Luke, the Saito may take a bit of tuning on the idle, but great once done. Also the valves will probably need adjusting. Do this after a few runs.
OK folks, a quick game of spot the difference. Can you spot the difference between this:

as for cartmans servos, hes got more grunt than a 3003!
the 2 Leos for one 36 - pipe still gets me.....

No?
OK the answer is of course glue. About 2hours and 1/4 pot of thin CA between them.
So going well so far.
Archie, looking good so far. Only comment to make other than it all fits perfectly is that I think the CNC machine needs a new drill bit, as it had ripped rather than cut some of the lightply parts.
Nothing major, just needed a bit more work with the sanding bar than expected. I suppose it is partly due to using lightweight light ply.
Still the parts fitted perfectly, all straight and true.
One thing, a part of me will always be with this plane. I managed to glue myself to it quite a bit !!!!!!
further updates to follow over the weeks.

mine got the ritual blooding, right on the balsa under the tank.
saw the glue on F1, but so much of it i thought you might have screwed up and got your little hole the wrong side and turned it round.
pay attention to those little holes guys... they each have a reason. the ones on the fuz i've penned in after covering. to line the ailerons up with

whats a naber?
Luke, Looks like your chuffed with the Saito then? Must say I'm very tempted. What prop are you gonna run when its broken in?
Archie, I had to admit defeat with my Capiche gave it to a Club mate to finish the build. Am too busy to complete it but at least it will be finished this side of Xmas!

Come on edible make an effort with the spelling, everybody thinks you are a baby monkey with a keyboard!
With regard to noise, the Saito is lovely quiet below 1/2 throttle, and then makes a deep roaring sound at full power. Within 10 decibels to that of an Irvine 53 at full chat with a 13x4 prop.
To awnswer everybodies questions, i'm running in the Saito 72 with a 12x8 along with Irvine contest 10%nitro fuel. After four tanks i am getting nearly 10,000 rpm with this prop.
Anybody got figures of the West 50 or irvine 53 with this prop? Archie reccommends the 13x6 for the Saito. i will put it on when its run in.
It starts really well!
At the moment it needs adjusting to run really smoothly. At the moment its a bit uneven but hey its a new engine!
The valvy bits need to be adjusted after 1 hour running in.
I will adjust the low speed needle after 6 tanks have gone through.
So far.....the engine is very good for how new it is.
Hercmate, Ive seen 3Dsteins capiche with one at sandown doing really low level torque rolling so if its good enough for such a good pilot it will probably be enough for the likes of you and me!
Should i put this info into another thread titled "Capiche 50 engines"?
Luke

I am a baby monkey when it comes to typing, i quite fast and almost touch tipe, just gotta practice a bit more!
This question is very off topic so only PM me the answer: im gonna build a new UC for a cougar, it needs to be tall cos i love looping touch n goes, how tall do i need it?
back on the subject then............

crikey youve been busy and im glad to see its mostly on topic.
Boy...and Baron...what poop !? this whole thread is my kinda poop !
edible might need a pull up panty but any kind of capiche poop is my poop !!
LOL...
anyway....
Ed, I know about you and Dr J.
Shadow... ignore him !
Ed.... I will believe you when I see your order and not before !
You are the bestest and the badest..
So good with entusiasm and nonsense (we all talk a bit of it lets be honest)//// and so bad with your spelling.... and abuse of planes.. i mean cougar bodge pleaaaase ! HELP !
ANYWAY back in CCL (short for Cloud Capiche Land!)
Luke.... looking good.... dont take my word for it on the 13x6, take 3dstein ! I guess from the commentary you aint famililar with 4T.
I agree with Baron and others on the whole but certain applications require diff means and sometime 2T can step in especially in the small end... I too have a special place for the W36... it is quite special...
if you want 3D performance then clearly 4t is the route when you get over 5lbs airfame... torque to me babay !
ps.. for those doubters... no wine !
Baby duty all day tomorrow ! Mamma's goin' t'France ! Ahhh !

Edible,
Just jestin' about your spelling! Always good for a laugh but touch typing is for secretary's and the like! How did you discover West's run well on Bekra? I spoke to Weston and they swore blind it needed their Prosynth fuel. Obviously thay would say that its their fuel, but I gather the warrenty is void if it goes wrong and they find out you're using different?
Archie,
Entertaining the wifes 12 girlie workmates tonight (on bbq duty)wine flowing from BOTTLES quite happily! Its hell, honest!
Are you yet doing the whole hardware thing? I'll send you an email soon re engine, uc etc plus I'll need a few other bits too.

I should be getting drunk with my mates right now, but my mums starting to clamp down on my outings, so here i am on RCU on a friday night!
Yep you guessed it Archie its my first four stroke and i am really liking it so far- apart from the needle valve which is on the same side as the extremely HOT silencer ,mind yer fingers!
As far as weston and their fuel goes, the magnum series of engines are pretty much identical to ASP(who does not reccommend a specific fuel). They clearly just want you to use their fuel. All the magnum engines ive seen running on other non-prosynth fuel have been good runners.
We have been doing a load of work on the linkage setup on the Capiche rudder over the past two days, because i figured if i'm spending loads on a servo i'm getting the linkage quality to match it. Lots of maths involved
. Tapping a thread on a length of 4cm piano wire to go through the rudder for horns on either side is very difficult even for a concorde enginneer!
If the finishing of my capiche goes down to the wire, i might have to arrive early and test fly it at knebworth before the comp starts!

Luke.
My YS 63 did 11,900 on 13x4W with 20\20 Yamada mix.
I heard West 50 did 12,200 static same prop.
13k sounds a little optimistic to me? but airbourne you will find your Saito has better throttle responce over a 2 stroke.
I am now using 13x6 but alas have not tach'd motor with this combi.
West 35 will run on anything but avoid castor
Mine had 11x4 apc.
Tapping piano wire sounds hard work!
Why not use tapped 3mm rod?

doesn,t drive it at the deck full throttle in "Blenders"!!
it will dance. Give the RUDE ER a good servo though Cartman or you may regret it.
Archie go clean your own poop also
Off to workshop loads to do

right.........my west runs on Bekra, got kinda the same stuff in it, no caster all klots, but its red, i think weston say this for advertising, no one in our club useses prosynth, i had a gallon once but i used that, then i switched to bekra cos Dr.J gets it cheaper.
My west runs at 13,000rpm, i tunend it for ages to get the best of it, the tach was a real good quality one, i'll try and take a pic of it within the next year
the only 2 downsides to the west are that the props are expensive that they need and the bit on the needle which keeps it in place is very soft metal and min snaped.

The reason dad used piano wire instead of tapped 3mm rod was because it wouldnt have been as strong. Had to normalise it first to get it soft enough. Anealing would have been better but it would have taken much longer. Now weve got a horn to match the 12ishkg pull servo on the rudder!
With regard to full thottle blenders, most planes won't go cleanly into one at that speed any way. They will do a couple of rotations in a spiral dive and then flick into a blender.
I think they look better anyway when entered going slowly.

I would like to see someone do a full throttle blender with a Majestic, Synergy or any other 3D plane, But way out the way as the plane WILL definitely EXPLODE!!

Luke, you can take the carb off the Saito and turn it around so the needle is on the other side, I have. Just be careful doing it so that you don't strip any threads, and get a tight seal between the carb and the engine, you don't want any leaks.
My Saito 72 is going on my Capiche. I have got one of those Weston Quiet silencers for it, and a perry pump so that I can maximise the performance
