Well, no Edge this week
. VF said it should arrive this past Wednesday...guess they are pretty backed up. Oh well, patience, patience. I did get my G3 sim today though so at least I got something to occupy me on this rainy weekend!

Just got an email from John at VF. Says the Edge just cleared customs and should be delivered on Tuesday via USPS. Sent me the tracking number to verify. You gotta love these folks! The last I emailed them was the week before last when they said it would get here this past Wednesday, since then I've been patiently waiting for it to arrive and haven't bothered VF with any more questions. I figured I'd leave them to fill boxes with airplanes. Very rare for a company to initiate a contact like that...I think I'm gonna like these guys

bunnman, Yeah VF is what everyone says they are. And those guys constantly monitor this thread and RC universe for feedback. For example, i believe one page ago i said that I totally screwed up the cowl when cutting it. The next day i get an email from John saying there is another cowl on the way. That is just totally awsome.

Well lets wake this thread up again by a question I have and or suggestion. Well first if you didn't know I was off was to mount my saito inverted and redo a couple of things.
(descriptions in order of attached pictures) Couldn't put the pictures in the post themself as I was having troubles with yahoo briefcase
-- Got the mount secured with a 2 degree thrust plate from earnt
-- As you can see the carb is much lower on the firewall so I would have to mount my fuel tank lower. (Gosh the saito looks pretty)
-- I reconstructed my orginal try that hold my reciever and throttle servo. I had the RX facing up but it ended up interfering with the wing joiners. So placed it on the bottom which then hides all the servo wires. For the time im going to screw the plate into the two fuse sides so I still remove it when needed.
-- Well this isn't that good of an angle but trying to show the relationship of the carb to the fuel tank (black line on tank is mid-tank)
The one thing im having issues is a logical way to mount the tank. I tryed contstructing a fuel tank mount out of lite ply and balsa but ended up not working. Tryed stuffing it with foam but couln't get the tank low enough to resist the syphon effect.
Any suggestions?

rcfury,
I'm not familiar with the intake runner on the Saito but is it possible to shorten the runner a bit to raise the carb and aleviate your tank level problem?
Everybody,
Guess what was on the door step when I got home from work this afternoon? Yep....unpacked the box and began on the wing joiners. Got the first piece that has to be laminated together chucked in the vise setting up while we head out for church tonight. Looks like I'll be up a while when I get back home
. Maybe I should stop by the beer store on the way and get some chilly ones to help get me through the late night build session...yeah, that's it!

Bunnman: Well i appreciate the help but, unfortunatly the whole intake runner is bolted to the block. If i shorten the runner and raise the carb, then the carb wont be secured anywhere.
kurt: yes in deed ive been busy but, i wish i had more time to work on it. At the time i can probally get a couple hours a week to do anything. Any suggestions on my fuel tank issue?

Any suggestions on my fuel tank issue?
After he landed we noticed the vent tube had come off the muffler. Run it slightly on the fat side and you'll never notice it.
Lay a flat slender piece of foam on the bottom of the tank and stuff the top and sides. That will get the tank close at least.
Bunnman,,,, don't stay up too late now dude. hehehehe "evil laugh" "evil laugh"

Didn't get a ton done tonight but it feels good to finally have my fingers in this thing instead of reading about getting into it in this thread
. Got the right side joiners glued to the center section joiners when I got home from church. While the 30 min. epoxy was setting up I decided to try my hand at canopy tinting. It was a bit of a mess but turned out rather well. I was hoping for a real dark tint but ran a little short on patience so now I have a realistic looking tint. Guess I'll have to put a pilot figure in there after all!
A while back somebody posted something about scaling down a picture of a full scale Edge dash board and printing it out to glue on the dash of the model. Could I get a hold of that pic by any chance???
Also, have any of you guys sprayed any clear over this model? I am planning on some vinyl lettering and some gold pinstriping everywhere the white meets the red. I picked up some Top Flite Lustrecoat clear to shoot over it when I get it all on there to shine it up and seal down the edges of the added stick on trim, anybody tried it?
Oh, one more thing, I thought the firewall would be pre-drilled to accept an inverted engine mount but it isn't. Do I just simply rotate the mount around the diameter of the existing side mount holes to mount inverted if I stick with the stock motor mount or do I need to totally re-position the thing?
Thanks and God bless,
-BunnMan

