mnrcaerobat... Great advice above from the experts!!... Can't beat CF rods... I tried to save
some $$$$, so I just used 440 rods that I had with the stock horns etc. all else is what came
with the "D0"... Well not that I had too, or gained much if any, but I went with the bigger
engine mount and a different tk. I also started with the sulivan tailwires, but they have been
removed and all is still hanging on there... The biggest thing is to in no way score the bulsa
when removing the covering and you should have no problems... Ohh I also went with GP
pinned hinges and used Gorilla/pro bond glue, I love the stuff, and I only used it on two
planes so far.. the "Do" and S.T. but it will be the glue of "my" choice from now on...
OK.. some help
.. I started to work on installing the Hyde mount, but that's on hold.. but
anyhow... Here is some pic of the S-82 after just 4 15min flts. starting out clean....
is that about how it is even with the stack(fuel mess)... or am I still running too rich? my H.S.
is almost always at 1&1/4-1/2 open...

What did you use at the ends of your cf rods? I have had problems with the smaller rods wanting to split in the past. I have used shrink tubing over my cuts.

Have fun with your U Can Do build. It's been the funnest plane I've owned.
I make my own rods out of carbon fiber tube and 2-56 rod ends. I'm sure they're not as good as the Central hobbies ones but I can the components at my LHS. Don't know if anyone mentioned but you'll want to beef up the landing gear too. Gjeffers has pictures of how to do it. It's very easy to do and needed. I never did install the tail wire set up. Kept forgetting to. But I've owned 3 Do's and never needed them. [insert: knock on wooden head : here]
The Do's are the best plane around and since I'm the only one at my field that flies one I look like a genius. [X(] I'm sure that would change if Gjeffers, Barry and Ron showed up......[>:]

Radieron,
What's up with all that fuel line?? Looks like a problem.... my S72 is as clean as a whistle, add the opt. Saito Velocity Stack and run that crankcase vent out the bottom by itself.

What servos should I run on my ailerons and elevator? I have some standards and/or Hitec HS-625MG.

I have the same engine Saito 82 and I never had any black stuff coming out like that. It definitely not good, when it's coming black it's because something is not right inside the engine. Anybody idea? I would maybe send an email to horizon hobby and see from there???

You know guys, at first I wasn't a big fan of that plane, but now that I fixed my gear thank to you! I really like it now especially with the Saito82 14x4W go match. It's a ruff plane specially after many snap rolls! I know now that is one the busiest post on RCU!
Right now in Cold Lake it's winter and I flight on the lake one block from my house, there a video I made with the plane on ski, noting special just winter flying!
By the way, I think that the regular hardware who come with the plane is just fine except for the tail wheel.
Have a good weekend all!

Great video choopi. It's neat to see some Do action. It's been too rainy / windy here to fly. Yuk! We had a major wind storm that demolished the area. Hopefully I can out soon. I need a Do fix. [

Thanks guys,
I know it's a cold but at least there is no bugs! I usually flight around 30 degrees if it is not to windy, you just have to dress good! and when it's colder that when I start with the electric like my funjet.

Black and Grey steaks around a Saito motor. Aluminum and oxygen make grey/black. I had this once on a Saito 150 for a few flights. Turned out to be a loose exhaust elbow. I think the elbow is steel, and it was vibrating on the aluminum muffler. By the time I found the problem the threads on the muffler were stripped. Had to purchase a new muffler. Check you exhasut elbow to head connection, your elbow to muffler, and your intake from carb to engine. Bet one of them is loose. Tighten and problem goes away, if you are not too late. Ahh.. That's just great... [:@] Thinking I got a lemon 82.. she sure does shake a bit.. But
she just runs and runs.. I went through all the screws and they were all tight, I did pull the
intake and greased the o-rings when I put the stack on.. And the exhaust has never come
loose, it's locked tite and screwed as far in as possible... Guess I'll clean her up leave the
cowl off, run and check it out.....

choopi....Do you use some kind of cover on your radio? I tried flying with gloves one time...that didn't work for me. Kinda like flying without my lucky hat. Anyways, if you have a link to something you've purchased to keep your hands warm while flying, I'd appreciate you sharing it.
Thanks
Barry

Barry,
I always use my flying glove that we use in the Canadian Air Force, you can get those on line, they are very good(25$). That is the only glove that I can feel the sticks on the radio and the swtiches they are good for me anyway easily down to 15F.

Not that it gets that cold here... But for us AZ folk... 40degs is freezing, as they say
first one in starts the fire
I tried some light wool gloves last time out.... It wasn't too bad, but funny thing on
my second flt. on to the last the gloves were off... It just does not feel right, it
seems to take the touch away....

a big ol pouch made out of rabbit fur(Something like the nfl quarterbacks use except way bigger and sewed up on one end) and put your ant out a top slit, then slid your paws in the bottom and that way your hands would be warm and you wouldnt loose the touch

People at the field were talking about something like that... I also tried cutting the thumb
and finger on the gloves some so that the tips of my finger/thumb were out, but those
gloves started staying home also... Guess it just does not get that cold here.. But in that
snowy area you would need something for sure....

Here's a couple of links. The first one looks pretty nice but I don't know anyone that has ordered from the company. The second one is a home made version with the basic plans posted so you can make your own.

I have a Saito 80 on my U-CANDO and because it needs to be rebuilt I want to put a new Saito 82 on it but have heard that it doesn't run well up side down, any input on this would be great.
