U-Can-Do 3d 46?
#5676
thats totally false, the 82 runs as well inverted as it does upright. it all matters on the tank height related to the carb spraybar (not more than a inch difference). and as far as the ucd 46 (or even the 60) you will have no problems, go for it
#5677
Wes, i must add that people that do have problems with saitos inverted will also have problems with upright saitos because they are not tuning them right. after breakin a saito must be leaned out quite a bit for it to perform good. i dont know how much you know about tuning a saito but if you have any problems just let me know or you can go to club saito and get some good info

My Saito 82 work perfect on UCANDO. I use a Tachometer to tune mine.

I've run a lot of UCDs with Saito engines both the 100 and the 82. They run excellent inverted. No problems at all. Be sure you lean the engine down. I think most never get the bottom end lean enough. I love the 82/46 combo. Thanks

I'm on the 3rd Do with the same 82 Saito. Runs great inverted. No problems at all. The only problem lately has been the rain that keeps me from getting out and flying......[>:]

Hey guys, I run a UCD 46 w/a S72, love it, I do run 30% heli in it. Now I received a UCD 60 size, I have a S100 and a YS110 I could put in it, I know the YS would be great, but is the 100 enough? (open for many comments there....

Ahh.. That's just great... [:@] Thinking I got a lemon 82.. she sure does shake a bit.. But
she just runs and runs.. I went through all the screws and they were all tight, I did pull the
intake and greased the o-rings when I put the stack on.. And the exhaust has never come
loose, it's locked tite and screwed as far in as possible... Guess I'll clean her up leave the
cowl off, run and check it out.....

Hey guys. Here's a really awesome flying vid. It's not a Do but way too cool not to post....... [link=http://www.airworld.online.de/Gemeinsame%20Bilder/Videos/geebee%20web.wmv]GB [/link]
MacDaddy, go with the YS 110. It's perfect for it. The 100 would fly it but you'd be underwhelmed with the performance for sure. [8D]

mnrcaerobat... I use PowerMaster 20/20.... I still have to pull the engine to check,
maybe my crank cover has a crack init?? [8D] I'm still trying to find that nipple
that Gary was talking about [8D]..... Another one of my lifes stories......
You know how those plastics can get.... I know their tight[:@].. I may have turned
the screws a bit too much again... It's been a life's problem for me... Hoping it's
just a gasket, I have those
....
Besides tha above, my other option is to send it in for a check up, or ordering a set
of ceramics for it and replacing them to see if it helps on my vib problem...
And since it's nice and cool now I'll use the Ys 63... But will I go back???
The MacDaddy.... 110!!!!....... On my fuel lines... it's just the normal setup with
a "t" on the intake for my fill line...
Hope all had a Great Xmas!!! Ours was Great, except I got knocked into flu heaven[:@][8D]

Hi Raideron. Regarding black streaks. Now that I have had a chance to think about it I did not explain myself correctly before. When aluminum and steel rub together, it will make aluminum dust. Steel is harder so the aluminum will be the dust not the steel. So this fine power aluminum will combine with O2 in the presence of heat, and the fluid will turn black. Aluminum oxide is black. So I think that you may have something loose and it is causing the aluminum to scuff. Could be the intake or exhaust or internal parts wearing on each other. Aluminum to aluminum. My best quess. Hope that is of some help.

Hey thanks Jim.... That sounds about right... I'm thinking inside the engine...[:@]
It has ran great from the start, and still does but I thought it "shook" a bit more
than my other engines... My break-in was the same as all the others... So....
I just have to find the exit, I'm thinking more than likely the crank cover... But
we'll see... Most my engines "waste" has the "Black" color to it... and all are still
going strong some over three yrs. and 100's of flts... but never as much of it as
the "Do" has shown which it has increased since about a month ago when I
removed it to install the stack etc... So I may have gotten over zealous on my
Re-tightening of all[:@]... Anyway we'll see.... Thanks again
Now that I have been flying it with the 82.. I'm a bit excited to see how the 63
compares in the same "weighted" platform.....

I am flying the do with the 82 Saito also. It does seem to shake a lot. A guy at the field who has several different sizes said that the 82 shakes more than his others. Jim Tucker

I just helped a friend cram a ST 75 in his UCD 46. I don't know if this is a good power combo for this plane, but does anyone have any suggestion on the correct prop?
#5692
looks like super tiger suggests12x6--13x6...... so if ya want you should be ok with a 14x4
here is the link to the specs.

Hi,
just found this forum, and a lot of interesting talk about the U-Can-Do .46. I've had one for a month now, and I just finished the first gallon of fuel with it today. It's a sweet bird I must say.
Anyway, I saw the APC 14x4 propeller mentioned here quite a few times with Saito FA-82a engine. I've got a brand new Saito on mine as well (inverted, runs like a charm, easy to start etc), but I've got a APC 15x4W on it. I was wondering if I should prop it down a bit? I'm running it on Byron 4-stroke fuel with 15% nitro.
I didn't find 15x4 on the list of recommended propellers for it, but this web page lists APC 13x8, 14x6 and 14x8, so I figured I could use the 15x4W as well:

the 15x4w is a great prop for the plane Tony, but the question is "is it good for the saito 82?"
to answer that you must check your RPMs and if there in the 86-9500 range id say great but anythin below that and you do need to prop down a little, say 14x4, but with all that said id like to add that you should never run a 8 pitch on this plane or it will disentigrate in the air from too much speed
and Welcome to the thread, lots of good people here

Toni,
Try running 30% heli fuel, my Saito 72 was a dog on my Do until I switched. I run a 14x4W APC on my 72 in the upper rpm range Gjeffers specified.
Weather here in PA is unbelieveable! 50 degees F yesterday and today. I flew about 3/4 gallon yesterday in the do.... low temp coupled w/low humidity = spectacular performance. I had some nice inverted stationary "pieroettes".

I second the 14X4W prop.......
But since my "D0"/82 seems to shake alot and I love
noise but......................... I have been using the 13X4W it helps somewhat on the "shake"
and for me on the "Bake" part the response is a bit better.... Dang YS's, They make you
notice that a bit..............
Happy New Year People!!!!!!!!!

If anybody wants a new UCD they are on sale all this month at Tower for $125.00. This is the time to buy that new plane or put a spare in stock.I'm gonna get a spare. I'm wondering how much longer it will be available. The Reactor seems to be taking it's place. But not for me.
Thanks
Barry
PS: Happy New Year to everyone. I hope yours is healthy and prosperous.
