If you are modifying the engine mount, for a gasser, I woulden't get too carried away, an inch or so is plenty. If you are using the stock engine box, you had better re-glue all of the joints. The three I have inspected have been awful, and just fell apart. But that is easy enough to fix with some triangle stock and epoxy.
Where is everyone ballancing this plane, 3-3.5in aft from the leading edge of the tip??? or more??

O.k. Trying to install the flight pack, got to the elevator servos and, woops! not enough room for the two servos, was I supposed to get low profile servos or will building up the mounting area be good enough.

Flew mine for the first time today:
I must say it was almost worth the hassle of dealing with chief and redoing the firewall to get this plane. An incredible design.
I wouldn’t recommend using the CA hinges. I ripped two of the aileron hinges today in a wall. This thing performs incredibly through post stall maneuvers (parachutes, harriers, walls). Walls like you just know the wing is going to break.
Does get a little touchy in pitch through stall you really have to fight the tendency to start a P.I.O.. Only had one wicked snap, and that was while holding full high rate elevator when I added both aileron and rudder at the same time, I got a little more response than I was looking for. I easily powered out of the situation with the DL-50.
DL-50 on this plane is amazing. You truly hover at 1/4 throttle. I have quite a bit of differential in my ailerons and it seems to roll very well, even with two broken hinges. I just can’t get over how well this thing harriers. Hopefully I can finish my homework early tomorrow so I can go play, but this time with robarts on the ailerons.
CG is at about 3.25 and it is perfect, absolutely perfect.

I am at the point of setting my throws and Chip says the elevator on high rate should be set at 2.625" up/down. Can someone let me know what that equates to in degrees? Just wondering if that happens to be 45 degrees or what. I have a CRC throw meter and like the accuracy of that as opposed to inches.

It is measured from the leading edge of the counterbalance so you can get it pretty accurate. I found his recommendations to be spot on.
On a sadder note:
I lost mine not long after my last post. I was on a down line, pcm lock out, and Wham... I am expecting a very large Cap-X tree to grow in the location that I planted mine. (Airplanes, even the Cap-X, don't make very good shovels, It seems they keep breaking as soon as they hit the ground.)
Insult to injury?
Chief finally sent me my canopy about a week after that!!![:@]

well, looks like this thread is getting started up again. my parents bought this plane for me for christmas 05', as you all know the instruction manual was online only, so i downloaded it, but didnt want to waste ink on 67 some odd pages, anyway, i somehow deleted it and i can't find it online, just wondering if someone out there still had it on their computer and could e-mail it to me.
how many planes were built before going to the Burst pattern?, because mine has Breitling graphics. i got it through my friend's hobby shop, who is a friend of chip hyde.

Hi Guys,
Just maidened my CAP-X, what a great flying airplane!! I've found no CAP vices yet and I am still amazed at the sensitivity of the elevator OMG!! [>:]
One comment though, it pulls to the canopy during knife edge flight, needed a fair amount of elevator to correct (on low rates), is this because of the Diehedral?? Anyone else experienced this?
The moki 2.10 is toooooooo much....maybe a 1.80 or even 1.35 would be ideal, as it hovers at 1/3 throttle with this engine.
Regards

Well My Cap saw its last flight, after over a year and who knows how many flights. She came apart doing a terminator. I sure enjoyed that plane and now it seems they are all gone. Anyone know where to get one now that Chip is out of business?

Anyone know what size the wing bolts are? I would prefer to change them out to something hex head if possible.

ill check for you later on when I get to mine later today

I just swapped out the 160fx for the YS140. Too much trouble with the OS and the Pitts muffler and I didn't want to mess with a pump so I threw the YS on there since I had it laying around. Gonna fly it this weekend so I am excited! Had a spare new cowl that I had installed as well. Got a new front end on it so im excited!

I picked one up from cheif but I think that he only had one or two left.
Missing a few items but had the important ones Landing gear and engine mounts.
The YS140 is a great engine on this airplane.

I think I have some landing gear laying around here somewhere from my crash, and you can buy a dubro ajustable engine mount that will fit right in. I also have a cowl and pants for the burst scheme. It really is a very good plane.
You could also consider a GP Cap 1.60. It comes WITH hardware. Very similar aircraft. That's what I'm working on right now.

Has anyone tried an MVVS 215 (35cc) gasser in the Cap X as I have just got one fitted with the Satio 180 and would prefer to go petrol.

I have a similar question. I want to pull off the YS 140 on there in favor of a small gasser but cant decide what to get . 26cc? 40cc? 50cc?
With that said, who here is still flying their CAP-X? I am

Still flying mine as well although I am not very happy with the current set up. I'm running a Saito 220 with a 24oz fuel tank. Its way to heavy!!! It feels like i'm flying a rock. I am considering downsizing to a saito 180 with an 18oz tank. A 180 still has ample power for this plane. I need to lower the wing load. Carbon fiber landing gear would help too. As far as going gas for this plane in my opinion you will have to sacrafice to much weight to get the power needed. I guess it would be OK for basic flying, but, for any kind of aerobatics to heavy. If you want to go gas get into a 50cc class plane with 85"+/- wing span

Well with the 180 on mine it needs loads of lead, I don't think the 215 MVVS will be any heaver, I will fly it with the Saito first to see how I like it will start with a 16X8 prop.
