hey gang
after a long year of wringing out the UCANDO I FINALLY put the wheelpants on and man it does look purtee' now [sm=sunsmiley.gif]
I am getting it lower and lower now and its becoming fun again! Pucker factor is lower so I am getting braver [sm=idea.gif]
I was 2 min too late and lost a sale of the sought after YS 1.10 to another RCU memeber here in the Market. I have this with servos installed, just need power for it!! Saito 91, YS 91 or 1.10 will power it!

Test was successful. Hello boys..........weathers got everyone pretty much grounded up this way. Didn't winterize the UCD yet. Keep hoping for a break in the weather. At least the dome is keeping the thumbs nimble, at least once a week anyway. later, Joe

Joe,
Glad to here that you are fine and enjoying the electric dome. Hopefully back to normal here within two weeks and we'll see if I need to go on the "Box", as it has been so long.
David, Are you still there, or still with the Rear Bear Boys?? Brian...

I have decided to look for a used Saito 180 this winter and slap it on the my CANUDO! Saw one at my field and have gone crazy imagining ALL that power, also will try to cut a new rudder out from plans found here on one of the threads.
hope everyone is till can-do'ing!

Yo, the UCD is collecting dust, but still keeping the thumbs nimble once a week at the dome. My cabinet shop looks more like a foam factory. Ten planes in the air at once, in a limited airspace can only mean one thing........carnage!!! I've been bringing mine back, but some are not as fortunate with a couple of mid airs per evening. Lot of laughs, with foam raining down like a ticker tape parade.
Dave, are there any planes left to buy? You may have to try your hand at helicoptors.
Matt, I read somewhere that 'too much power is just enough'. Good luck with your search. Joe

JW,
Welcome back and hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful. I bought a YS 63S and another 110 since we heard from you last.
Good news for everyone after all the bad things for us in 2004. Our repair work from Hurricane Charley is completed
. The carpeting went into our "west wing", yesterday afternoon and we started moving back into the rooms last evening. We should be back to normal here after this weekend. I will then start construction on a UCD 46 to be powered by a YS 63S that I've had for awhile. Wifey bought me a H-9 P-51 Mustang for working so diligently on the house, so seems likely that the YS 110 will find a home there. I have made plans weather permitting to go fly for the first time since the storms on December 27th. That ought to be interesting. Ya All take care until later. Brian...

David,
Please send me a PM with your e-mail address in the UK. I tried the one posted and it came back as undeliverable. I will fill you in on Roger's status and provide you with his e-mail address. I can't wait for you to come the states for Roger's contest if we can get that organized. Bring Rear Bear with you, wifey got me a H-9 Miss America P-51 that I will be building shortly with a YS 110 FZ for power
. It should give your plane a run for your pounds sterling

Can anyone compare the U-Can_Do to the Sig Mayhem 3D? They seem to be about the same size and weight, wing loading. I am looking for an easy flying sport plane that will take me to greater things when I'm ready.
Thanx in advance for your advice.

A guy at the feild had a Mayhem and a UCD3D 60 ...The UCD3D 60 is a better plane ..IMO...Iv'e had the same 60 size for 3 years now and love it with the YS110fz and a APC 17x4w prop...JW

JW,
Thanks for the tip on the prop. What do you think about a 12.5 X4 APC?? I think I have a couple of those laying around here somewhere. It will probably be after the holiday obligations are over before I can get started. I did alot of research you know comparing the YS 63 vs the Saito 72, 82 and 100. I decided to give the YS a go and see what happens. Most complaints I have heard are from higher altitude folks. At 15' above sea level (did anyone say storm surge), that shouldn't be a problem here. I would like to get the UCD 46 done first as I am trying to save the 110FZ for another UCD 60 that will hopefully be done over this winter. If not, I'll stick her in Miss A instead of the Saito. Now that we live in the Bastille with our 155MPH rated metal roofing system and our 140MPH rated accordion window shutters, I should't be getting my planes busted up by flying debris
!!

