Britton, if i had the money i would have gone with a Saito. I really wanted the 82, but i am sure this crazy folks would have convinced me to get the Satio 100.

As it is with my budget I purchased a Magnum 91 from Tower for $145 ($170 - 25 coupon). For that price it was definetly worth a try. I had my first flight today with it, but that is for a different post.

Ceegee, i love my 46 AX, and it did a fairley decent job of hauling the UCD, it will be great in that katana profile if you get it running well. It is now in my Avistar and that thing screams. I get a little worried from time to time because its going so fast. I cant figure out if its one of my wheels or the the rubber bands but every now and then when i hit terminal velocity in the Avi i get this odd noise. The guys at the field say it sounds like a big tucks jake brake.

A while back i had bubbling problems in a tank and i added foam and a different type of clunk. It looked kind of like a stone, almost like an airstone for a fish tank if you know what that looks like. That really seemed to help at the time.

HAHA! I am hogging the thread.

So today was the first flight with the Magnum. I have to admit i was still about 10-15 minutes short of the recomended break in time but i just couldnt see it running without flying it. Well the engine thought better and kept stalling on the runway when i had it at idle. It ran great at full, but just wasnt idling. Possible because i had it running rich. But it ran great with the glow plug ignitor on. So i tried switching glow plugs. Still the same. So I ran her a little bit more on the ground.

Finally i kept the throttle a little higher and had some one hold it and then let it go. What a difference. I am so used to 40 size 4 strokes it felt like I was just gliding it around because there was hardly any noise, and my throttle was at a 1/4. I got to try one hover and I held it for all of about 10 seconds, but felt a lot more comfortable.

Well stupidly i tried to run her around at idle to see how it behaved. STALL. Low and over the runway. No way to get it back. Blew out the Landing gear again. I think i may actually take the chance to lower the tank.

Not much of a flight report. Will give a better one when i get a real flight in. But I can tell i am really going to like it.

Britton... I like 4c's... Some like the 2c's... I have/had a YS 63FZ on
my UCD 46.. I loved it.. But in the summer here in AZ.. I was wanting
a bit more... I think the YS is just a tad less than the Saito 82, because
the 82 will turn a bigger prop better IMO... Anyway that would be my
choice.. Saito 82....

sctcrash... Sorry to hear of your problem....

As you know I was going to use my Mag 91.. But now have changed to the
Saito 100 since I found a Great Deal on one!... If I ever get working on it...
Anyway people at the field was telling me that they would be surprized if I
did not have a flooding problem with an inverted Mag and not lowering the
tank to the level of the carb.. I told them that I lowered the tank as far as
it will go without cutting (more) into the engine mount(GP60-120) or moving
the tank back... And that I was under a half inch above the carb.. And still
they thought the same on the flooding with the Mag????... But I'm sure I
read somewhere that someone had no problems??? As I said I was going to
try it and lean the low end as much as I could to see if that helped if not I
was just going to lower the tank as it should be... I just said the above
because you said you may lower your Tk. And that if you do you should
get it even with the carb...

Or..... get one of those regulators<?> Or on board glows... That a make it
work....

I've never had a flooding problem with the 46. The 60 is far worse but the 46 isn't bad. I wouldn't change a thing until you fly it and experience a problem. Like raideron says...it really isn't too bad.
Also, one of my new favorite landings is the KE landing. Thing of beauty.
Thanks

Britton, Out of the ones that you have listed I would go with the Saito 82. It's actually lighter than the 72 and has more poop. Or is that pep? [:-] Anyway chief aircraft will send you a "monthly specials list" if you send them your email address and you should be able to get one for about $235. [link]http://www.chiefaircraft.com/[/link] I would think that you'd be happier with a 4 stroke on the UCD.

Sctcrash, I checked out a bubbleless filter from Tower and that sounds like it would do the trick. Thanks for the idea. [8D] I didn't think of that. I did put some foam behind the tank so I'll see tomorrow if that helped. With your UCD I would just get it running and fly around through some tanks of fuel before trying hovering or anything else. If it's anything like my Saito 82 was at first they aren't real reliable untill they've been around a bit.

