For anyone who is using a DA-50 with the 3 inch standoffs from aerografix, what size holes/thread did you order them with? I may be ordering the engine soon and will need to get the standoffs.

I needed 1 1/4 inch standoffs and had Roger give me 1/4X20 on the firewall side and 10X32 on the mount side. I should have had him thread the whole thing at the 10X32 because of the shortness of the standoff and used the entire threaded area for the 10X32. Having him thread in both directions only gave me 3/4" bite for both bolts. I don't have a DA but you need to find out what size hole is in the motor mount and I would suggest you use that size for the motor/mount size (probably 10 mm but I'm not sure) and go with the 1/4X20 on the fire wall side.
For all you guys out there, this is only my opinion and suggestion. I CAN be wrong but based on my experience with Roger's standoffs, this is what I would do.
I hope this helps.

From the spec sheet on the DA 50 it's 3.751 inches from the drive washer to the mounting holes. Since you need 7 inches of clearance for the cowl; 7.000 minus 3.751 leaves according to my math 3.249 or 3-1/4 inch standoffs. I would imagine 1/4-20 threads would be right. To be sure ask Roger for a recommendation. I'm sure he has machined standoffs for the DA 50 and the Patty.

So you pretty much need to know what you want before contacting Roger. I can understand his point though. If he made recommendations on any dimension and it was wrong, he'd have to eat the error and make more.

I could swear the earlier posts said people were using 3" with the DA-50 on the Patty, guess I will go back and look through 3900 posts! I don't recall seeing the thread sizes though.

Anybody hear anything on the new BME 55 Extreme. Last year the new engine was to be ready the first of 2003. The year is half over and still no Extreme. What gives?

I got 3" standoffs from Roger. I think that we used 1/4-20 for the firewall side and I am not really sure of the motor side. I do know that DA uses metric for all of their bolts, so I would guess #5 or larger.
Hope this helps. Watch the muffler screws they keep backing out on mine.

Yeah, I e-mailed Keith and got this response on June 16;
Its still a ways out. We have to work off over 400 backorders for the 110 then we hope to start shipping 55's.

3" is also about what everybody wants but that is up to you guys.
As far as strenght, if you look at my own 33% with the ZDZ 80, I use 3 3/8" long standoffs with 10*32 at both ends and its in its 3rd year with no problems in sight.
Hope this helps.

Whew!! I just finished reading this humongus thread and I took the plunge... I have a Patty and a DA 50 coming from RC Superstore.com - they gave me a great price and are shipping both for free!! The only thing I did'nt get was a muffler, I called DA to see if anyone was working on a Pitts style that would'nt rob any power from the motor and they are'nt aware of anyone working on anything... they also said that the Slimline or the Bisson (with the ends cut) are quieter than their straight can and that I probably would never notice or need that extra 300 rpm on the Patty...I Cant wait to get this baby - Guess I'll help keep this thread goin for a while longer....

Tell me about it! Good info though - gonna get hold of aerographics for some standoffs, upgrade to Robart hinges, I also liked the fuel tank mod... lots of good stuff!

A friend of mine is shopping around for the combo you bought from RC Superstore. The Patty with the DA 50. If you don't mind what price did you pay for the combo with free shipping. If you don't want to put it on the thread just email me the purchase price. Thanks, Russ

When you order the DA 50 order the long standoffs from them as well. I have the DA 50 in my PW and I got the standoffs from them. My engines back plate is not 7" it is 6.5". I put the rudder servo inside the plane with pull pull. Gas tank on the wing tube.
2-1300mah Powerflite batteries below wing tube. Plane balances great. Plane flies great as well.

I got mine this evening from tower, looks great. It is a bit smaller than I imagined it would be which has me a Little bit worried about slow speed handling with my Brison 3.2, hopefully it carries its self good for its size tho.

Walton,
I have the same combo as you and my friend remarked he was worried when he saw how slow I was flying yet, it never even hinted at dropping a wing.
Today I laterally balanced after realizing that the lousy loops were not all me. 1-1/2 ounces opposite the side muffler and all of the sudden my loops look really good.

Walton,
1-3/4" standoffs with 1/4-20 on both sides from Roger. They look and work great. I recommend the red!
With Hitec 605's on the elevator and one 645 on the rudder in the stock location. 2700 6volt at the rear of the canopy and receiver and throttle servo on the servo tray and tank mounted on the wing tube I am 1/8" in front of the center of the wing tube.
I need the least amount of down elevator to maintain inverted flight and have 9/16" throw on low rates elevator for a fairly tight loop with no hint of snapping. Stalls are straight ahead and that was before I laterally balanced her.
Let us know how yours comes out.

I wish I new what she weighs but my postal scale only goes to 5 lbs. If I was forced to guess I'd say 16.5 but as slow as she flys with no bad habits who cares. Climbs vertical forever at 1/2 throttle with a Menz 22x8S or NX 21x8 and stops on a dime with those props. I say don't bother with the 22x10 Meishlik(sp.?)
Blue anodized? I'm sorry, I have the newer polished version so the red matches the color of the plane.

Walton, did your Patty from Tower come with the fiberglass wing tube? Did anybody who received their Patty in the last month or two receive cardboard wing tubes. I was wondering if this is still an issue. Also, have they solved the problem with the red canopy paint not matching the fuselage red Monokote?
Still raining in sunny Florida and getting cabin fever. Now the forecast says will see the sun maybe on Monday, if we all don't float away by then.

Sorry for asking more of what are probably silly questions, but I'll probably be doing it for a while as I build my Patty over the next few weeks/months since this is my first gasser, and first model above .60 glow size!
Regarding the throttle and choke servos -- after reading many posts on this and other threads I have decided I'd like the choke to be controlled by a servo. Since the throttle and choke are both on the same side of the engine (obviously), but there is only one servo mounting place in the servo tray on the right hand side of the plane, does anybody have any ideas how I can mount my throttle and choke servos next to each other in a way that does not look "rigged", whilst maintaining the straightest possible shot for the pushrods. I plan on mounting the fuel tank above the CG if this makes any difference. I think I saw posts of pictures on this thread with two servos up high on the right of the plane, but I can't find them again.
Also the ch-ignitions module that came with my engine does not have a connector on the battry power input line. Do I use a regular RX pack to power this thing, and if so do I need to solder a regular female connector onto the end of this wire like what my regular RX battery would normally plug into? If so, where can I get these? Also, is a regular RX type slide switch good enough for turning this circuit on/off. I'm not quite decided but I may also use an optical kill switch in addition (I'm a paranoid kind of guy!).
Thanks in advance,
Martin.