I have both the UCD 60 with a Saito 100 and the Mayhem with a YS 110. I really like both planes and think the fun factor is great on both. But I like my Mayhem the best. It doesn't give up anything to the UCD and I think it flys more precise. It knife edges a lot better, flat spins are a little flatter and does the waterfalls tighter. No putting down the UCD as I have both 46 and 60, I just think the Mayhem is better. Some of my feelings may be based on the YS Engine which allows CG placement of fuel tank and has a little more power, but I'm trying to limit opinion based on flying capabilities only. Thanks,
Barry

I think the 12.25x3.75 is a good 3d prop but the 63s will turn it well over the high RPM limit that YS recommends....Mine turned the 12.25x3.75 at 13,500+ the 14x4w APC worked good but I didn't have much ground clearance that is why I went with the 13x4w APC ...even with this prop it reaches the upper RPM range ....Be careful when you start the 63 as the prop wash may test the 155mph roof and the 140mph shutters....JW (pic#1 is with a 12x4 wood prop ..it turned way to fast)(pic#2 is with a APC 14x4w) (pic#3 is with a APC 13x4w)

gjeffers, I don't have the tank on the CG of my UCD because I'm running a Saito 100 in it and I don't have a pump. By the way, I just maiden my second UCD 60 yesterday. Somehow we got a break in the weather here in Idaho and I got a gift where I could fly this plane. I've had it completed for about a month, just never flew it. After I trimmed it out it flew great. I'd forgotten how my fun this plane is. I flew it 5 times (13 minute flights) At the end I was getting pretty good with it. I was able to do hovers in the 30 second range, which is good for me. I'm using a 16x4W prop and 30%. This is a brand new engine so I was being a little careful but I had plenty of power. This plane had very little coupling to the wheels during knife edge. That surprised me. Going both directions it KE pretty good. I had to give just a little bit of up elevator, but not bad. I expected more problems with it. I was pleasantly surpised. Had a great day flying. It isn't supposed to be this nice in Decembler. Tomorrow looks good to. I might steal a couple of hours from work and do it again. I was very impressed with this new plane. My weight is 7 lbs 4 1/2 oz. She really flys good. I have an extra YS 110 around. I'm tempted to installed it and move the tank. Is yours on the CG? How does yours fly? Thanks,
Barry

hey barry, just a little slow i am but for some reason this thread isnt showing up on my e-mail, ill have to check it out! but yea my tank is over cg and the only bad thing i noticed about moving it is knife edge dives twice as much to the wheels, other than that it really flys nice. it flat spins really great out of a blender. and inverted takes almost no elevator, im still working on my hovers cause one will do good for around 30 seconds and others fall out quicker, ive only been flying almost a year and had to learn by myself out here in nowhere. hope you get better weather than what i see on my forcasts but it dont look good for ya. have a good one. later.

Weather's got me shut down now. We have about a foot of snow. I'm relaxing and enjoying my family. But, I'm about to start putting together my 4th UCD 46 for my winter project. I didn't get anymore time on my big UCD but was sure pleased with what I did fly. I really liked the plane. For now I'm sticking with the Saito and leaving the fuel tank as is. I really did like the way it flew. It will do a fail flat spin. Not as flat as my Mayhem but then again I'm just barely getting it trimmed out. I'll keep ya posted when we can fly again and let you know what happens. Good hearing from you. Thanks,
Barry

Lucky Joe,
Its funny you mentioned the 110 ,I was at the LHS today and I noticed a 110 sitting behind the counter, it was ordered by a guy I know. so I gave him a call on the cell to let him know it was in. To my surprise he told me he didn't want it now ...Sooo I picked it up...
This is #4 for me...( I just couldn't bring myself to leave it behind)...Is that sick or what.....JW

Didn't quite make it to the Bahamas, Sarasota for eight days of 80 degree, sunshine filled, relaxation. No flying though. Missed a lot of bad weather here and I'm going out now to try and plow some ice covered snow. Get my chores done so I won't miss the foam fly at the dome tonight. Later, Joe