Hey Gary, I got to thinking that I could put an extra set of landing gear on the top of my plane and fly inverted. [8D] It would probably help with inverted flat spin landings too. [X(]

Time to put you guys to work. I have been flying a little over a year. 35 to 40 flights. My abilities are that I can land, fly circles, inverted, loops, and land without crashing most of the time. Give me some hints as the throws i should start with, where to start as to what i work on first and give me any ideas as to what to expect. Flat spins or flat spin landings are not an option right now (Barry). I did that one on my last plane. Sig Kavilier. I fly a slow poke now with a Saito 72, which flys sloooooow. But doesn't do much else. It has an 18" flat-bott. wing with alot of dehidral. What can i expect out of UCD with saito 80?

Doug, just set it up soft on the elevator(about 3/4 in to start) and soft on the ailerons (1in to 11/2in) to start and just fly it around a little and then you can up it as your ready, with that engine your ready to get out of any troubles you get into except the ground

you can expect the best flying plane you have ever flown, and easy too!, go forward with confidence, just not to wild at first and you will be an old ucd pro before long[8D]

llet us know how it goes!!

got some great new inverted pics CEEGEE will post tomorrow(even hovering ones too!!!!!)

Great [:-] Can't wait to see them......[>:]

Dougwill, If you have a computer radio you could set it up with dual rates and some expo and then fly up a couple of mistakes high and try it out. It's relatively easy to fly. You'll do fine with it. It's about as fun as it gets. [8D]

dougwill.... As CeeGee said:-)... If you have a computer radio...
Get all you can get on your control surfaces... Then just adjust
with the dual rates setting on your radio... say 30-40% on the
low setting and 100 with expo on the hi... then readjust as needed..
Some radio's as mine does not have duel rate on the rudder but
IMO it's not bad on that surface... But I'm saving for a JR replacement...

If you control the sticks good.... The plane flies like a kitten... I don't
think you'll have a problem with it... As with most planes and maybe
more so with the Do... very little stick keeps all in control...

35-40flts/yr..... Dang.... I almost get that in a month... No wonder my
fuel bill is so high... I did spend "way" more than I thought(and told
the boss [X(]) I would for my 17mos. in the hobby:-(... But it's Great

... My "Do's" still sleeping:-(... I woke it... But then it scared me... It had
that.....Just wait look......... But man the Saito 100 sure is running GREAT
in the 4*... already got about 15 flts on it.... And it runs Sooo Smooth
I do a bit of a roll out, slowly push the stick... And she's in the air NOW!!
Man.... Gary.... Did you put wires on the wings too

Lower.... Lower... Lower...... But they won't do it:-).... Great flying!!

Yea.. I was trying to hover the heaver 4* off the deck, but was having a time with
it because it just wanted to climb with the slightest touch of the throttle.. I
can imagine the re-learning I'll need on the "Do".... If the wings stay on

Great pictures. It does look like you have great time flying, especially with your family. That's a funny looking "Do" crashed in the second picture.?!?!?!? Nice low passes. Is that as low as you can go?
Thanks

Hello Everyone!
Flew 4 flights with Slow Poke. UCD will be ready by end of week. Looks so good that im afraid to fly it. I know i have get over it and just fly, fly, fly. Will set the rates up as suggested. Right now i have standard servo horns on plane, will set up max travels, and 50% on low rates. Not going to worry about expo right now. Will fly it easy till i'm comfortable or we run out of flying time. In ohio you never know when your last flight will be. Flew my wife on trainer cord last night. She didn't to to bad. She enjoys going down to the field.

Everyone thinks I am a pro at landing. I try and tell them its just the plane, but since they dont beleive me, i will take the credit.

Ceegee, i have to remember to try and keep it simple till i break the engine in ITS JUST SO HARD!!

I did notice when i had it on the ground with the 4s cranking that i get a lot of elevetor flutter. It seems it comes from a combination of my servos(Futaba 3004s) having a little play, and my connection to my contol horns. My hitech rudder servo definetely has less play. What does everyone recomend for better control horns.

sctcrash... I'm still using the stock setup.. only changes are the 440 rods
and dubro extra strength long arms... And there all doing good so far..
I'm sure all will give info... If money is of no concern... I would go with
central hobbies setups....

http://www.centralhobbies.com/contro...e/carbrod.html

But you can find decent setups in most the internet hobby shops....

sctcrash, i have all the slop out of mine(central hobbies carbon fiber w/dubro balls) and my control surfaces have always fluttered when on the ground, i think that once airborne its not reverberating off the ground, i have no problems in the air, hope this helps.

CEEGEE!!!! put that magnifying glass up(thought i had those wires mirrored good)[X(]

my wife wont let me hook her up on the trainer box