The propshaft is always centered on the thrust line.
Since the motor mount is round, just trace its shape onto the firewall with a pencil and rotate the mount within the circle. When it is inverted you may have to shift the mount a little so the crankshaft is centered in the cowl. When you are all ready punch out the existing blind nuts and epoxy in some dowl rods to fill the holes. Then redrill and mount the blind nuts in the new holes.
I just had to do that when i mounted my engine inverted.

Mark your current thrust line onto your firewall. As you rotate the engine from upright to side-mount, to inverted....the thrust line of the engine stays the same.

I've forgotten which VF Club member this belongs to but it's a good shot of an inverted Dave Brown mount. Might help ya.
Also,, here's the Zivko Edge540 living room and a close up I already resized for printing. Just print the panel on good quality sticky or decal sheet,, cut out and place inside the can of peas.

Yeah sorry for the confusion...
I kind of meant to mark the current position of the motor to get a referance point. It was a very late night doing my term paper, brain was kinda not working correctly...

I see by VF website they will be closing on Nov. 20th for a period of time. Sounds like they're coming out with something new. Anyone have any ideas what that might be? Should have my 66" 300 up yet this fall!!!!!!!!!! Can wait to fly her.

Thanks for the pics bro! The engine mount redo looks easy enough. Made me kinda nervous when I rotated it over and it was so close to the top of the fuse like that, it just didn't look right. Guess that's the way it'll go though. Sure appreciate your help.
Hopefully I'll get back to work on it tonight. Got a pretty full dance card but might get through it by 9:30 or so.

Bunman: So your going to mount your motor inverted? My mount does sit very high but, everything seems to work fine. Maybe if i have time this weekend I can finish this project up.
sweetlou: I just double checked VF's website. Yeah i wonder what is up. They do claim that there trying to send shipments out faster etc. Probably there moving into a bigger facility to accommodate all the EDGE 540's they need to build.

rcfury,
Yep inverted motor for me. I like the clean look. I keep doubting as to whether this TT .91 will be enough for this model though. I can always swap in a bigger powerplant later I guess. Maybe I should order up another cowl in case (when) I decide to go that route.
Got the joiners ready to glue in. Gonna get into that when I have some wide eyed time to spend on it. Seems I got blessed by not having to do much sanding to get the joiners to seat inside the wing panels. Just ran them in and out a number of times each until the would seat deep enough then did a dry fit in the fuse...WOW!! glad I did that! Goin by the measurement I would have been about 1/16" too tight in the wing panels and would have had to take a carpenter's clamp to the airfield with me to pull the fuse together everytime I put the wings on! Anyway I'm going to allow the 1/16" before gluing. Just nervous about the epoxy getting everywhere now. Should I wax the wood on the left panel joiner so that it doesn't get glued to the center section while the epoxy sets up???
Thanks and God bless,

I email VF yesterday about closing...
My email:
Hello Chuck:
I see you are closing temporarily starting Nov. 20th. Do you know when you will be back? Are you closing because of the winter months?? Hopefully, you guys will back!!!
Chuck at VF response:
Thanks John:
Yes we are closing, for now at least! It is a great time for consumers though as ARF prices have really come down over the last few years. Hopefully some key economic conditions will change, we are looking forward to a situation when we can make a comeback.
It has been a pleasure serving our customers and we are very grateful to all for their support.
Great Flying!
Chuck

I am hoping they will come back. It will be a shame if not.

Wow, so its economic reasons. So its more of an "out of business" type thing instead of a temporary close with hopes they can start back up again at some point?
