Hi gjeffers...Man I envy you. You're flying,,,,I'm freezing.
New guy is mnrcaerobat...I see you've already met him. Welcome to the greatest thread on RCU. You'll like it here. And you won't find more info about a UCD anywhere. Just ask and your questions mysteriously get answered. You'll love the plane. And contrary to some's belief...I think the 100 will be enough motor.
Thanks
Barry

Brian, I see your from Minnetonka, glad to see you found this great thread and your going to love the UCD. I'm on my second one and I'm running a Saito 100 as well. What field are you flying at?
I'm from Hutchinson but several of the guys from our club get down to most all the swap meets and auctions in the twin cities.

mnrcaerobat... Welcome to the "Do" fourm....
Gary just meant a fully threaded screw.... I just used 440 pushrods epoxied in.. This mod
will keep the landing gear block in place!! and it's simple and fast to do.... You will love the
S-100 in there.... But remember throttle control... These planes are "really"fun" and.. I didn't
know you could do that" planes!! Not speed planes. They are trainer like, and can get "wild"....
They instill in you confidence in slow flight, landings etc... And you can let your hair down with
a smile.. Well that is if you have hair....
The "Do" did great this am... Me and this other old...(Ahh long timer) were buzzing each other
while the others were sitting and watching (these crazy guys) play over the runway:-) Atleast
he wasn't "Buzzing as much as the "Do" does"... Great fun I got 4 flts and another 6 on the ST
Well again..... Merry Xmas all.... And have a safe and very Happy New Year!!!!
Mele Kalikimaka...... is the thing to say on a bright.....

yes that is the stock mount in the above pic.
allthread is a threaded rod that you can get at any home depot type store, get either 6-32 or 8-32 size, then cut it to length(they come in approx 3ft lengths) and put a slot in the end for a screwdriver and you can screw it in for a snug fit (with epoxy all over it
) just make sure that when you drill the holes you stay clear of the LG mount screws, (look at above pic)

My U can was on the front step when I got home today. I haven't opened the box yet. I had to go pick up a Raptor 30 heli.
I was flying the Ucan on my FMS simulator last night and it sure likes to float. This thing flat spins almost as easy as the spa3d does.

Are you coming to the TCRC Auction on Feb 10th? I think that date is right.

I just found out yesterday what date the auction is and yes I'll be there for sure. This will make my 5th year and it's always a real fun time.

WEE--HAA....... what a great feeling. a new plane
lets see.... the only thing i remember being concerned about were the pushrods being a little wimpy, i would go with 4-40 or carbon fiber from central hobbies on those.
i also hated the tailwheel,(but it will work) i used a sullivan tailwheel for 10-12lb planes
i always have problems(maybe just me) with the ca hinges supplied, i just reinstalled robart hinges and think they will last forever

I use the Central Hobbies carbon fiber pushrods and titanium ends too. Doesn't get any better than that. Funny, I've built so many of these that I thought it came with carbon fiber pushrods. I guess I've just reused mine over and over again.I don't use the CA hinges either. I use the Dubro or Great Planes "pinned" style hinges. If I thought the robart style were not too big I'd have used them. Gjeffers won't lead you astray (except in the power required) so if he says the robart work...they work. I didn't use flying wires on mine...I'm not sold entirely on those but it certainly doesn't hurt to have the extra protection.
If you haven't flown one of these babies...you are in for a treat. But don't let the noise scare you. They all do it. Just make sure you fly it SLOW!
Thanks
Barry

Have fun with your U Can Do build. It's been the funnest plane I've owned.
I make my own rods out of carbon fiber tube and 2-56 rod ends. I'm sure they're not as good as the Central hobbies ones but I can the components at my LHS. Don't know if anyone mentioned but you'll want to beef up the landing gear too. Gjeffers has pictures of how to do it. It's very easy to do and needed. I never did install the tail wire set up. Kept forgetting to. But I've owned 3 Do's and never needed them. [insert: knock on wooden head : here]
The Do's are the best plane around and since I'm the only one at my field that flies one I look like a genius. [X(] I'm sure that would change if Gjeffers, Barry and Ron showed up......[>:]

mnrcaerobat... Great advice above from the experts!!... Can't beat CF rods... I tried to save
some $$$$, so I just used 440 rods that I had with the stock horns etc. all else is what came
with the "D0"... Well not that I had too, or gained much if any, but I went with the bigger
engine mount and a different tk. I also started with the sulivan tailwires, but they have been
removed and all is still hanging on there... The biggest thing is to in no way score the bulsa
when removing the covering and you should have no problems... Ohh I also went with GP
pinned hinges and used Gorilla/pro bond glue, I love the stuff, and I only used it on two
planes so far.. the "Do" and S.T. but it will be the glue of "my" choice from now on...
OK.. some help
.. I started to work on installing the Hyde mount, but that's on hold.. but
anyhow... Here is some pic of the S-82 after just 4 15min flts. starting out clean....
is that about how it is even with the stack(fuel mess)... or am I still running too rich? my H.S.
is almost always at 1&1/4-1/2 open...

MAN, where is all that comming from Ron? i havent ever seen a mess like that, and dirty tooooo[:'(]
whatever its not right, is it comming from the blowby? ive ran mine way rich but never a dirty looking mess like that[X(] if your getting spitup from the carb it would be clean but that looks like its comming right out the back, you dont have a nipple on the backplate with no hose do you?(i know you dont

i hate to ask but is your case cracked at the mounting flange?
