick up a lot of power after they're thoroughly broken-in.
I didn't do anything to keep weight down except move the battery pack aft instead of adding weight to the tail.

You'll find that these engines break in much more quickly on non-synthetic oils and from running higher RPM's. As long as it doesn't get too lean, there's nothing wrong with letting it wring out a bit. Adam at BCMA told me that as long as I kept it at around 9k RPM's max it wouldn't hurt it.

i think i will go for the Evolution, anyone got some pics showing the pipe / muffler fitted.
will the tuned pipe make much differance from the inverted wrapround muffler ?
i'm not after squeezing all the power from this, just want a nice clean setup.
my main current planes are the mini showtime and a Pulse 40 XT, will this be a big step for me, i'm a confident flyer and starting to throw the mini showtime around quite a bit, will the bigger showtime be easier to fly that the lightweight mini?

I haven't flown the mini, but I know that the 90 size flies great. Depending on the distance between the engine and firewall, you may have to modify the front end to get the pitts muffler to fit. The tuned pipe will provide more power and (probably) less modification. Both will provide a "clean-ish" setup.
Pitts muffler is cheaper, but produces less power, and you may have to hack-up the nose...
Stuffing a gas engine in my Showtime took a little work, but I think it was worth it.

due to shop clearance i'm able to get 3x HS5645's and two HS925's very cheap.
was thinking of using HS925's on the ailerons and the HS5645's in the tail, do you think this should be OK ?
evo 26 is still what i'm thinking of up front, what prop would you recomend ? 16x8 ??
i have had someone local say a use a SC108 or SC120 2 stroke, but i really want to get away from the Glow mess and fuel cost's
also would you recomend using plastic hindges or are the CA ones OK ?
really want to get started on this, but the wifes put it away until my birthday on 29th, gives me time to get engine ect sorted

Definitely do NOT use the stock CA hinges!!
I had read about several failures after I had already built and flown my Showtime several times. Then, one day, one of my elevators separated from the stab. The plane was acting funny so I decided to land it, and it became VERY unstable when I took the power off to land. When it came in the elevator half was still attached by the control horn but all the hinges were gone.
Use Robarts or similar.

The CA hinges are crap. Mine sheared in half when I bumped my elbow into an elevator. I replaced mine with some Great Planes non-CA hinges. As for the prop for your Evo. something in the 17-18" range would be good. I like APC, but they get pretty heavy in the larger diameters. I'm not familiar with those servos, but as long as they're over 80 oz.in., you'll be fine.

Those servos will work great on the ST. In fact, they're a little bit overkill, which is good! I have had great luck with the Xoar props. The 18X6 was what I was running on the BCMA 26cc.

i'm sure it will cost too much as i would want at least 3 battery packs for it and they would be more than the cost of an Evo 26GX alone before getting a motor and ESU ect. i'll see what their ring leader has to say on thursday, maybe he's got some secondhand bits to sell me.

the electric club started on me on sunday, and i know the main chap who will try and talk me round will be there tomorrow on our club night.
it will cost be about £300 for the Evo and muffler, and 3 batteries will be more that that and i wouldn't want any less than 3, plus the motor and ESU cost
when its done it will have to be just for normal calm flying for now, managed to break my second mini showtime on monday, should be fixable. think i need to try new things on the aerofly sim more before the real thing.

couldnt wait for the Evo 26GX to be available in the UK, so i have just ordered a MVVS 26 IFS SP which is the same engine any way, plus is a bit cheaper, especially the manifold and pipe compared to what Evolution ones are.
just need to sort batteries, and fuel tank, any sugggestions for tank size & type, needs to be for a good 12 min flying.

think i've got everything ready for my build.
MVVS 26 turned up yesterday with pipe ect, i was quite surprised how big the tuned pipe was @ 40mm dia, but then i suppose the whole thing will be bigger than i'm used to.

got a 2000mah 2s lipo for ignition and 6v 2700mah for radio on there way. got a heavy duty switch for the ignition, not sure if its really needed.

Alright, guys, my BCMA is gonna be replaced with a CRRC 26. I'll post what I find. Judging by YouTube vids, this thing's got some power...and it's cheaper!
