Noveflyer, take a couple of pieces of 2X4 or similar and cut them to the same length, 12-14 inches is good. Nail them to a base, I used 12X12" pieces of shelving stock from Home Depot. Drill a hole in the center of the other end of the 2X4's about the depth of a drill bit and insert a couple of pencils, one in each 2X4 making sure they are the same height and you have a crude but very effective CG checking device. I use a similar method to check everything I have.

Just set the wingtips on the eraser end of the pencil and adjust for level. Hope it helps.

Racsanone,

Did you use a pump with your saito?
How is the performance?
I just mounted my Saito and getting ready to setup the fuel system I have a 24OZ tank with a cline regulator.

Raven, did you invert the engine? I mounted mine horizontal and have lots of room in the cowl.

No i mounted mine horizonal also.
I have lots of room also thinking off a piece of car fuel line as an exhust diverter and only one small hole in the bottom of the cowl.
A remote glow attached to the landing gear, servo operated remote needle valve also if i have to add weight anyway.

Make sure your hole in the bottom of the cowl is big enough to cool the engine. If you make it too small it will get hot and die.

Well, it's coming to a close. I have decided not to put the wheel pants on for the first 1/2 dozen flights... Wheel pants on a rough grass field still scare me. I am a little concerned about the exhaust on the Saito 180 as it is not protruding the cowl at all. I am also concerned that I mounted the engine too far forward. There is not too much room between the head and the cowl and I am afraid of the two bouncing off of each other. Overall, I have to say this is the best arf I have ever put together. It has been a joy...I appreciate everyone's help and will post pics as soon as I can.

Mine came today. Probably take me a month or so to complete it. We're moving so I'll be extra busy.

Hi,
Test flew the Cap X today, it was an excellent flight. The plane flew great at low rates with no expo, I did not try 3D flying. OS BGX engine was not too much, but it was only turning an 18x10 at 7300 RPM. I have to adjust the engine (the carb might be loose). I look forward to flying the plane again soon!
To all those building, get them finished and flying, it is a very nice plane. Mine came out at 13.5# dry, I did not have to add any weight with the BGX engine.
Good Luck,
John

What did I read that you guys are glueing your canopies on with? I elected not to glue it and used 8 small button head screws. Well now the front screws have come loose and my canopy has two small cracks on either side. Im going to take it off and glue it down after drilling two small holes to stop the spread of the cracks but I want to make sure that whatever glue I use stays on for good.

And I now have about 8 flights total on the plane with the DA50 and Im liking it more and more each time. It weighs 13lbs and 3ozs with my Lipo battery setup, which by the way works awsome. I flew 5 flights yesterday at about 15 minutes each and only dropped .2v on either battery by the end of the day.

The plane does pull hard to the left on the up lines but nothing thats not corrected easily with a touch of right rudder. The harriers are pretty nice too. I had to work on my throttle curve a little to keep the throttle controllable but it's great now. And you wouldnt believe how fast this plane torques around in a TR.....holy smokes. Maybe another 5 or 10 flights and have her down on the deck like I do my profiles.

Tailspnr, I use Zap Goo II or else I'll use this stuff the hobby shop sells called R6000. Good stuff, both of them. Dries clear and sticks like, well, glue!! anyway, your canopy will never come off again if you use it.

Thanks cstevec, I think I may have some zap-a-dap-a-goo II if thats what your referring to. I'll give that a shot. Has anyone inquired about extra canopies or cowls for these planes? I think I may have to order one of each just to keep as a spare just incase. Especially if I ever decide to sell the plane the new owner would likely put a different engine in it requiring a new cowl.

And hey Bryant330L, if your still following this thread tell Ben that I finally flew the Zivko Sledge yesterday and all I can say is WOW. That Sledge flies better than my Bud Sledge.....simply incredible. If it flew for him like it flies for me then I just cant understand what there was not to like. If you guys can make it down for our Cruisade for Childeren Airshow on June 12th and 13th I'll give you a little show with it. Theres going to be alot of BIG name pilots at the show too. Hope you guys can make it. And I really hope you guys plan on making the Pro-Bro in New Albany the following weekend.

Spinner: The Crusade show is 5-6 June, not 12-13. [sm=biggrin.gif]

Jon

BTW, my prop cuts on my hand don't look as bad today as they did with dirty hands yesterday...and they have closed up, stopped bleeding.

Thanks for your input on my TC yesterday.

My bad on the Cruisade dates....Dohhhh. Well Im glad to hear your cuts arent that bad. And sorry about the bent gear on the TC. Did you ever get the motor straightened out completely? And what did you think after the increased aileron roll rate?

Tailspnr,

Thats the stuff. Zappa Dappa Goo II. The canopy on the Cap - X fits well so just a thin bead on the painted area of the canopy and tape it firmly in place until the "goo" is completely set up. I also use that stuff to hold wheel pants, blind nuts, all kinds of stuff in place. It stays somewhat flexible but sets up very hard and parts joined together with it don't come apart

Thanks cstsvec.......thats what I'll do. Im just glad I caught it before I completely destroyed the canopy. Another minute or two in the air and Im sure it would have self destructed.

Scott, Looks like we will strike out on both those dates... We are going to the internet fly in on the 5-6 and going to the xfc the weekend after that. We can get together on another weekend, we can come down or you could come up here.

Glad you like the Sledge. It seems Ben and myself have a very different opinion about that plane than everybody else... To each his own. Now the OMP's... they are real flyers!

Yeah I know. Everyone has their own opinion. Ive flown the OMP Edge and it does fly really nice. It has some different characteristics than the Sledge fpr sure. But I really prefer the Sledge to be honest.

Well sorry you guys cant make either event. We do need to get together and fly the Cap-X's and compare notes though. Maybe in the next few weekends.
